Leona is a 12+ year old Shih Tzu mix who has clearly had a difficult life, but you’d never know it from the gentle way she looks at you and the quiet determination she carries. This little lady has been through a lot, yet she still has so much love left to give. When Leona first came into rescue, she was dealing with a painful yeast infection on her skin, which has since been treated and is doing much better. Leona does have dry eye and will need eye medication twice a day, but she’s a very cooperative patient and handles it like a champ. She also has mammary tumors, but they certainly don’t slow her down. Leona still enjoys exploring the yard, feeling the sunshine on her face, and being near people who care about her. What Leona needs most now is a soft place to land—a quiet home where she can spend her golden days surrounded by kindness and comfort. Whether she has months or years ahead of her, she deserves to know what it feels like to truly be loved and cherished. Leona may be a senior, but her heart is full and ready to bond with someone special. If you have room in your home and your heart for a sweet soul who just wants peace, love, and a cozy place to rest, Leona will be forever grateful. Her adoption fee has been reduced to $150. Beautiful Niki - she loves to lay in the sunshine, patter around the house and then return to her soft bed. Niki is a 15 pound, 8 year old shih tzu mix; she is missing an eye and does have glaucoma in the other for which she takes eye drops. Her eyesight is limited but she navigates around the house no problem and she will follow you around as well. She has good house manners, working on leash training, good with other dogs that don’t get in her face too much and will most likely be good around cats. With Niki’s limited vision, small children would have to monitored around her and a fenced yard would be best as she does like to roam and explore once she’s comfortable. UPDATE 12/1/25: From his foster mom: Bo is a sweet older gentleman that would be great in a home with kids, dogs, and probably cats, too. He's just an easy dude with a sweet personality! He loves playing with his stuffed bear, jumping over me on the couch and going for walks. He's an excellent cuddler and wants to sleep behind my knees every night. He may have a bit of hearing deficit (yet to be confirmed by vet) and needs daily eye drops, but is otherwise doing great! You'd never guess he was 11 years old! HISTORY Bo came to us after his owner passed and there was no family or friends able to take him in. This 11-yr-old gentleman will get a much-needed spa day and treatment for his chronic dry eye so common in Shih-Tzus. Bo would love to have another dog friend in his forever home, as he was seen trying to make friends with several of our dogs upon intake. He walks well on leash, and we were told that he is potty-trained and potty-pad trained. Bo is understandably a bit anxious about his new situation, but his wonderful foster family (and their dog) will help him adjust to this major life change. He would do best with a family familiar with the breed and with no small children. Keep checking this page and our FB site for updates on Bo as we get him fully vetted and get to know him. ----------------------------------------------------------- WE ONLY ADOPT LOCALLY WITHIN A 2 HOUR RADIUS OF THE TRICOUNTY AREA. ***Exceptions may be made for seniors or hard to place dogs. If the animal is under the age of 3 years old or has health issues, a vet reference is required which means you must own a pet or have owned a pet in your name. Adoption fee of $365 covers all vetting including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip heartworm test and treatment if needed and any other medical that may be required while in rescue. We only do adoptions on Saturday and not all animals are able to attend so if you would like to see a specific animal please let us know so that we can make arrangements for it to be present at the event. Event locations do vary so please check the homepage to find out where we will be this week. Please do not ask us to reduce adoption fees since all fees help us to cover medical expenses for all of our animals, some of which can be very expensive.
