Story
Current Location: Nottingham, MD Meet Fred 💛 Fred is a tender, young Shih Tzu mix who is learning what life can be like when it’s safe, quiet, and kind. He came from a hoarding situation, so the world is still a very big and sometimes scary place—but every day, Fred shows small, brave signs of trust that speak volumes about the loving dog he’s becoming. He’s not ready for hands yet, and sudden movements send him scurrying for cover, but if you sit quietly or go about your day, Fred may sneak close, sniff curiously, and—if he’s feeling extra courageous—offer a quick lick before retreating again. Those tiny moments are huge victories for a dog who has learned that survival sometimes means staying invisible. What truly makes Fred shine is his love for other dogs. He bonded quickly and deeply with his calm, patient foster brother Guinness, who has become his emotional anchor and favorite companion. Fred feels safest with a steady canine friend by his side and will need a similar dog in his future home to help him build confidence. With the right buddy, Fred shows glimpses of joy—howling in protest when separated, scattering toys and chews around the house, stealing socks, and getting the “rips” as he dashes around trying to spark a game of chase. While higher‑energy dogs still feel overwhelming, his curiosity is growing, and he’s watching the world a little more closely every day. Fred is still very much a work in progress and will need a patient, dog‑savvy home committed to moving at his pace. He’s a flight risk and not ready for outdoor adventures yet, and grooming and handling will take time and trust. He’s learning to use potty pads again, loves toys and natural chews, and rewards kindness with quiet companionship and gentle glances from across the room. Fred may not be the dog who runs up for cuddles—but for the right person, earning his trust will be an incredibly meaningful journey. If you believe love can be measured in small steps and soft victories, Fred just might be your kind of dog. 🐾

If you are interested in adopting or fostering this dog. Please visit our website - www.cockeradoptions.org   There, you will find the current status of the dog, the links to our adoption and foster applications, and detailed information about our adopting and fostering procedures.   07/16/2026 - Videos: Sammy getting ready to have some fun. 06/20/2026 - Videos: Sammy loves belly rubs. Cute Sammy. MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: My name is Sammy and I am looking for a home that will be a perfect fit. I came to CSAC as a stray that was saved from a shelter. I have had trauma in my short life as a stray. I was starving, hurt by people, and not doing a great job of taking care of myself. As you can see, although I hide it well, I lost an eye. I needed human help to be safe, healthy, and loved - not hurt! I am happy to sit on the couch and be a lap dog, but also to run around and go for walks with the people that I trust helping me to find my way. I do well with other dogs, but I do not trust men, especially if I feel that I need to protect my human mom. The best fit for me would be a female owner who understands my needs and can help me to feel safe if men come to visit my house. I have made great progress and just need a new guardian angel mom to take me home and give me all the love that I deserve. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible. Click the Donate menu at the top of the screen. Story
Meet Presley! At just three years old, Presley was found homeless, wandering the streets of a rural Tennessee neighborhood northwest of Nashville. His fur was so severely matted and tangled that the animal control officer struggled to safely capture him. (Video footage and photo number 4 show the heartbreaking condition he was in.)   Presley was in so much discomfort he could barely move. His mats were so extensive the officer couldn’t even determine his gender. After sedation, Presley was gently shaved, and Mr. Randy painstakingly removed every tangle.   When he woke up, Presley was like a new dog! He ran joyfully up and down the hall, then rushed to find Mr. Randy, who had saved him, expressing his gratitude with happy tail wags and affectionate rubs. The once-scared, nameless pup was now a handsome, happy Presley.   Presley is a 3-year-old, 19-pound Shih Tzu with a loving heart. He adores being close to his foster mom and follows her everywhere. Presley gets along well with his canine foster siblings—their favorite pastime is playing and running together in the fenced yard. He’s also perfectly content entertaining himself with a game of toss-the-toy. Presley is a wonderful companion, but he can’t resist chasing cats, so his forever home should be feline-free.   Presley will make a delightful addition to your home. He’s a quick learner—he’s mastered the doggie door and is fully housebroken. While Presley will use a crate if needed, he much prefers being out with his family.     Presley would thrive with an active family who enjoys walks and adventures. To learn more about welcoming Presley into your home, please email Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com or text 615-943-7311. An approved application and adoption fee are required. Presley is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north after adoption.August 30, 2026, 7:34 pm

