Name: Chloe Best Guess for Breed: Schnauzer mix Best Guess for Age: 1 year as of November 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 28 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: Puerto Rico shelter - needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Chloe would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes. Heartworm information: Chloe is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but landed in a place where heartworm treatment is provided! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! The three of us - Chloe, Layka, and Luna - have had a great time growing together in Puerto Rico. We look so alike that we've pulled off the switcheroo trick often! But now we're ready to split up and get our own humans in the DC area. This is what we are looking for: Sniffy walks, romps, all the adventures our families can dream up, and lots of snuggles! Coat maintenance is important to us too - daily brushing, please, to make sure we don't get all matted. But you know what I want most of all? To be safe and loved, to know where I belong.
