Story
Noodle, 10 years old, neutered male, Tennessee Treeing Brindle mix, 45 pounds. He's in a foster home in Houston, Texas and able to transport to an adopter once approved. Noodle was saved from euthanasia at the county shelter in Houston.
If your idea of the perfect dog is one who doesn’t need constant entertainment, long hikes, or a packed social calendar, allow us to introduce you to Noodle.
Noodle is a sweet, low-key senior gentleman who has mastered the art of taking life easy. His ideal day involves a little time outside, a comfortable bed or couch, some good food, a few pets, and plenty of naps. Honestly, Noodle doesn’t ask for much—and that’s exactly what makes him so special.
Noodle is wonderfully easygoing with other dogs. He isn’t particularly interested in playing and would much rather coexist peacefully than wrestle or chase. He may give another dog a quick sniff before going back to whatever important business he was doing (usually napping). He has lived with dogs ranging from about 11 to 60 pounds and is incredibly patient, even when younger dogs try to convince him that he really should participate in their shenanigans. He would be perfectly happy as an only dog or living with calm, respectful canine roommates.
Because Noodle is hard of hearing, his family will need to be mindful that he may not hear subtle vocal cues from people or other dogs. He does an excellent job navigating the world despite his hearing loss, but approaching him where he can see you and supervising around dogs during mealtimes are good ways to help him feel safe and successful.
Noodle is also a very trustworthy housemate. He is mostly house-trained and does a great job letting his people know when he needs to go outside with his adorable, soft little bark. As a senior, he needs more frequent potty breaks than a younger dog, and an extra trip outside before bedtime or before leaving the house can help prevent accidents. When left alone, Noodle can free-roam the house without getting into trouble. He isn't destructive, doesn't have separation anxiety, and according to the house cameras, his main activity while everyone is gone is... sleeping.
He is calm on leash and does well around other dogs, although he isn't looking for a marathon walking partner. A leisurely stroll here and there for enrichment is plenty for this low-energy guy. He also rides wonderfully in the car.
Noodle isn't a dog who demands attention, but he absolutely enjoys affection when it's offered. He may not constantly seek out cuddles, but he'll happily accept pets, scratches, and snuggles. And when he decides he'd like to sleep in the bedroom, he'll quietly stand at the hallway gate waiting for an invitation. Once he's in bed, he'll usually find a human limb to use as a pillow. A foot? Perfectly acceptable. An arm? Also good. Noodle isn't picky.
He occasionally has a brief burst of interest in a toy or Benebone, but his true passion is relaxing. He enjoys lounging in the yard when the weather is nice, especially if he can soak up some sunshine. And if you take too long letting him back inside, you may hear his signature little “Noodle howl” reminding you that he'd like to return to the air conditioning, thank you very much.
Noodle can navigate stairs, although he may occasionally slip on smooth floors, so some non-slip rugs or runners would help give his older legs a little extra traction.
Noodle is looking for a peaceful place to spend his retirement with someone who appreciates the wonderful qualities of a senior dog. He doesn't need an active household or hours of exercise. He simply wants a comfortable place to relax, people who will give him some affection, and a family willing to accommodate the few things that come with being an older gentleman.
He can live with other dogs, but he doesn't need a canine companion. Calm dogs who respect his personal space would probably be his favorite roommates, but Noodle would also be perfectly content being your one and only.
Noodle is the kind of dog who quietly settles into your life rather than demanding to be the center of it. He's gentle, independent, trustworthy, affectionate in his own understated way, and remarkably easy to have around.
All Noodle really wants is a soft place to land.
And maybe a foot to use as a pillow.
Please note our process starts with an application. If we think you might be a good fit, we will reach out to coordinate a phone interview. This is followed by a video call with the foster home. Virtual home visit, personal and vet reference checks are required to complete the process. Transport is included in our adoption donation.
