Meet Ben: Certified Hug Expert! Ben is proof that sometimes all a dog needs is someone willing to see their potential. Ben is a Poodle mix (possibly with lab) who is around 3 years old and 70 pounds. He's house trained, kennel trained, up to date on vaccines, heartworm negative, will be microchipped, and neuter scheduled. Ben has an enormous heart and so much love to give. His favorite thing in the world is being close to his people, especially if it means giving one of his signature gentle hugs. He's incredibly affectionate with goofy, enthusiastic energy and does wonderfully with other dogs - he's very tolerant and enjoys canine companionship. Before coming into our care, Ben had a difficult start to life... He was underweight, suffering from significant skin and coat issues, and desperately in need of medical care and compassion. His coat is starting to recover, and every day he looks and feels a little more like the dog he was always meant to be. Prior to us, Ben was unfortunately recommended for behavioral euthanasia. Thankfully, our trainer saw the dog Ben truly was beneath everything he'd been through. Given time to decompress with structure and guidance, Ben has shown just how eager he is to learn and how deeply he wants to connect with people. Meet Rosco! Rosco is an adorable 8-month-old Minature Poodle mix with a slightly taller stature than your typical Minature Poodle and a heart as big as his personality! This sweet fella was found as an emaciated stray wandering the streets of Detroit, severely underweight and with a coat so terribly matted that he had to be completely shaved down. Despite the hardships he has endured in his short life, Rosco hasn't let his past diminish his love for people or his happy, affectionate spirit! When Rosco first entered our care, he weighed a heartbreaking 11 pounds. With proper nutrition, love, and care, he gained more than 10 pounds in less than a month, bringing him to a much healthier 22 pounds! It's amazing what a little TLC can do! Rosco is an incredibly sweet and gentle boy who absolutely adores people, especially children! He loves spending time with his humans and has some serious Velcro-dog tendencies. Wherever his people are, that's exactly where Rosco wants to be! He's happiest when he's included in the family's everyday activities and soaking up all the love and attention he missed out on. Although Rosco has experienced more than any puppy should, he's still very much a playful, happy youngster! He enjoys going for walks, playing with toys, and romping around with other dogs. He has also done well around cats and has developed a great understanding of house manners. This smart little fella is eager to learn and has so much potential! Not surprisingly, after nearly starving, Rosco LOVES his food! He is extremely food motivated, which makes training a breeze, although he can occasionally be a little overzealous when accepting treats. Can you blame him? This big, lovable guy was surrendered when his owner moved to a condo and could no longer provide the space and care he needed. Now Stuart is searching for a new family with the experience, patience, and commitment to love him furever! Stuart is an affectionate, playful boy who loves attention and enjoys meeting new people. He enjoys playing with toys, fetching, going for car rides, and spending time with his family. He is also a loyal companion and attentive watchdog who will alert his people when something unusual is happening. Now, let's talk about Stuart's BIG personality—and his even BIGGER appetite! Stuart is a self-proclaimed food enthusiast who takes his love of snacks to a whole new level! This handsome fella is an accomplished counter surfer and dumpster diver, and he has absolutely no shame when it comes to helping himself to anything he considers edible. Kitchen counters, unattended meals, and unsecured trash cans are all fair game in Stuart's world! His future family must be diligent about keeping food out of reach, securing garbage, and maintaining consistent household boundaries. Stuart can become overly enthusiastic and possessive when food is involved, particularly when he believes something delicious belongs to him. He may become defensive if someone attempts to take food away, so his future family must understand the importance of safely managing food-related situations. Stuart will require firm, consistent boundaries, confident handling, and continued training using positive reinforcement to help him develop better impulse control and appropriate food manners. His size and determination make this especially important, and his food-related behaviors should not be underestimated. For these reasons, Stuart is looking for a home without young children that don't understand that they are merely just a treat dispenser for dogs. Older, mature, dog-savvy children who understand canine boundaries may be considered. Stuart is a strong boy who pulls on the leash, which he has been working on, so his future home should have a securely fenced physical yard where he can safely exercise or an owner physically capable of managing 100 pounds of enthusiasm.
