Story
Welcome to rescue, Rhino! He is a parvo survivor that Muddy Paws took in when his owner couldn't care for him. He is doing wonderful at his foster home! We believe he is a Staffordshire/Pit Bull Terrier mix, who is guessed to be about 6 years of age. He is very sweet and seems good with other dogs. Rhino LOVES to play and needs a best friend!
Rhino's Personality
He loves LOVE and is a bit of a bulldozer when he wants love, so he is working on his manners and he is catching on quickly. (He might be a little too much for small kids.)
Rhino loves to CUDDLE and he is a velcro dog - he will be your constant companion and follow you around. He is so curious!
He grunts when he is happy and snores like a chainsaw.
He is very sweet and affectionate.
Training in Progress
Rhino knows his name and comes when called, he even recalls with a whistle.
He knows the verbal and hand gestures. to sit. He also knows "leave it".
He is very food motivated. His tummy is still upset from all he's had going on so no treats for him yet, but he goes in his kennel for a few kibbles with no problem.
He likes to "pibble nibble" your arm while petting him, but he is easily redirected by giving him a toy to hold. He's working on the "get a toy" command.
Rhino is potty trained and will benefit from a routine and regular potty breaks. He does cry when he needs to go out and will go to the store.
NOTES FROM FOSTER MOM 4/1/26: Rhino is an absolute gem, a parvo survivor who wears his resilience with pride and fills every room with joy. He has a heart as big as his playful personality and gets along wonderfully with children and dogs while politely giving cats their own space. Life for Rhino is all about fun. He cannot get enough of toys and peanut butter-filled Kongs and his excitement is contagious. Sweet, affectionate, and endlessly loving, he wants nothing more than to be everyone’s best friend, offering snuggles, tail wags, and unconditional companionship wherever he goes.
The suggested adoption donation for Rhino is $400, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.
Before applying to adopt Rhino, you need to be familiar with your local breed-specific legislation regarding Pit Bulls. Applicants must live within 50 miles of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area.
Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.
Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.

[Muddy Paws can also suggest a vet with a reduced cost for alters.] All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized. Thank you in advance for your compliance.
