If you are interested in adopting or fostering this dog. Please visit our website - www.cockeradoptions.org   There, you will find the current status of the dog, the links to our adoption and foster applications, and detailed information about our adopting and fostering procedures.   MY ORIGINAL INTAKE INFORMATION: Hi Everyone! My name is Bozeman, and I just arrived at CSAC from a shelter. I have had a tough journey. I was a stray dog brought to the shelter. I was starving, underweight, and my right eye was punctured. The shelter vet removed my right eye because I was in pain and it was not fixable. Even though I am having a lot of stress, everyone says that I am calm, curious, gentle and a sweet boy. I need a new home that can take proper care of me and give me the love and attention I deserve. Right now, I am in the caring hands of one of the great Vets that work with the CSAC. They are checking me out and making sure I am healthy. Hopefully, I will find my new family that will turn me into a happy, cherished pet. For more information about this dog, email our Adoption Coordinator. Our adoption process starts with an application. If you are interested in adopting this pup, please click the Adopt menu at the top of the screen, read about our process, and click the application link. The medical and custodial care of the many Cockers in our care is tremendous. More and more dogs are abandoned with urgent and serious medical issues. We are committed to providing the best possible care for these forgotten friends. Unfortunately, the mounting high costs are beginning to limit the number of dogs we are able to take into our program. Even if you cannot adopt or foster one of our current adoptable dogs, please consider making a donation. The Cocker Spaniel Adoption Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization, and your donations are entirely tax deductible. Click the Donate menu at the top of the screen. Story
Captain is a 5- to 7-year-old, super sweet and loving Shih Tzu boy. He may be a little shy at first, but he quickly warms up and doesn’t meet a stranger. This handsome black and white dog was found as a stray and was severely matted, with the fur around his eyes so tangled that it caused him trouble seeing. It was heartbreaking to see his face in that condition.  After receiving grooming and visiting the vet, he was diagnosed with severe dry eye, a common condition in Shih Tzus. Fortunately, dry eye is manageable, and Captain will just need to use eye drops for the rest of his life. We believe he has been dealing with this condition for a long time, but it doesn’t seem to have bothered him. He started on medication immediately and is now on the road to more comfortable eyes!  Captain shows no negative effects from his time as a stray. He is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet—so lovable that you’ll want to pick him up and give him a good squeeze. He enjoys love and attention but is not demanding and doesn’t need to be right by your side; he appreciates being adored. Captain would make a great addition to a loving family or a couple. If you are an empty nester looking for a loving companion, or a single person seeking a special little friend, Captain is the perfect match for you. He loves all adults and is so sweet that he would likely be fine with older children as well.  Captain has been neutered, is current on all his vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. To be considered for his forever family and to request an application, please contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com. An approved application and adoption fee are required. (Captain is currently in Tennessee and can be transported north upon adoption.)July 10, 2025, 5:13 pm

Story
Betsey is a super sweet and loving Shih Tzu-Bichon mix who is 10 years old and weighs 18 lbs. Unfortunately, she found herself in a shelter, and we are unsure of the circumstances that led her there. Betsey truly is a little treasure; her angelic face radiates her kind nature. She is happy-go-lucky and loves everyone she meets.  Betsey would make a great companion for the right person or family. She is an independent little one who enjoys doing her own thing. Betsey loves her crate and will happily nap there or on any available dog bed. She does need some exercise as she could lose a little weight, although that’s not her favorite activity.  Betsey is housebroken and happily goes outside to do her business. There is a doggie door available, and she is learning how to use it. Although she finds it a bit intimidating to venture outside without knowing what awaits her, she quickly does her business and turns right back around to come inside. Betsey walks well on a leash and enjoys going for walks, but she prefers to spend her time just hanging out. At bedtime, be sure to leave a bed in your room for Betsey. She may eventually want to join you in your bed, but for now, she is content to have her own little space.  Please consider adding Betsey to your family; you won’t regret it. The love you receive from this little lady will far exceed the love you give her. Betsey deserves a loving home where she can spend her remaining years. There’s nothing quite like the affection of a senior dog. Betsey is spayed, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. To be considered for adoption and to request an application, please contact Vivienne at vivienneajames@gmail.com. An approved application and adoption fee are required. (Betsey is currently located in Tennessee but can be transported north upon adoption.)July 10, 2025, 5:13 pm

