We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application (DOG:https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=44, CAT: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=41, EXOTICS: https://service.sheltermanager.com/asmservice?account=dr1937&method=online_form_html&formid=46) completely. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Marble — a delicate, beautiful kitten with a heart as unique as her swirling patterns. Marble is a shy, under-socialized little girl who’s still learning that the world — and people — can be gentle. She may hide at first or keep her distance, trying to understand her surroundings before she dares to take a step forward. But with time, patience, and a soft voice, Marble begins to reveal the sweetness she’s been keeping tucked away.Once she feels safe, Marble shows her tender side through quiet curiosity, soft purrs, and careful little approaches. She’s not a bold or flashy kitten — she’s the kind of companion who will slowly, beautifully blossom for the person who gives her the space she needs.Marble would thrive in a calm home with someone who appreciates the gentle process of earning trust and building a deep, lasting bond.If you’re looking for a kitten to nurture, love, and watch grow into her confidence, Marble is ready to find her special someone.

Story
Meet Forest — a quiet, gentle kitten with a heart as soft as his name suggests. Forest is a beautiful little soul who hasn’t had much socialization yet, so the world can feel a bit big and overwhelming to him. He tends to stay in the background at first, watching everything carefully and taking his time to feel safe. But beneath that shy exterior is a kitten who wants to trust — he just needs someone patient enough to let him bloom at his own pace. With slow, gentle interactions, Forest begins to show his sweet side: soft blinks, small purrs, tiny steps closer each day. Earning his trust is a truly special experience, and once he feels comfortable, he’ll reward you with quiet affection and a bond that’s deep and meaningful.Forest would do best in a calm, patient home that understands that love sometimes grows slowly — but beautifully. If you’re looking for a tender-hearted kitten to nurture and help flourish, Forest is waiting for the person who sees the beauty in taking things one step at a time.

Story
Hello beautiful humans! My name is Cinnamon and I am a stunning 3-year-old Siamese female in search of my forever home. My story is a little bit sad, but my hope is that you can be my happy ending, does that sound okay to you? I was adopted to a family as a little baby girl and I was told that all my dreams had come true, I was finally home where I was meant to be! But after a while my family started to treat me weird, and I was tossed out of their door and left to wander the streets by myself for months. I had never been an outside kitty and I didn't know what I was doing, so I was really skinny and sick by the time I wandered to this nice ladies house. She took me in and nursed me back to health, she was so kind and sweet to me. We ended up finding out that I have IBD, but it doesn't impact how well I cuddle or how much I love you, because I really really do love humans! I just might need some help managing that with the occasional round of steroids or some probiotics. As of right now I am not on any prescription food. Overall I am a super sweet and social girl. It takes me a little bit to get to know you, but once I do we are bonded for life! I get along well with other cats and do great with dogs. I have lived with kids in the past, but young ones move a little to fast for me! I promise to be your best friend forever. Cinnamon is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting her, please send a message here, or email adopt@ahsem.org. Adoption fees are as follows: $155 for a single cat or kitten, $195 for a pair of cats or kittens. When adopting a cat from AHSEM the adoption includes spay or neuter surgery, age appropriate core vaccines, microchipping, combo tested (for FIV/FeLV), and basic wellness care including deworming and flea treatment.

Story
Meet Ivy & Willow – Bonded Siamese Sisters Ivy and Willow are two stunning 2-year-old Siamese mix sisters with hearts full of love. They came to us after losing their person, and while they can be shy at first, their gentle, loyal nature shines through once they feel safe. Ivy: The darker-marked beauty with classic Siamese features. She’s a little more reserved but will happily become your snuggly girl once she trusts you. Willow: A softer-toned sweetheart with hints of orange in her coat. She warms up quickly—especially when churus are involved! These bonded sisters adore each other and can often be found playing, grooming, or cuddling together. They also do well with other cats and are currently thriving in a foster home with both feline and canine friends. Ivy and Willow are looking for a calm, patient home (preferably without young children) where they can blossom at their own pace. With time and love, they’ll reward you with endless companionship and the joy of their inseparable bond. Adopt Ivy & Willow, and give these beautiful sisters the happy ending they deserve!
