Story
Boone has been a long-time resident of the Humane Society of Morgan County. He had been reportedly mistreated and eventually abandoned by his owner in 2016 and found by our local Animal Control. Soon after coming to HSMC, Boone had two adoptions but was returned from each due to resource guarding and insecurities. After being returned the first time, we also began seeing resource guarding with his treats and toys and had him evaluated by behaviorist Pat Miller. Following the evaluation, we opted to place Boone on a medication called Prozac and worked on a resource guarding modification program. Over time, we saw improvements in Boone. He became more affectionate and began bonding well with volunteer staff. Eventually, Boone was able to go to a foster home where he remained in a single owner’s home for 1 and ½ years. Unfortunately, his foster’s own physical limitations and Boones resource guarding with his friends made it difficult to care for Boone and he felt the need to return him back to the shelter. Boone is a sweet, affectionate, and an intelligent dog who has a “definite mind of his own.” He requires a special owner who will give him love, but most importantly set and keep up with consistent boundaries as he acclimates to a new home. His new owner should be experienced with larger breeds (Boone is approximately 65lbs) and those with a resource guarding history. Boone has not been on Prozac for years and has done well with just CBD, 1 time a day (2cc), to help with day-to-day shelter stress. Boone responds very well to praise for good behavior. Having been recently evaluated through an animal communicator, it was felt that Boone has made strides in overcoming old behavioral challenges and is deserving of a second chance. It was recommended that we seek an owner who will be a strong presence and who will maintain consistent firm boundaries. As we learned during communication, he is looking for that kind of structure. Boone longs for an unconditional human bond. He loves his daily walks and going for car rides. He has always been well behaved at vet appointments. A quieter pet free home in a rural setting would be ideal. Boone is in good health and maintains a healthy weight. He is neutered, and up to date with his vaccinations. If you think you could provide this special senior dog with his forever home, we welcome hearing from you. Please begin by completing an application found on our website hsmc- wv.org.

Story
Medo is a very sweet pure bred St. Bernard. He’s 5 years old and turning 6 on November 3rd. He loves cuddles, treats, and running around for very short periods of time. Ideally Medo would love to live in a home with a huge back yard to have plenty of space to play and sunbathe. He’s a large dog and requires lots of space. Preferably a home that doesn’t mind slobber and hair everywhere. He needs to be consistently groomed to avoid his hair getting matted and he has sensitive skin. He’s very well house trained. He’s reactive around other dogs ONLY when on leash as he’s been attacked 3 times during walks but tends to get along well with other dogs in his own home and at the groomers. Overall he loves people and loves attention.
