We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
Meet Lennie! This dapper doodle mix is two years old and weighs 57 lbs. He is ready, willing, and able to be your new best friend! Lennie is a very food-motivated pup who already knows sit and is capable of learning even more. He went on an outing with one of our volunteers and enjoyed every minute. Well-mannered on leash and a pro in the car, this guy is ready to join you on all of your adventures. Lennie will benefit from continued training, daily exercise and a yard to enjoy in his new home. He will require regular grooming which should be taking in to consideration when adopting him. He was recently groomed and was very tolerant during his spa day. Check out his before and after pics! Based on our evaluation, Lennie will do best in an active home with adults or families with kids ages 12 and up. He may have the ability to live in a home with other animals and we are happy to do a meet and greet with your family fur baby. Breed experience is a plus. If you think he could be the pup you've been searching for, visit greatlakesdogrescue.com today and submit your application for our lovable Lennie!

Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Obie At 7 years young and 100 pounds of lovable fluff, Obie is your classic gentle giant with a heart as big as his paws. This handsome Goldendoodle has mastered the art of being the perfect companion—whether that means lounging at your feet or happily supervising your daily routine like the goodest foreman. Obie has lived with just about everyone… kids, a smaller dog, cats, and yes—even chickens (we told you he was special). His easygoing nature and friendly personality make him a wonderful fit for a variety of homes. He’s past the puppy chaos phase and fully in his “let’s enjoy life” era—think loyal sidekick, steady presence, and a whole lot of love to give. Obie thrives on companionship and would do best in a home where he can be part of the family’s everyday life. ✔️ Great with kids✔️ Dog-friendly✔️ Cat-friendly✔️ Chicken-approved ✔️ 100 lbs of pure good boy energy If you’re looking for a calm, affectionate, and well-rounded best friend, Obie might just be your perfect match.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.  ********************************************************************************** We show some of our adoptable dogs at PetSmart, Utica, each Saturday between the hours of 11:00am and 3:00pm.  Cats typically don't do well at events, so they only attend with a pre-approved meet and greet appointment. If you are interested in a particular pet, we suggest you email: mmarpaws@gmail.com to see if that pet will be there.   Applications are approved on the basis of the best and most appropriate home for the animal, not on a first come, first served basis. On site adoption available to pre-approved applicants only.   Adoption fees go towards vaccines, heartworm prevention/testing, flea/tick prevention, spay/neuter and other medical problems that may arise.   MMAR is an all volunteer, foster based, 501 (c) 3, non profit organization. Without your donation, wonderful pets like these have to be passed by because we cannot afford their care.   If you would like to donate please send donation to: MMAR Box 180155 Utica, MI 48318   Donate online at https://www.sanilacscoopers.org/   Please email us at mmarpaws@gmail.com for additional information or to set up special appointments May 28, 2026, 8:09 pm
