Story
Meet Jax! (15lbs, Born Aug 2023) Jax is a playful, social bundle of energy who loves everyone—dogs and humans alike! This affectionate boy is neutered, UTD on vaccines, and puppy-pad trained. He’s a "foodie" who loves homemade meals and peanut butter treats. Jax’s Special Need: Jax is a happy, stable boy with idiopathic epilepsy. This is easily managed with a consistent medication routine every 8 and 12 hours. It costs only ~$30/mo! Because consistency is key to his health, he needs a dedicated, routine-oriented owner (perfect for someone who works from home or is retired). Why Jax? Jax doesn’t let his condition slow him down. He’s a brave, endearing companion who just needs a partner to help him stay on track. In return, he’ll give you a lifetime of loyalty and world-class cuddles. If you have a predictable schedule and a big heart, Jax is your boy!

Story
applications at leiashope.org Located in Decatur, IL Carolina Red is a sweet little Shih Tzu weighing around 10 pounds, and her constantly wagging tail tells you everything you need to know about her happy spirit. She absolutely loves attention and is very affectionate with her foster mom. At bedtime, she prefers to sleep right next to her and will make sure to get up close—sometimes nose-to-nose—to collect a proper round of love and pets before drifting off. Carolina is great with other dogs and enjoys both quiet companionship and playful fun. She’s often found curled up beside another dog in a shared dog bed, but she also loves to play, chase, and roll around on the floor with her canine friends. She’s been good with kids and enjoys being part of a lively, loving household. She rides fairly well in the car, though she does get a bit anxious and prefers to sit in your lap for reassurance. Carolina came from a puppy mill, though you would hardly know it—until a man starts to speak, at which point she becomes anxious. We do believe this is something she can work through with time, patience, and positive experiences, but it’s important for adopters to be aware of. Carolina does not know how to walk on a leash, so a secure physical fenced yard is required. She will also need frequent brushing and professional grooming every 6 weeks to keep her coat healthy and comfortable. Carolina’s adoption fee is $400. She is spayed, microchipped, and current on vaccines. She is located in Decatur, IL. Applications can be found at leiashope.org. We are a foster-based, volunteer-run rescue. Please allow 7–10 business days for applications to be processed. An approved application is required before meet and greets. All family members must be present, and adopters must travel to Decatur to meet and adopt—no transportation is provided. Carolina is a young lady with many wonderful years ahead of her and is looking for a family ready to commit to her lifetime of love, estimated at 12+ years.

Story
We have had Kelce since a pup. She is a good dog. She does not like other dogs very much but it has gotten much better as she has gotten older. She would not do well is a super active dog but a slower paced dog would probably work but no guarantees. She is allergic to some dry foods. We have started making her food but if you can find a food without chicken meal that would probably work. She gets a beef, rice and veggie concoction made in a crock pot currently. We are moving soon and we cannot take her with us. She is 11 years old. She loves to be petted and is not a lap dog but will lay next to you. She only barks briefly at strangers in your house and if there is somebody at the door. We do not cage her currently but we have in the past if needed. She will come with cage everything needed and we can provide a few weeks of food to help her transition. She is pretty good with kids but I think a slower home would be best. Looking to home her somewhere between the dates of Feb 12-18
