Story
Gareth is a big, gorgeous, independent 6 year old lady, with tons of personality. She is a Siberian mix, and so is relatively low-shedding and hypoallergenic. She may take a long time to warm up to you, being hissy and growly when first meeting people, but when she does she can be a real lover. Very food-motivated, and loves to sit at the window watching birds, chase little spring toys, and sleep. Gareth suffers from Irritable Bowel Disease, so requires a special hydrolyzed diet and daily medication, typically administered in her wet food. With these inexpensive and easy treatments, her symptoms are well managed. She's a beautiful feline with a spunky attitude and will do well in a space where she can lounge, admire and be admired, and be her lovely, lazy, sassy self with no other cats to contend with. She's had a good experience living with a dog, and tends to prefer male humans to female humans. I am sad to have to rehome her, but I recently moved in with my partner and her beloved cat and we've tried hard to make it work but Gareth and the other cat simply don't get along. I'd prefer to rehome her with someone in the Portland area.  $50 rehoming fee.  Indoor only with catio available from owner.   This cat is offered for adoption due to the owner's personal circumstances. For more information on meeting and adopting this kitty, please fill out a pre-adoption application under "ADOPT" on our website at WWW.CATSCRADLERESCUE.COM. Your information will be forwarded to the owner for follow-ups and meeting arrangement.  Cat's Cradle is an all-volunteer, non-profit foster-home based rescue serving Oregon cats who need new homes. 100% of your adoption fee goes to provide for the medical and physical needs of the cats in our care. We invite you to become a foster parent and experience the great satisfaction of helping a cat or kitten in need.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 28, 2024, 1:59 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Gareth, and I must say, love is grand!! Especially when you are the center of the universe - but now, life has changed for me. We just recently combined families and I had lots of problems adjusting to sharing my person with his partner and another cat. My human dad knows I am not happy and what is best for me is to be an only pet. So, about me - I am about 6 years old. I am very much a one person cat. Patience would be a real plus when working to win me over. Initially, I might be hissy and growly, but, I am very food motivated, so that might be the best way for us to bond. Once comfortable, I can become a real love bug! Kids over 12 might be better, since I can be a bit grumpy and the younger kids might not be able to read my signs. And I vote no on those slobbery dog things. I do have some dietary issues (IBD) but that can easily be managed with my prescription diet and I take a daily medication that is put into my wet food. The food is about $40/mo and the meds about $16/mo - not that much more than other good quality foods. I have had an indoor life which suits me fine, and also have had a nice catio and have enjoyed hanging out there to watch the birds and squirrels. I am current on my vaccines and microchipped and very good with the litterbox. You might see me on a variety of rescue sites, not a problem!! You will be talking directly with my human dad, to learn all about my wonderfulness!!April 28, 2024, 6:51 pm

Story
We have a bonded pair of cats, we rescued them from the shelter back in 2018, at the time of their adoption we were told that they were around 3-4. So we have rounded up and believe them to be about 9-10 now. As I’ve stated the were adopted as a bonded pair and we would love them to be rehomed as a bonded pair also. They are a make and female, one male long hair Maine Coone and one female short hair, named Minnie and Mickey. We have one hypoallergenic standard poodle, and two children with adhd and autism so they are use to one calm dog and two rambunctious children and they are very much lap cats. They wait to hear the sound of the recliners open and come running for lap naps and cuddles. They are the epitome of fat house cats. They are spayed and neutered.  We do not make the decision to rehome our cats as an easy way out, it’s actually quite the opposite. Our youngest daughter has developed severe allergies to them. She sees an allergist on a regular basis, we have her on daily doses of 2 different allergy medications as well as two inhalers, but her allergies to the cats are progressively getting worse and worse, we have even tried the cat food that is supposed to reduce the allergens that humans can be affected by. We even moved jobs and homes from Washington to Oregon in an effort to reduce our daughters seasonal allergens, hoping it would give her an immunity boost to fight the allergies to the cats, however it has not helped. We have truly exhausted all efforts but have no options left.  We have a local shelter called Safe Haven, we were waitlisted by them twice, and cancelled the morning of our surrender appointments because we physically and emotionally just couldn’t bring ourselves to take them to a shelter, even one with staff as awesome as they are! We just didn’t have the heart to do it.  Minnie is our short hair. She is very much the queen of the house and knows it! She is not afraid to remind the dog that she is in charge around here. She can be timid around strangers at first but warms up quickly and is eager to explore, but she is always the first to jump on a lap, and demand pets as she falls asleep. Mickey is our long hair, he can be quite timid also especially around quick moving dogs and children but once he warms up, he is not shy to come and ask for pets, while he won’t climb onto a lap, he will definitely climb all over you while you’re sleeping and purr the night away. He just loves attention and pets! He is quick to find the warm nook of a bent knee in the middle of the night and make that his spot, and he is not shy to cuddle up to the dog either!  No matter how deep their sleep, they both come running at the sound of a shaking treat container!.  Rehoming fee is $150.  Indoor only!   This cat is offered for adoption due to the owner's personal circumstances. For more information on meeting and adopting this kitty, please fill out a pre-adoption application under "ADOPT" on our website at WWW.CATSCRADLERESCUE.COM.
