We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!

Story
Meet Gary!If you`re looking for a dog who can bring a smile to your face every day, Gary may be your perfect match! At approximately 1½ years old, Gary is a fun-loving, goofy guy who is always ready for his next adventure. We believe he may be a Poodle mix, though he might have a little hound dog in him too—especially when he gets his nose to the ground or lets out an occasional howl to share his thoughts with the world!Gary is a happy, playful dog with a zest for life. One of his favorite things is water. Whether it`s splashing in a kiddie pool, chasing water from the garden hose, or running through a sprinkler, Gary is always ready to make a splash. If your family enjoys spending time outdoors, Gary will be right there beside you having the time of his life.Despite his playful energy, Gary has a sweet and affectionate side. He loves being close to his people and will happily lean against your leg while soaking up head scratches and attention. He`s the kind of dog who enjoys both adventure and companionship.Gary walks nicely on leash and keeps his kennel clean, showing that he`s a well-mannered young gentleman. He would make a wonderful family dog and is expected to do well with children over 10 years old who can match his enthusiasm and energy level. If you`re looking for a loyal sidekick who can make you laugh, join you on adventures, and shower you with affection, Gary is ready to meet you!

Story
Meet Teddy! Teddy and Buster came together from the same home. They were surrendered by their family to another shelter that was getting over-crowded. They are currently separate and doing well, so they do not need to be adopted together. But they are familiar with each other and do well with each other so we would also adopt them together. Teddy is about 3 years old. Our best guess for breed is a doodle. He had a very matted thick curly coat which we did shave down to give him a fresh start! Teddy is very eager to please and playful. He has a lot of energy and sometimes can be mouthy when excited, but not in a mean way. He would benefit from obedience training and a family that can give him proper exercise and play.  We are still working on introducing them to other dogs. We have not yet cat tested them. An approved adoption application is required. The $250 adoption fee (payable by cash or check only) includes spay/neuter; microchip; dental teeth cleaning (if needed prior to adoption); vaccinations; heartworm and tick disease testing; fecal w/ giardia testing, monthly heartworm and flea and tick prevention . Our adoption application may be found by going to: www.headinhomerescue.org; then click on the link to the adoption application. Dogs for adoption may be seen by appointment only following an approved application. Proof of completion of an obedience class is required for all dogs following adoption. Please note: while we welcome out of state applications, we do not ship our animals and require adopters to come to Holland to finalize any adoption.May 30, 2026, 11:22 am
