Story
Teddy is a sweet 13 year 9 months old Shih tzu that weighs 16 lbs. The poor boy had a owner for 10 years until she had to go into a nursing home then he moved to another apartment in the same building for 2 years until that new mom got sick and could no longer take care of him. We didn't know if he would be happy in a foster home because of all the dogs there but he fits right in and has been amazing. He has found his spot to sleep in his dog bed and seems to love the hectic household. It took him a couple weeks to want to jump up and sit in the lounge chair but that's his favorite place to be. Teddy has been recently diagnosed with small kidney stones so he has been put on a special dry dog food diet. The vet seems to think the new diet will clear up his stones. You would never know that Teddy is 13+. He gets the zoomies and just runs around the house. Teddy would love to have a final home where he can be loved on and treated like the special boy that he is. If you would like to be that person please apply at gfrpets.org/apply/adoptdog/. Teddy's adoption fee is $300. He has been neutered, microchipped, current on core vaccines, and on heartworm and flea prevention. ##2048021##

Story
All Pet Central animals are up to date on age-appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, microchipped (registration included), and current on parasite prevention. Dogs over six-months of age are heartworm tested. When adopting, we will ensure that you receive copies of veterinary and microchip records. Records are sent via email. Paper versions are available upon request. If you are interested in this pet, please fill out the brief Adopter Survey by hitting "Apply for Adoption" on the profile above. After we review your completed survey, we will contact you by phone or email within three business days. Please note- Out of respect for our volunteers and staff, we are closed on Sunday and Monday and will not be processing any applications on those days. Please get back to us right away when we call or email regarding an application so that we can quickly connect using the process below: Select a pet and submit an online adoption survey. A PCH! adoption counselor will contact potential adopters within three business days (PCH! cannot guarantee any pet's availability, but we make every effort to accommodate adopters with a reply and possible alternative suggestions). An adoption counselor and client will then have a conversation to answer questions, discuss any medical needs for the pet and determine the suitability of a match (if necessary, we may opt to put adopters in touch with foster parents). After a match is made, clients will be asked to sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee online through our secure payment system *Please see our modified no-risk return policy. (below) The PCH! adoption counselor will then set up a specific appointment time and location. Adopters should bring a pet carrier and/or a leash to pick up and their ID. Adult pets will be wearing a collar. It is important that clients arrive on time, neither early nor late. Cats and kittens are required to leave in a pet carrier. If your adoption is scheduled at Pet Central Helps!: Upon arrival inside the Crossroads Center complex (360 Wylie Drive), look for the black Pet Central Helps! semi-trailer, which is right outside of our facility (Suite 720). Park in the parking lot and enter the facility. A PCH! representative will greet you and show you to the adoption room. Your new pet will be handed to you. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at PetSmart – Bloomington, IL: Park in the PetSmart (1606 E. Empire St.) Parking lot and enter the store. We will be set up just inside the store entrance. Let us know you are here to pick up your pet! A PCH! representative will confirm your information and hand you your pet. We will take a "Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. If your adoption is scheduled at the Cat’s Meow Cafe: Navigate to PetSmart, park in the parking lot and enter the store. Locate a PCH! Representative at our adoption table and let them know you are picking up a Cat Cafe Cat. You will sign your final contract with your counselor and snap a picture of the completed screen. Head to the Cat’s Meow Cafe at 507 N. Hershey Rd and provide them with the snapshot of your final contract. They will get your cat and take a “Happy Adoption Day” photo with your pet and family. PCH! supports a 30-day no-fault return policy in which adopters are given the opportunity to find a better match. If we cannot provide advice/tools to keep a pet in the home we offer these options: Exchange for a pet that may be a better match** Receive a refund minus a $40 processing fee** With this approach, we can often turn mismatches into opportunities! Thank you, Pet Central Helps!

