Ludwig is a big, beautiful St. Bernard with an even bigger personality hiding behind a shy, guarded heart. This handsome adult boy may be 100% deaf, so the world feels a little different to him. He does not always warm up quickly to new people, and he is not the kind of dog who wants to be passed around at parties or introduced to every guest who walks through the door. Ludwig needs patience, understanding, and someone experienced enough to let trust build at his pace. But once you become his person? That is when the magic happens. The shy, unsure boy transforms into a goofy, joyful, oversized love bug who will make you smile in ways you did not expect. His foster says that once Ludwig trusts you, the happiness he brings is something truly special. Ludwig absolutely loves other dogs of all sizes and appears friendly with other animals, too. He enjoys his daily walks, gets the zoomies in the backyard, walks well on leash, and is fantastic in his crate. He is also very food motivated, which is a great help when building trust and working on communication. Now, let’s be honest: Ludwig sheds. Ludwig drools. Ludwig eats like a St. Bernard. And sometimes Ludwig moves through life like a bull in a china shop. But for the right person, those things will simply become part of his charm. Ludwig is looking for an experienced, patient adopter who understands that the best dogs are not always the easiest dogs at first. He may need a few meetings before he is ready to show you his true self, but Maxx & Me will help guide you before and after adoption.