Story
Meet our charming Shih Tzu mix boy named  Sir Ziggy — a young Shih Tzu (mostly Shih Tzu) with a wonderfully playful spirit and a personality that is hard not to fall in love with.  At about 12–15 months old and 13 pounds, Ziggy is the perfect combination of small size and big personality. He is full of energy and absolutely loves interacting with his person. Playing, wrestling, being scooped up and flipped upside down, or simply getting some one-on-one attention — Ziggy is happiest when he is included. He has a wonderfully silly side, and when the zoomies begin, watching him race and bounce around is pure entertainment.   Ziggy genuinely enjoys other dogs and is eager to make friends. Sometimes his enthusiasm gets the better of him, and he needs a little help understanding that not every dog is quite as excited about playtime as he is. He responds well to guidance and will benefit from someone who can give him appropriate boundaries while still appreciating his exuberant personality. One of the sweetest things about Ziggy is his outlook on life. My goodness is this boy a happy, resilient little guy who doesn't seem to hold a grudge or get discouraged when another dog isn't interested in playing. He simply moves on and finds something else to enjoy. There is a genuine sweetness underneath all that puppy energy. (We could all take a cue on this attitude)  :-)   Ziggy is in good health and is up to date on wellness care, testing, preventatives, and vaccines.   He is looking for a home that will appreciate his enthusiasm for life while helping him continue to learn and mature. A youngish adopter that is 55 and younger might be just what this boy needs. We want him to have consistent boundaries, patience, play, and plenty of affection will go a long way with this boy.   Ziggy isn't looking for a perfect life — just a person who will enjoy his goofy antics, appreciate his affectionate nature, and give him the guidance he needs to grow into the wonderful little companion we know he can be.   If you're looking for a fun-loving little dog who will keep you smiling and happily be your partner in play, Ziggy might just be your guy. ❤️ Please contact Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com if you are interested!!!   PLEASE NOTE:  Our dogs are transported from Tennessee to meeting places in the states where we have posted.  Further information about us is given on our Adopt-A-Pet site.  The adoption fees vary and will be provided as well as noted on the application you receive.  Contact us at 615-661-5333 or ccrnewengland@gmail.comAugust 30, 2026, 7:34 pm

Story
Meet Jingles! Jingles has perfected the art of enjoying life's little luxuries. A good nap, a leisurely stroll, a car ride, a tasty snack, and supervising human bathroom breaks? His idea of a perfect day. Jingles lost the only home he'd ever known when his beloved owner passed away. In the years leading up to that loss, his owner's declining health made it increasingly difficult to keep up with Jingles' care. By the time he came to Miri's Haven, he was underweight, struggling with chronic skin allergies and dry eyes, and in need of a fresh start. Today, thanks to the care he's received at Miri's Haven, his skin has healed, the itchiness is gone, he's gaining weight, and he's discovering just how good life can be. Everyone says the same thing when they meet Jingles: "Look at those eyes." His big, soulful eyes have a way of winning people over instantly. Jingles is sweet, quiet, and wonderfully content just being near his people, not necessarily in your lap, but always close enough to keep you company. He walks beautifully on leash and is happiest wandering around the yard, riding shotgun in the car, going for stroller rides once his little legs get tired, or tagging along on adventures. He even checked into a hotel recently and immediately embarked on the sniffari to end all sniffaris, carefully investigating every square inch of the room before deciding the accommodations were acceptable. Once his inspection was complete, he settled in like the perfect little gentleman and happily greeted every visitor who stopped by. Of course, Jingles isn't all distinguished gentleman. He firmly believes that no one should have to use the bathroom alone, so expect an adorable little escort every time you head that way. One of his favorite games is "get your feet," where he playfully nibbles at your toes, and according to Jingles, his tiger bed is quite possibly the greatest invention of all time. It's been incredible to watch his personality emerge now that he knows safety, comfort, and love are finally here to stay. Jingles is looking for a calm home with at least one other friendly dog and a fenced yard where he can safely explore. He's low-energy, sleeps through the night, rides beautifully in the car, and is happy to relax while you're away. He wears a belly band because he occasionally has accidents indoors. To keep him feeling his best, he'll need lifelong eye drops, daily probiotic supplements to help keep his skin healthy, and a diet free of chicken and grains due to his allergies. He also has some vision loss and needs to be carried up stairs, but none of it stops him from enjoying life's simple pleasures. More than anything, Jingles wants a family that appreciates the simple things right alongside him. Someone who will happily take him for a drive, let him tag along on quiet adventures, laugh when he insists on supervising bathroom breaks, and understand that the very best days usually end with a cozy nap. After 15 years, we think he's earned exactly that. Jingles is approximately 15 years old and 9 lbs. Fostered in Romney, WV Please apply at MirisHaven.org