Story
Meet Benji, a 16-year-old Shih Tzu mix who weighs about 13 pounds and is equal parts gentle soul and devoted sidekick. He’s a friendly, outgoing, and adaptable little guy who finds his greatest joy in being close to his person. Whether he’s following you from room to room, curling up beside you for a nap, or soaking up all the pets you’re willing to give, Benji is happiest when he’s near his people. He enjoys short walks and spending time outside, though he prefers to keep things brief when the weather is too hot or too cold. He does well in his crate but has also earned the privilege of sleeping loose in the home. Benji does wear a belly band to help prevent marking indoors. He has done well with everyone he’s met, though he hasn’t been around children in our care. Benji also enjoys car rides and would make a wonderful companion for someone looking for a loving, low-key buddy. Benji shares a special bond with his brother, Clark, and the two are looking for a home where they can stay together. Their connection is heartwarming, and they truly thrive with each other by their side. Benji brings a calm, cuddly presence, while Clark adds a bit of playful energy to the mix. Their combined adoption fee is $300, plus a $15 rabies transfer fee for McLean County residents. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Story
Midge is a 2-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing in at a petite 12 pounds, and she’s packed with personality. This energetic, funny little lady is always ready to brighten your day with her playful spirit and charming antics. One look at her adorable underbite smile and you’ll quickly see why she leaves such an impression. Midge is incredibly people-oriented and happiest when she’s close to her humans. She’ll happily follow you from room to room, curl up on your lap, or even snooze on your leg, complete with soft little snores. She loves squeaky toys and can get delightfully wound up during playtime, especially after being outside. Once back inside, she may zoom around a bit before settling. She’s making progress with house training and tolerates the crate, though she’d much rather be out and near her people. Midge can experience some separation anxiety when left alone and would do best in a home where she gets plenty of companionship and activity throughout the day. Because she can be vocal, she’ll need a home without shared walls.  Midge is very friendly with people and does well with small dogs, but she’ll need guidance and patience when it comes to interacting with larger dogs. She hasn’t been exposed to children yet, so slow and respectful introductions would be important. This playful, affectionate girl is looking for a home that understands her need for connection, can help her continue building confidence, and will love her big personality in a small, adorable package. Her minimum adoption fee is $300 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Story
Meet Hoppy, a 13-year-old Shih Tzu mix weighing 18 pounds, and proof that age is just a number. This happy little gentleman still has plenty of pep in his step, a toy basket full of interests, and a heart overflowing with love. Hoppy is the kind of dog who quickly becomes your shadow. He loves being near his people, whether he's following you from room to room, supervising household activities, or curling up nearby for a well-earned nap. While he's certainly mastered the art of relaxation, he's not ready to retire from fun anytime soon. Hoppy enjoys playing with toys, showing off his fetch skills, practicing his tricks, exploring the yard, and going for walks. Once he sheds a few extra pounds and cooler weather arrives, he'll likely be ready for even more adventures. This smart, food-motivated boy already knows sit, stay, come, down, and drop it. He's house trained, walks nicely on leash, and loves opportunities to learn. His foster family describes him as friendly, outgoing, loyal, and incredibly sweet. He's also surprisingly quiet, typically only barking to alert you when someone is at the door or when a loud thunderstorm rolls through. Hoppy thrives on consistency and settles in best when given time to learn a new routine. Like many dogs experiencing change, he can be a little anxious when left alone at first, but he's already making great progress in foster care as his confidence grows. He prefers the freedom to roam the house and isn't a fan of being confined in a crate. While Hoppy hasn't been formally tested with other dogs in our care, he has remained calm and polite during encounters with dogs on walks. His foster family believes he may enjoy having a canine companion around, especially when his people are away. He has not been exposed to children, but his gentle, mellow nature suggests he may do well with respectful older kids who understand that sometimes a senior guy would rather relax than play.  If you're looking for a loyal best friend who wants nothing more than to love his people, play a little fetch, earn a few treats, and spend his golden years by your side, Hoppy may be the perfect match. His foster family describes him as "the bestest boy," and after spending time with him, it's easy to see why. His minimum adoption fee is $200 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives. Story
**Meet Colt – The Tiny VIP You Didn’t Know You Needed** At just 5.5 pounds, Colt may be small, but he has fully mastered the art of getting carried around like royalty. This 5-year-old Yorkshire Terrier/Shih Tzu mix is happiest tucked into someone’s arms, curled up in a warm bed, or supervising daily activities from the comfort of a lap. Colt has been through a lot recently. When he arrived, he was dealing with a painful double ear infection and needed 9 teeth removed. Despite not feeling his best, he’s remained incredibly sweet and affectionate with the people caring for him. These days, he’s soaking up all the love, soft blankets, and pampering he can get—and honestly, he deserves every bit of it. He’s still polishing up his house-training skills, and his foster family uses a belly band to help prevent marking indoors. Crates aren’t really Colt’s style. He much prefers sleeping cozied up in bed with his foster parents, where he can be close to his people all night long. Colt enjoys being the center of attention and may grumble a little if another dog interrupts his cuddle time, but it’s hard to blame him when snuggles are his favorite hobby. He hasn’t been around kids or cats in our care yet. This little guy also isn’t much of an outdoorsman. Leashes are confusing, grass is suspicious, and he would much rather be carried than go for a hike. Because he can be uncertain in unfamiliar situations, a securely fenced yard is required to keep him safe. His foster mom says if she didn’t already have dogs of her own, she’d keep him in a heartbeat—and it’s easy to see why. Colt is the kind of dog who bonds deeply, loves fiercely, and wants nothing more than to spend his days being adored by his favorite human. Colt is Heartworm positive and has started treatment. We are looking for an adopter within 1 hour of Bloomington-Normal so that treatment can be continued through our veternarian. His minimum adoption fee is $400 plus a $15 fee, if 4 months or older, for rabies registration for McLean County residents. He has been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, heartworm checked, dewormed, and is on flea and heartworm preventatives.
