Romeo also has dry eye and will need daily eye drops long-term to keep him comfortable. This sweet boy enjoys walks, making friends with calm dogs, and sharing quality cuddle time. Once he's had his exercise, Romeo's ideal afternoon involves lounging on the couch next to his favorite human. Romeo needs a patient adopter who understands that building trust takes time. He requires a muzzle for applying topical medications until a bond of trust is established. With consistent, gentle care, Romeo will flourish into the loving companion he's meant to be. Taleis Second Chapter Dont we all deserve a second chapter? Lets make Taleis one for the books. Talei is a sweet, shy, and mellow 8-year-old Shih Tzu with a beautiful black, grey, and white coat. After coming from a puppy mill closure, this tiny girl has made huge progress and is discovering the joys of comfort, companionship, and life at her own pace. Talei is a good eater, sleeps happily on her dog bed, and is learning all about the routines of a loving home. She is picking up stairs, crate time for meals, car rides etc. She prefers to do things independently, but once she realizes there is nothing to fear, she is happy to follow along. She may still be nervous about being carried and close handling, though she relaxes more quickly each time. Talei loves other dogs and would do best in a home with a confident canine companion. She is good with other animals and has walked well alongside dogs, although solo walks are not yet her favourite activity. She is beginning to explore the house, follows her people from room to room, and will come when called for outings. She is still learning to ask for bathroom breaks, so her family will need to watch for pacing. Although she is small, Talei is a guard dog at heart. Unfamiliar noises may inspire her to march off and announce that the situation is being handled. For this reason, apartment living would not be the best fit. She is also fearful of storms and strange sounds, and her new family should be patient, gentle, and respectful of her boundaries. Talei appears to have ongoing issues with allergies and will require Pro Otic HC twice weekly for ear maintenance. During peak allergy times, it is recommend to give her once weekly cool water baths with an oatmeal shampoo to help relieve any issues due to allergens. In the future Talei may require a hypoallergenic diet or further management to keep her comfortable. Talei is friendly with both men and women, well mannered, crate-, house (mostly)-, and leash-trained, and unbothered by distractions such as cyclists and skateboards. She is a clean slate when it comes to fancy tricks and commands, but she has already mastered something far more important: learning to trust. Meet Benji — a tiny, amazing little dog who sees with his heart and loves with his whole soul. Benji may not see with his eyes, but he has no trouble finding his way into your heart. This wonderful 18-month-old Shih Tzu mix weighs just 10 pounds, but his personality, courage, and sweetness are so much bigger than his size. He is truly amazing — gentle, loving, resilient, and full of quiet confidence. Benji lost his eyes due to an untreated disease before coming into care, but those painful days are behind him now. He has received veterinary treatment and is healthy, neutered, and microchipped, and he is ready for the beautiful life he always deserved. Benji does great in his foster home and gets along just wonderfully with everyone around him. He is good with other dogs, good with cats, and has a sweet, easygoing nature that makes him a joy to be near. Because he is small and blind, he would do best with children over age 8 who understand how to be careful, gentle, and respectful around him. He does not need pity — he simply needs kindness, patience, and people who see what we see: a happy, loving little companion who is already wonderful exactly as he is. One of the most special things about Benji is how beautifully he connects with his people. He will learn the sound of your voice, the rhythm of your steps, and the comfort of your presence. He is the kind of dog who wants to be included, whether that means heading out for a little adventure, exploring a safe yard, going for a gentle walk, or simply curling up nearby while you relax. April is a 3-4 year old Shih Tzu weighing 12 pounds. She came to us as a puppy mill survivor and is ready for the next and final journey in her quest for a forever home. April came into the rescue with a huge bladder stone causing her an immense amount of pain and discomfort. The rescue got her in to see a vet immediately and surgery was performed to remove the stone and spay her at the same time. She recovered and has transformed into a very energetic and affectionate companion. Although she can still be a bit skittish and run away from her foster mom, you can tell that she wants to trust. Her tail is always wagging. While in foster care April has gradually learned how to walk on leash and now enjoys short walks. Her housetraining needs on going support. A home with a fully fenced yard is a must. She has been introduced to a few dogs and is quite friendly towards them. Initially she was very interested in the resident cat and a bit much for them but she has acclimated to the cat and they are doing well together now. She likes to chew on her toys and doesn’t know the difference between her toys and a pair of reading glasses, so it would be advised to keep these things out of her reach. April is on a special diet to prevent stones from re-occurring and has to have drops in her eyes daily. She is pretty good at getting her eye drops put in. Many of these dogs have not yet experienced living in a home, regular interaction with people, leash walking, housetraining, or even having a name. All of these new people, environments, and activities can be scary for them and many are flight risks while they adjust. Bella is being fostered in the London area. Bella is an approximately 10-year-old, 20-pound terrier mix who has proven herself to be a pretty great little houseguest. She's affectionate, playful, funny, and ready to find a person of her own. Housetraining may be Bella's super skill. She hasn't had any accidents in foster care and will reliably head outside when she needs to go, even when it's raining. She would like it officially noted, however, that skywater is unpleasant and she should receive credit for her bravery. Bella enjoys being close to her people and settles nicely at home. At night, she sleeps in her foster human's bed, but she's no bed hog. She finds herself a comfortable corner, curls up, and sleeps soundly until morning. She's also been working on her walking skills and is a quick study. Bella is enjoying walks in quieter areas where she isn't regularly encountering other dogs, and her loose leash walking is coming along nicely. Her new person will need to continue that practice and gradually help her learn to comfortably walk past other dogs. Busy neighbourhood sidewalks and lots of close encounters aren't quite her speed yet. New people arriving at the house are very exciting and Bella's enthusiasm currently involves barking and jumping. Out in the world, people are much less exciting. She can comfortably walk past strangers and wait while people are talking. Bella has been friendly with the dogs in her foster home and enjoys having a canine playmate. We suspect she's somewhat dog selective, so she doesn't need to live with another dog, but she may enjoy sharing her home with a compatible friend. She's more of a "choose your friends" dog than a dog-park social butterfly. She loves exploring the yard, chasing squirrels, playing, and then settling in for a cozy evening. She's playful and would love someone who thinks playing in the backyard is an evening well spent. Bella would do best in a suburban or rural house, with a securely fenced yard. Apartment or condo living isn't a good fit for her, as elevators, hallways, shared entrances, and frequent close encounters with other dogs would make everyday life difficult. Bella appreciates people who pay attention to what she's communicating. In her previous home, she was reported to bite when startled while resting or handled unexpectedly. We haven't seen this behaviour in foster care, but because of that history, Bella is looking for an adult home where her signals and personal space will be respected. She has also been treated for Giardia and has since had multiple negative fecal tests. Bella isn't looking for someone who expects her to know all the rules about living with humans. She'd like a person who will keep building on what she's already learned while appreciating what she already does exceptionally well: live happily in a home, make people laugh, enjoy a good adventure, and curl up in a remarkably small portion of the bed.
