Story
Gracie is a one-of-a-kind low-riding, wide eared phenomenon who will stare directly into your eyes as if she has an important communication for you, The right adopter will be able to hear her. Her breed blend is a bit of a mystery. Basset? Dachshund? Who knows? Who cares? Not Gracie. Her legs measure approximately 11 baby carrots in length but she toddles through the room with the confidence of a an Amazon. Her ears are wide enough to pick up satellite signals, ensuring free cable for her new family! Gracie is a genuinely lovely little companion. She adores her people, enjoys a slow, thoughtful stroll {emphasis on slow}, and would happily spend the rest of her days being near you while you do absolutely anything… or nothing at all. She is the perfect home companion. Housetrained, good on the leash, happy to go for car rides, generally sleeps through the night. She is happy to spend all her time with her human and wants to be the one and only pet. Her vision and hearing seem pretty solid. Due to her back pain, she has trouble with stairs and would prefer to be carried up and down, like the queen that she is. Gracie would love for her new home to have a fenced yard where she can amble around, sniff things, and soak up the rays. She'd also love to go for lots of walks, have plenty of snuggle time, and enjoy a calm, quiet routine with her beloved human. She is hoping her human will be home most of the time or take her with wherever they go. She loves to be petted and snoodled and talked to. She will follow you everywhere! Not only will she lie AT your feet, she will lie ON your feet! Gracie has cushing's disease, so she will need to stay on medication to help her manage it for life. She also has some arthritis, including the above-mentioned back pain, which is benefitting from joint supplements like Cosequin and medications like gabapentin. She will also benefit from routing anal expressions (sorry, Gracie!). Gracie is a happy, happy dog, with the waggiest tail you could imagine! Gracie will not be your jogging partner or you agility champion, but she will be your devoted, loving companion. Gracie is approx 11 years old and 35 lbs. Fostered in Fairfield, PA Please apply at mirishaven.org

Story
Current Location: Nottingham, MD Meet Fred 💛 Fred is a tender, young Shih Tzu mix who is learning what life can be like when it’s safe, quiet, and kind. He came from a hoarding situation, so the world is still a very big and sometimes scary place—but every day, Fred shows small, brave signs of trust that speak volumes about the loving dog he’s becoming. He’s not ready for hands yet, and sudden movements send him scurrying for cover, but if you sit quietly or go about your day, Fred may sneak close, sniff curiously, and—if he’s feeling extra courageous—offer a quick lick before retreating again. Those tiny moments are huge victories for a dog who has learned that survival sometimes means staying invisible. What truly makes Fred shine is his love for other dogs. He bonded quickly and deeply with his calm, patient foster brother Guinness, who has become his emotional anchor and favorite companion. Fred feels safest with a steady canine friend by his side and will need a similar dog in his future home to help him build confidence. With the right buddy, Fred shows glimpses of joy—howling in protest when separated, scattering toys and chews around the house, stealing socks, and getting the “rips” as he dashes around trying to spark a game of chase. While higher‑energy dogs still feel overwhelming, his curiosity is growing, and he’s watching the world a little more closely every day. Fred is still very much a work in progress and will need a patient, dog‑savvy home committed to moving at his pace. He’s a flight risk and not ready for outdoor adventures yet, and grooming and handling will take time and trust. He’s learning to use potty pads again, loves toys and natural chews, and rewards kindness with quiet companionship and gentle glances from across the room. Fred may not be the dog who runs up for cuddles—but for the right person, earning his trust will be an incredibly meaningful journey. If you believe love can be measured in small steps and soft victories, Fred just might be your kind of dog. 🐾

Story
Meet Winchester. Winchester is a sweet little guy who weighs just 14 pounds, and our veterinarian estimates he is about 8 years old. Sadly, it appears he has lived a life of neglect. He came to us from a shelter in deep South Texas missing much of his fur and looking like he had likely gone a very long time without even the most basic veterinary care. We suspect he may have spent much of his life living outside or fending for himself. The girls here at the rescue have nicknamed him “The Mountain Man” because of his rugged coloring and scruffy appearance. He also reminds me of a little old man who smoked too many cigars....he has the deepest, funniest bark that always makes us smile. Despite his difficult past, Winchester has a gentle, easygoing personality. He gets along well with the other dogs at the rescue and is happiest just hanging out by your side. He isn’t asking for much—just a soft bed, a kind hand, and someone to love. More than anything, we would love to see Winchester spend his golden years in a loving home. We think he would be the perfect companion for a retired person or couple looking for a quiet, loyal friend. After everything he’s been through, he deserves to know what it’s like to be cherished, comfortable, and loved for the rest of his life. Winchester is located at our shelter near San Antonio, TX and is available for transport to Frederick, MD on August 22nd with approved application and confirmed adoption. His adoption fee is $450. The fee includes transport cost. Winchester did test positive for Chagas but he is doing great on treatment. You can read all about Chagas on our website or by the videos below. It is nothing to be worried about.... Whether you adopt a dog from Tracy's Paws or another rescue in the south, it is importanant to know what Chagas is.... it's everyhwere down here. ❤️If you’d like to make this sweet dog part of your family, please review our adoption process and complete an application here: https://www.tracyspawsrescue.org/adopt Learn more about our rescue here: https://www.facebook.com/TracysPawsRescue Every dog adopted through Tracy’s Paws receives: • Chagas, heart worm, and tick testing (when age-appropriate) • All core vaccines (age-appropriate) • Heart worm and flea/tick preventatives • Regular De-worming • Spay/neuter surgery • Microchip Breed and age listings are our best guess, based on appearance.
