UPDATE 12/1/25: From his foster mom: Bo is a sweet older gentleman that would be great in a home with kids, dogs, and probably cats, too. He's just an easy dude with a sweet personality! He loves playing with his stuffed bear, jumping over me on the couch and going for walks. He's an excellent cuddler and wants to sleep behind my knees every night. He may have a bit of hearing deficit (yet to be confirmed by vet) and needs daily eye drops, but is otherwise doing great! You'd never guess he was 11 years old! HISTORY Bo came to us after his owner passed and there was no family or friends able to take him in. This 11-yr-old gentleman will get a much-needed spa day and treatment for his chronic dry eye so common in Shih-Tzus. Bo would love to have another dog friend in his forever home, as he was seen trying to make friends with several of our dogs upon intake. He walks well on leash, and we were told that he is potty-trained and potty-pad trained. Bo is understandably a bit anxious about his new situation, but his wonderful foster family (and their dog) will help him adjust to this major life change. He would do best with a family familiar with the breed and with no small children. Keep checking this page and our FB site for updates on Bo as we get him fully vetted and get to know him. ----------------------------------------------------------- WE ONLY ADOPT LOCALLY WITHIN A 2 HOUR RADIUS OF THE TRICOUNTY AREA. ***Exceptions may be made for seniors or hard to place dogs. If the animal is under the age of 3 years old or has health issues, a vet reference is required which means you must own a pet or have owned a pet in your name. Adoption fee of $ covers all vetting including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip heartworm test and treatment if needed and any other medical that may be required while in rescue. We only do adoptions on Saturday and not all animals are able to attend so if you would like to see a specific animal please let us know so that we can make arrangements for it to be present at the event. Event locations do vary so please check the homepage to find out where we will be this week. Please do not ask us to reduce adoption fees since all fees help us to cover medical expenses for all of our animals, some of which can be very expensive. Coco is a 10+ year old Shi Tzu mix who was surrendered to a shelter by her owner's family after her owner passed. Despite such a traumatic event, she has settled nicely into her foster home. She is an easy dog, housebroken and pee-pad trained. She gets along great with her doggie roommates. Because a bit of early onset doggie dementia, she prefers not to be held, but will cuddle on the couch or bed at her discretion. Coco will do best in a home with a consistent routine, regular exercise and mental stimulation. WE ONLY ADOPT LOCALLY WITHIN A 2 HOUR RADIUS OF THE TRICOUNTY AREA. ***Exceptions may be made for seniors or hard to place dogs. If the animal is under the age of 3 years old or has health issues, a vet reference is required which means you must own a pet or have owned a pet in your name. Angelica Pickles was found as a stray and brought to a local shelter where only one staff member has been able to get close to her because of her fear aggression. She allowed one shelter worker to hold and groom her a bit, and took refuge under her desk most of the time. We have no idea what traumatized a mere 10-month-old so, but we are willing to work her through it. She is in a foster home with other loving dogs who can show her that humans can be trusted, and that she does not have to live her life in fear. Angelica Pickles will need a patient, dog-savvy adopter with a quiet home, no small children and limited human visitors, at least at first! Keep checking back here or on our Facebook page for updates. She is a black Shih Tzu, about 10-12 pounds. We are not sure what has happened in Chapo's life before now. He is not a happy dog. He seems to be ok for a bit and then a trigger comes into play and he becomes cujo. We are going to continue to work with him and maybe things will change over time with us. He is cute but we need to make sure he is happy with his people before going out to a home.
