Story
Meet Ziggy, an incredibly handsome 4-year-old, 25 lb. Chihuahua/Fox Terrier mix. He is an affectionate and sweet boy who just wants to find his forever family. He was found as a stray and taken to an overcrowded, high-kill shelter in Houston, Texas. Farfel's rescued him and brought him to Colorado, where we know his perfect home awaits.
From Ziggy's foster:
"Ziggy is truly such a sweet, loving little guy. He can be a little hesitant when meeting new people, but once he feels safe, he completely blossoms into the most affectionate boy. He loves cuddling on the couch, sleeping in bed with me, and following me from room to room. If you're looking for a loyal shadow, Ziggy is your guy!"
One of Ziggy's favorite things is spending time in the yard. With his playful and social nature, Ziggy adores spending time in the yard, chasing squirrels, and playing with other dogs. He's a smart boy who knows tricks and loves to show them off. He's also a smart little guy who already knows commands like 'sit' and can even catch treats in mid-air!
Ziggy genuinely enjoys other dogs, in the home, at doggy daycare, or anywhere off leash. He does great with other dogs in daycare. The daycare provider has the following to say: "Ziggy does very well in daycare. His best friends are Marvel, Bear and Maggie. He likes to follow around the person in the yard when he needs a break from daycare. He loves cuddles and is very playful. We love Ziggy!"
Another compliment from daycare: "Ziggy loves brain games to get treats! Very sweet baby. Loved us humans."
Off leash and in appropriate settings, Ziggy is very social and playful with other dogs. Ziggy also appreciates slow introductions with new people coming into the home. He likes having a chance to observe before making new friends, but once he realizes you're safe, he quickly becomes affectionate and eager for attention. The people who know Ziggy absolutely adore him.
Because Ziggy has experienced so much instability throughout his life, he thrives on routine, consistency, and being close to his people. He would be happiest in a quieter home with someone who is home much of the day, works from home, or is retired. Ziggy is 100% potty trained, can be left loose in the home, has never chewed or destroyed anything, and has wonderful house manners.
Ziggy is in excellent health. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and heartworm tested. He is blind in one eye due to what appears to be an old corneal scar, but it doesn't bother him at all and he navigates the world beautifully with his good eye.
The ideal home for Ziggy will have a securely fenced yard, and adopters who are excited to continue helping him build confidence through positive reinforcement training and thoughtful management. Once you've earned Ziggy's trust, you'll have a loving, funny, cuddly best friend who will happily spend every day by your side.
Farfel's Rescue would like to see Ziggy continue with positive reinforcement training. A virtual or in-person force-free training class helps build confidence, strengthens the bond between dog and adopter, and sets every rescue dog up for lifelong success. Because of this, we're looking for adopters who are committed to continuing Ziggy's training journey. Training is so important in the future behavior of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's provides a list of approved positive reinforcement trainers.
