Meet our newest rescue Bernie - a sweet and charming cat who's ready to find their forever family! Bernie was found as a stray in Cedar Rapids last fall and initially had some health concerns - primarily a concerning cough. His rescuer tried to find his family, but sadly no one claimed him. She took him to her vet and checked for a microchip, and ensured he received the medical care he needed to start feeling better while she continued to look for his family. Eventually Bernie improved, but her vet recommended some further diagnostic testing to rule out any lung or heart issues as Bernie does at times have a small lingering cough. Since she had nursed him back to health and provided all that she could afford to Bernie, in January she began reaching out to several shelters and asked for help to take him in and continue his medical journey. Due to every animal shelter being overwhelmed with cats in need of rescue and help she continued to run into dead ends - until she found Safe Haven!  In March Safe Haven was able to take Bernie into our care and start his more advanced medical care. He has now had radiographs of his lungs and heart taken, an ultrasound performed, and a specialized blood test done to look specifically at how Bernie's heart is functioning - and we have all GREAT NEWS - the veterinarian has cleared Bernie medically and he is now ready for adoption! He still occasionally has a lingering cough that may happen a couple times a day that typcially lasts fewer than  5 seconds and doesn't seem to impact him at all. Bernie is an alert, happy cat that is ready to find his family and is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He is litter box trained and ready to go home. Adoption fees are $50.00 for adult cats and $75.00 for kittens under 6 months old at the time of adoption. We have had Misu since he was 6 weeks old, we are broken on having to rehome him but we believe it’s for his best. Our household currently has 3 dogs and 2 cats (including Misu) and we just welcomed a newborn. We believe our house has become to stressful for Misu, he has been peeing sometimes outside of the cat litter box, we were advised to get him started on anxiety xxxx@xxxx.x r with a full house already, and with my husband loosing his job and a newborn, we financially are struggling. He’s a beautiful cat, with a big personality. He loves to cuddle once he knows who you are. He sometimes can be skittish to new faces. He would come with his favorite cat tree, we would love to keep in contact with whoever adopts Misu, we are asking for him to go to a good home where he is loved, that is why we are not asking for a rehome fee. Looking for s'more love and attention!Marshmallow is ready to get s'more love & attention from a new fur-ever family. She is a beautiful 3-year-old Siamese mix. Her kittens have been adopted, now to find her a loving home as well! This mama originally came from a not-so-clean house, so at first she'll need to be confined to a room with several big litter boxes for a while, and then slowly let out to roam with supervision... otherwise, she will hide to poop. She just needs time and patience to learn to only use the litter box... and positive reinforcement will be a huge help. Lotus, though a beautiful cat is very spicey. She is perfectly fine with just hanging out and being adored. Lotus needs to be in a quiet home, no small children, and someone who understands that she is NOT a cuddly, friendly cat. If you have ANY QUESTIONS or are truly interested in adopting any animal from PAW Animal Shelter PLEASE, fillout an adoption application FIRST!   WE are a high intake No Kill Shelter ran by a staff of 4 and do not always have time to answer every question asked by so many. If you are a good fit for the animal you are interested in -we will call to speak with you, If we feel you are not a good fit , we will contact you about other pets that may be a good fit for your home. Many people are losing the opportunity to adopt the animal they want because they fail to put in an application and the pet was adopted before we could answer your email. .If you have applied for an animal in our facility and have not received a response within 7 days, PLEASE call or contact us again. Though we do our best in trying to answer all emails in a timely manner, sometimes things get away from us, get lost or misplaced.