Story
Meet Oh Susanna – The Ultimate Vibe Setter Ohhhh Susanna… we just can’t sit still when this fabulous girl is in the room! With a name like a song and a heart full of sunshine, this 3-year-old, 22-pound Shih Tzu mix is pure joy wrapped in fur. Let’s get straight to the point: Susanna is off-the-charts amazing. Her foster family gives her an A+ in everything that counts—affection, intelligence, temperament, and looks. She’s got that classic Shih Tzu charm: slightly royal, totally adorable, and full of personality. But don’t let the princess vibes fool you—she’s grounded, go-with-the-flow, and lives to make you smile. After her beloved elderly owner moved into assisted living, Susanna gracefully packed her bags (okay, maybe just her favorite toys) and is now ready to start her next chapter with a forever family who can keep up with her zest for life. Let’s talk highlights: Fully vetted: spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and healthy as can be House and car ride pro: She’ll call shotgun and expect tunes, thank you very much Hypoallergenic qualities: sneeze-free snuggles for allergy-sensitive homes Great with other dogs: makes friends faster than you can say 'treat!' Chill and cuddly: the perfect balance of play and relaxation Learns fast: she’s smarter than your average fluffball Susanna has that rare mix of calm confidence and playful sparkle. Whether she’s strutting into the local pet store like she owns the place or curling up next to you for a Netflix marathon, she’s always right where you want her to be. She brings that extra to the everyday—and if you let her, she’ll turn your life into a highlight reel of laughter, snuggles, and spontaneous joy. Ready for a little sparkle in your life? Email Critter Cavalry Rescue at ccrnewengland@gmail.com to learn more or apply to adopt. Don’t forget to include your city and state—Susanna’s social calendar is filling up fast! PLEASE NOTE:   Our dogs and cats are fostered in Tennessee and can transport weekly up to the Northeast region.  Request an application and learn more about Critter Cavalry at https://www.crittercavalry.com/adoption.July 17, 2025, 4:55 pm

Story
Meet Louie! This sweet shih tzu boy should be spending his golden years in the comfort of a quiet home, curled up in a cozy bed with someone who adores him. Instead, he found himself back at the shelter ~ confused, matted to the skin, and heartbroken. He was adopted just a year ago - just one! And then, without warning, returned. His coat was so severely neglected he had to be sedated and completely shaved. The reason given? “I don’t have time.” Louie didn’t understand. He still doesn’t. But he’s trying to be brave. Frankly, we don’t understand either. He's friendly, healthy, and mobile. He’s full of gentle resilience and good with dogs and cats, though he can do without the chaos of young children. When Louie arrived at Miri’s Haven, he quietly said hello to the other dogs, then found a bed and curled up as if to say, “Is this home now?” He deserves more than temporary comfort - he deserves a family who will never give up on him again. Could it be yours? Louie is approximately 12 years old and 16 lbs. More details as we get to know him better. Fostered in Rockville, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Meet Hazel! This sweet girl is a total lovebug ~ she either wants to be in foster mama’s lap or snuggled up like a little cinnamon roll right next to her. Hazel settled into her foster home so fast, it’s like she’s been here forever. She's still working on the whole “potty outside” thing ~ but Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither was bladder control! She is obssessed with walks and does THE cutest little wiggle-dance when she sees her harness ~ like a senior prom queen getting ready for the red carpet. Hazel is super curious about other dogs and people, but she’s got boundaries, thank you very much. Sniff first, friendship maybe later. Hazel is also an A+ eater. No picky princess behavior here ~ she finishes every meal like a champ. Basically: she’s adorable, she’s sassy, she’s perfect. Come meet her! Hazel is approximately 9 years old and 14 lbs. Fostered in Alexandria, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org
