Story
Pet Location: Wayside Waifs Campus My Friends at Wayside say: - I like to follow my nose wherever I go!- I`ve successfully lived with cats in my previous home!- During my time at Wayside, I have enjoyed being around other dogs.-My previous owner said that I am house-trained and crate-trained. My home needs are:- Wayside recommends bringing your children 9 years old and younger out to meet me before adoption since I can be nervous around new people and loud noises. Hi there, I’m Scout!I’m a handsome 3-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound with a heart full of adventure and a nose that never takes a day off! If you’re looking for a loyal, polite, and easy-going companion who’s equal parts independent explorer and cuddly buddy, you just might be looking for me.I’m what people like to call a `mature gentleman,” I’ve got some life experience under my collar, but I still love to play, explore, and enjoy the finer things in life (like a good toy or a scenic hike). I’m fully crate trained and I love watching TV, especially if there are animals on the screen. I’ll happily sit beside you for some screen time, head scratches, and quiet company. That said, I’m not the clingy type. I like my space, too. I’ll cuddle when the mood strikes, but I’m also content to do my own thing, especially if there are new smells to follow. True to my hound nature, my nose is my guide, so don’t be surprised if I’m off in the yard or on a trail with my sniffer to the ground, tail wagging, fully immersed in the scent of the world.I’m also polite with other dogs and enjoy having dog friends to romp and play with. I know how to have fun but I never get too rowdy, just enough to keep life interesting! Whether it`s a game of tug, a squeaky toy session, or a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood, I`m down for it all. Walks, hikes, yard time, or even just sniffing around the block, count me in.Even though I’m more aloof than needy, I truly enjoy being near my people. I’m that calm presence in the room who makes everything feel a little more grounded. I might not demand constant attention, but I’ll be there, steady, sweet, and quietly devoted. If you’re looking for a calm but playful companion who’s past the puppy chaos but still has plenty of energy for outdoor adventures and indoor snuggles, I might just be your guy. I’m ready to find my forever home where I can explore, relax, and be loved,

These pups are in Lenexa, Kansas too!

Story
A Soulful Heart and Floppy Ears: Meet Chief Chief is a gentle 20 lb Beagle mix who came to us from a hoarding situation in rural Missouri. At 1 year old, he is still learning what it means to live in a home, but his sweet nature shines through every day. He has a quiet, soulful presence and is looking for a patient family to help him continue his journey. Personality and Connection Chief is a sensitive boy who truly wants to be near his people. While he is still learning how to snuggle and initiate affection, he relaxes once you hold him. It’s his silent way of showing he finally feels safe and just wants to be loved. One of his most adorable features is his ears; they are constantly floppy or flipping upside down, perfectly matching his endearing personality. He is a work in progress who just needs a little more time to fully come out of his shell. Training and Progress He is an incredibly smart learner who is making great strides in his daily routine. He is learning to walk on a leash, though loud noises can still be startling. A fenced-in backyard is a must for him so he has a secure place to play and go potty while he builds his confidence. Because of his history, Chief is still mastering potty training and can have occasional accidents indoors. He may whimper a bit at night as he adjusts to his new space, but because he is so bright, these moments don't last long once he realizes he is safe. He needs a family that will offer gentle guidance and consistency as he settles in. Social Life and Play When he isn’t observing his surroundings, Chief is a fan of chew toys and bully sticks, which are a great way to keep him happily occupied and calm. He is very social and loves the company of other dogs. He has a playful, puppy-like energy but is naturally respectful and submissive around others. He finds a lot of confidence by following the lead of other dogs, so a home with a calm, friendly canine companion would be the best fit for him. The Ideal Match Chief would do best in a quiet, low-traffic household with a predictable routine. Because he is still finding his footing, a home with small children would likely be too overwhelming for him; he would prefer an adult-only home or one with older, calm teenagers. He would be a perfect match for someone who works from home or a retired couple who can be present to give him the reassurance and frequent potty breaks he needs. With a little time and a lot of love, Chief will be a deeply devoted companion. He just needs someone patient to give him that chance. ----------------------------------------- If you’re interested in adopting, please apply online at mscrescue.org/adopt.
