* To be considered for a meet/adoption, please read the full biography to see whether they may be a good fit for your home, then submit an online application at www.dpsrescue.org.* This dog will be at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express on Saturday, August 8th from 12–3 PM (unless adopted prior to the event). All DPS Rescue dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea/tick treated, and microchipped prior to adoption. Adoption fee: $750 Groupon: A Little Guy with a Big Heart Some dogs are happiest chasing tennis balls. Others are happiest curled up in your lap all day. Groupon has a different calling altogether— he prefers to keep watch over his favorite people. As a 2-3 year old Tibetan Spaniel mix, he's following a tradition that goes back centuries, when his ancestors served as devoted companions and watchful little guardians in the monasteries of Tibet. At just 14 pounds, Groupon takes his job just as seriously...while looking absolutely adorable doing it. With his gorgeous, soft coat, bright eyes, and joyful personality, Groupon is the kind of dog who quickly becomes part of the family. He loves being close to his people and always wants to know what everyone is doing. While he'll happily hop into your lap for a few pets, he's more likely to choose a cozy spot on the floor where he can keep an eye on as many family members as possible. He likes to be involved without being clingy— a wonderful balance for someone looking for an affectionate but independent companion. A Typical Day with Groupon Groupon sleeps peacefully through the night in a pen set up in his foster's bedroom. His one request? Don't make him sleep alone! He enjoys being near his people and settles beautifully when he knows they're close by. He seems perfectly happy snoozing on the floor and may very well choose that over the bed. His mornings begin with breakfast, followed by hopes that every trip into the kitchen might involve another snack. He's enthusiastic whenever food is being prepared but is wonderfully polite and doesn't beg while you're eating. Dinner is served around 6 p.m., and he's always ready right on schedule. One of Groupon's favorite activities is going for walks. He's an excellent leash companion who stays right by your side and enjoys exploring the neighborhood with you. He may give a little bark if a larger dog gets too close, but he's easy to manage and doesn't create any real challenges. Playtime Makes Him Shine When Groupon gets the zoomies, prepare to smile. He'll race around the house with joyful enthusiasm, grabbing every soft toy, plush bed, or fuzzy object he can find for an energetic game of rag-doll shakes and tiny 'ferocious' growls. It's all part of his playful routine, and despite the dramatic performance, he's never destructive. His favorite game is tug with a plush toy. He'll happily fetch it back to you, then playfully growl as you try to take it away— it's simply his version of fun. He also enjoys an occasional bully stick but has little interest in balls or traditional chew toys. He's also a polite little gentleman who sits nicely for treats and meals and has become a calm passenger in the car, settling in nicely for rides. Loyal, Loving, and Always on Duty Groupon is incredibly devoted to his family. He notices everything happening around the house and is always ready to alert you if someone knocks at the door or if an unfamiliar sound catches his attention. When he wants your attention for some play time or pets, he has an entertaining collection of adorable little vocalizations that are guaranteed to make you laugh. The Home That's Right for Groupon Like many dogs who become deeply attached to their people, Groupon isn't a fan of being left behind. He'll bark and cry initially when his family leaves but settles down after a little while. He's very comfortable in his crate and does well when safely confined while you're away. Groupon is housetrained but currently has a tendency to mark indoors, particularly if left loose in the home when his people are gone (please note that this bio is written prior to him being neutered; once neutered this behavior will likely resolve quickly!) Keeping him in a crate or exercise pen while you're out has been a successful management strategy. If you're looking for a loyal little shadow who will make you laugh with his dramatic zoomies, warm your heart with his devotion, and faithfully supervise every moment of family life, Groupon may be exactly the companion you've been searching for.
