Story
About Me Meet Franklin (aka Frankie)—your future shadow, snuggle bug, and full-time entertainer all wrapped into one very loving pup. Frankie is a happy, high-energy boy who greets life (and everyone in it) with enthusiasm. He’s fantastic with kids, loves other dogs, and is always thrilled to meet new people—strangers included. Whether it’s a walk around the neighborhood, a car ride adventure, or a game of fetch with his favorite squeaky toy, Frankie is all in. In fact, just open the garage door and he’ll be the first one racing to the car, ready to go! This smart little guy learns quickly—he mastered his crate in just three days and figured out the doggy door in one. He’s leash, crate, and potty trained, though he’s still working on marking behaviors, which should improve after his upcoming neuter. He thrives on routine and will do best in a home that keeps him on a consistent potty schedule. Frankie is deeply affectionate and incredibly people-focused. He loves being close—like, really close. He’ll happily curl up next to you while you work, or better yet, try to climb right into your lap. He even likes to be held like a baby! He follows his person from room to room, always wanting to be part of whatever you’re doing. Lately, he’s discovered the joy of perching on the back of the couch to keep watch out the window—nothing gets past Frankie. He’s also delightfully silly. From stretching out dramatically for belly rubs to rubbing his face against your neck, Frankie has a way of making you laugh every day. He loves to jump into your arms, run after toys, and stay close by your side when outside. Frankie’s past hasn’t been easy—he came into rescue matted, underweight, and scared. Because of that, he’s a sensitive soul who forms strong bonds and can worry about being left behind. He truly wants to please and responds best to gentle, patient guidance. If you ask him, “what did you do?” he’ll melt into the most apologetic little face. He does have a few habits he’s still working through—like counter surfing for food (he likely got lots of human scraps before) and barking at unfamiliar noises. He can be a bit skittish with new sounds but has already made great progress and will continue to improve with reassurance and training. Frankie would likely thrive as the only pet in the home, where he can soak up all the attention he craves and continue building his confidence. He’s a devoted companion who will give his whole heart to his people—and in return, he’s hoping for a family that will give him structure, patience, and lots of love. If you’re looking for a loyal, affectionate, slightly goofy best friend who will stick by your side through everything, Frankie is your guy. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.  Starling is a brave little six-year-old Shih Tzu whose sweet, silly personality has truly blossomed in foster care. When she first arrived, she was terrified of people and her new environment—but she has made incredible progress and is so ready to continue that journey in a loving forever home. These days, Starling seeks out her people and happily spends time nearby—especially if there’s a lap involved. Once she feels safe, her playful, quirky side shines through in the cutest ways: a little bounce here, a wiggly roll there, or rubbing her face along the ground in pure joy. It’s impossible not to smile around her. Starling has gained so much confidence in her day-to-day life. She proudly trots up and down stairs, is fully potty trained on a schedule, and does wonderfully with full access to the main floor while her foster parent is away. She loves exploring the yard, carefully sniffing every corner with growing curiosity and confidence. While she may be timid when first meeting new people, she warms up quickly and becomes a devoted, affectionate companion. She has shown friendly curiosity toward neighbor dogs with no signs of fear or aggression, suggesting she could thrive either as an only dog or as part of a pack. Starling is still learning that the leash isn’t so scary—she currently freezes when it’s introduced—so she’ll need a patient adopter committed to helping her build confidence at her own pace. She is crate trained, knows “go potty,” and is overall a wonderful, well-mannered little girl. She will also need regular grooming to keep her coat healthy and comfortable (her groomer reports she’s an absolute angel!). Starling has worked so hard to become the joyful little princess she is today. Starling didn’t just learn how to be a dog-  she learned how to love, and now she’s ready to give that love to someone who sees just how special she is.  With a gentle, patient home, she will continue to blossom into an incredibly loyal, loving, and delightfully quirky companion who gives her whole heart once she knows she’s home.  Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.   ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Tallahassee is a 9.5-pound Maltese senior with a soft spirit, a shy heart, and the sweetest presence you could ever hope for in a companion. She’s around 9–10 years old and has some medical needs, but she is full of love, calm energy, and quiet companionship. She is incredibly gentle and wonderfully quiet — truly a dream dog for anyone with shared walls or a peaceful home. She never barks for attention, food, or visitors. Instead, she prefers to quietly observe the world around her, taking her time to warm up before offering her trust. Once she feels safe, she loves being in the same room as her person, napping nearby, and soaking up the comfort of simply being close.  Because of this, she would thrive in a home where someone is around much of the time to keep her company. Tallahassee is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves being petted and spending time outside. She has a soft curiosity about the world and enjoys taking in her surroundings at her own pace. She’s doing well on walks and continues to grow more confident with each outing. She has been doing very well with her potty routine when kept on a consistent schedule. Tally does best with regular potty breaks every 3–4 hours and will reliably go outside when given the opportunity. During freezing or very rainy weather, she has also used potty pads on an enclosed porch. She keeps her kennel clean and settles in beautifully when crated. Like many dogs who are still learning house habits, she may occasionally mistake rugs or previously marked areas for potty spots if not kept on a routine, but she continues to make great progress. She now sleeps with her foster mom and loves the comfort and security of being close at night. Indoors, she enjoys cozy spots to rest, while outside she’s happy to explore, people watch, or simply enjoy the fresh air. Tallahassee is wonderful with other dogs and has a very calm, respectful presence. She may feel nervous if another dog rushes up too quickly or in unfamiliar situations, and may try to quietly slip away until she feels safe again. She has made nice progress in the car and is gaining confidence with each ride. She has also learned commands like “come,” “down,” and “go potty.” She has several medical needs, including a heart murmur requiring twice-daily medication, as well as a hernia and significant dental disease. Due to her heart condition, she is not a candidate for anesthesia, so she is not able to be spayed and her dental and surgical needs will be managed conservatively. She will need a home committed to her comfort, routine care, and gentle handling. Tallahassee doesn’t have much interest in toys, but she loves soft treats, warm naps, and being near her person. She is the sweetest little companion who will sit with you for hours, offering quiet affection and a peaceful, steady presence. If you’re looking for a gentle, loving senior who wants nothing more than a calm home, a soft bed, and someone to adore—Tallahassee is ready to be your devoted little shadow. Some souls are quiet, but they love the deepest—Tallahassee is one of them Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption.
