Story
Meet Bentley — Bentley is ready to steal your heart (and maybe your spot on the couch!). He’s an easygoing companion who asks for little more than a soft bed and a few head pats. His adorable quirks include sleeping with his head on a stuffy and sitting up like a little bear when he knows treats are coming. Bentley’s got a spa side—he adores jumping in the shower and getting toweled off like the prince he is. Bentley gets along nicely with other dogs, though he appreciates calm friends. He’s beautifully house trained, crate trained, and sleeps soundly wherever he chooses. He loves car rides and would benefit from a ramp to help him in and out. Coming to HHS with a hurt back, Bentley was protecting his body from painful pets. We figured out quickly Bentley needed medical intervention, and he's been resting on anti-inflammatories and making great progress. Bentley has some learned behavior from protecting his back, but quickly starts trusting once he knows you aren't going to hurt him. He has a few rules, including not being picked up so treat him like a big dog in a smaller body, and you’ll do great together! Bentley enjoys leash walks, exploring new scents, and relaxing with his people. He’s a chill guy who would thrive in an apartment, townhouse, or single-family home. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, and easy companion who will make every day a little softer and sweeter, Bentley is your boy. Adopters have 30 days of free access to 1-on-1 text and email support from trainers at Petcademy to help make every pet's transition into their new home as smooth as possible. All dogs available for adoption have been spayed/neutered, microchipped and are current on all vaccinations. Please email dogs@henricohumane.org for more

Meet Pumpkin & Ginger – Bonded Shih Tzu Sisters Seeking Their Forever Home Pumpkin (black, 9 years old) and Ginger (pewter, 8 years old) are tiny but mighty senior Shih Tzu's, each weighing around 10 lbs. These inseparable sisters are looking for a loving home where they can stay together. We welcomed Pumpkin and Ginger a few months ago after their previous owners made the difficult decision to surrender them. Both girls have chronic skin and ear issues, which are common in Shih Tzu's. Thanks to the great care from our vet and foster family, they’re doing much better—but they’ll need ongoing support to stay comfortable and healthy. Their care routine includes: • Weekly medicated baths (can be done at home). Sometimes 2x a week if there is a flare-up • Regular use of topical medicated sprays/wipes • Occasional ear cleanings • Consistent grooming and haircuts • Special diet/supplements Ginger is fairly cooperative with her care, while Pumpkin has a bit more sass—but both are sweet and affectionate. They both had recent dental work, are spayed, up to date on vaccines and preventatives, and microchipped. They’re great eaters but require a special, chicken-free diet to help manage their skin from the inside out. Their meals include variations of fish-based kibble, peas, carrots, green beans, ground beef, Greek yogurt, omega oil, and probiotics—easy to prepare and not prescription-based. These ladies love (and sometimes demand) the royal treatment: lap time, naps, gentle brushing, sunbathing, short strolls, and lounging on soft beds. They’re mostly housebroken, crate-trained, travel well in the car, show no interest in the resident kitty, get along with other calm dogs, sleep well, and can be trusted alone at home. They will do best in a patient, quiet home with limited stairs, a small fenced yard (both prefer to potty off the leash), and a regular routine. Because of their size and special needs, small children and energetic dogs may not be the best fit in their new home. The cutest thing about them is that they both have an underbite and stick their tongues out. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to two loving, low-key companions who thrive on affection and routine, Pumpkin and Ginger would love to meet you. You can fill out an application on our website www.homesfurhounds.org

Story
Gizmo and Widget are ready for their forever home! When these cute, friendly, little Shih-Tzu arrived they had been shaved down by the shelter due to a flea infestation, and they had kennel cough. So they had a rough start, but were troopers through it all. They have been nothing but sweet, friendly, lovable little snuggle bugs. They finally are feeling great, their hair is growing back and they are ready to find a home. We think Gizmo (white) is 6 and Widget (black) is 7 years old. They came in together and do LOVE to play together so we do want to keep them together. We know it won't be easy finding someone looking for two dogs, but we hope the right family is out there. They are doing very well in their foster home. Still working on potty training but making good progress. They don't pee in the house during the day and at night they are wearing belly bands but they have been dry for the last week or so. They play together and enjoy each other's company. They get along with other dogs well and walk on a leash very well. They seem to like their walks. They have also discovered toys and will take them all out of the box and play with every toy. They are neutered, UTD on shots, microchipped and negative for heartworms. We hope someone out there is willing to open their home to two sweet boys. For an application go to www.homesfurhounds.org They are located in Williamsburg, Va.

Story
🐾 Meet Biddles — A Big Personality in a Small Shih Tzu Body! 🐾 Biddles is a 1–2-year-old Shih Tzu who is ready for a fresh start and a family to call his own. This adorable fluffball came from a backyard breeder case, where he unfortunately lived outside his whole life. But despite his rough start, Biddles is eager to learn what it means to be a loved indoor dog! 💙 About Biddles: ✔ Neutered ✔ Microchipped ✔ Fully vaccinated (Rabies, Distemper, Lepto & Bordetella) ✔ Will receive his final distemper & lepto boosters on November 26th — then he’s officially ready to go home! ✔ Flea-treated & dewormed ✔ Heartworm negative ✔ On monthly flea/tick & heartworm prevention ✔ Crate trained ✔ Previous eye ulcer fully treated Because he wasn’t socialized properly in his early life, Biddles can be a bit bossy and unsure in new situations — but that’s just part of his charm! He has a huge personality packed into a tiny frame, and once he trusts you, he’ll show you his silly, spunky, and affectionate side. 🚽 Potty Training: Biddles lived outside before coming to us, so he is not potty trained yet. However, he is crate trained and will thrive with structure, patience, and positive reinforcement. He truly wants to learn — he just needs someone willing to guide him! 💛 The Home He Needs: Biddles will do best with adopters who understand that he’s still learning how to be a pet. With time, routine, and gentle guidance, he will blossom into a fantastic companion. If you have questions, we’re happy to help! 📧 adoptions@hoovesandpaws.org Ready to adopt? 🐶 Start with the application: https://new.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/HPAW/Dog
