So many kitties are taken in and tossed out to become scared of the world. We have taken in over 600 animals in 2024, and we desperately need good adopters, fosters, and sponsors to keep the doors open.  We operate solely on donations, and we are always looking for wonderful families to join our efforts. We have dozens of felines not posted and dozens more on our waiting list. No matter what type of setting you have, if you are looking to save a feline, we can find one for you to help. It typically it cost us $60-80 to fully vet a feline and $80-120 to vet a canine depending on size and health conditions and sex. Shes already had to raise babies without resources. She came to us covered in fleas, underweight, and with super sick babies. What she deserves now is to live the life of the pretty princess that she is! She’s is now playing and relaxing like she should have been able to do if she wasn’t a teenage mother. Mable lives with six male cats, three are blind. They don’t get along at all, one of my blind cats bullies her and she hides under the bed most of the time. They are all stressed. I just want her to have a good life, she loves to cuddle up next to me and wrap her arms around my arms. But she doesn’t do it anymore, she’s always growling and upset. The house is in turmoil because they all pick on her. I’ve been trying over a year and nothing has worked. She might get along with another cat that’s easygoing but I don’t know. I need help. She’s a mixed Siamese and I bottle fed her from a few weeks old. She will be four years old September 30, I’m not sure if she’s good with kids because I don’t have any. I’m sure if they are patient with her and gentle she would love them. She’s loves people, and curling beside you and having your hand around her. She will be nervous but will warm up quickly. I do want to take her to a shelter because she’s been an indoor cat her whole life.

Gstsby is around 5 months old. He was found as a stray and animal control picked him up. He unfortunately have a torn and broken clavical bone which resulted un amputation. That doesn't stop him! He is has a loud purr motor and loves to play and cuddle. In fact, he enjoyed being the center of attention He is a typical kitten in every sense in that he loves to explore, lay in the sun and play!  If you would like to adopt Gatsby fill out an application at www.barktownrescue.org.  GATSBYS ADOPTION FEE IS $100The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess.    Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up.  All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption.
