Story
Meet Geneva! A spirited nine-and-a-half-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound currently in Kensington, MD, whose essence is a blend of gentle charm and outdoor adventure, wrapped in a beautiful tricolor coat. Geneva is the perfect paradox: indoors, she’s the queen of calm, curling up in classic hound fashion for hours of peaceful napping, whether in a cozy ball or stretched out like a blissful snoozing pig. But once the front door opens? She's ready to hit the trail with unshakable enthusiasm! From neighborhood strolls and spirited park romps to ogling guinea pigs at PetSmart and making joyful splashes at the doggy beach, Geneva thrives in the company of her people on any adventure. At 53 pounds, she’s a medium-sized bundle of joy with perceptive brown eyes, ears that fan out with curiosity, and a personality that draws you in immediately. Her caregivers often say she’s ageless in spirit, so much so that when someone guessed she was seven months instead of seven years, they weren’t entirely wrong about her energy! She still loves chasing toys, dashing around the yard, and showing off her "sit," "shake," and "wait" skills. Geneva is house-trained, spayed, microchipped, and bravely managing a thyroid condition with a simple twice-daily medication she takes during meals. She's incredibly intuitive, she knows when it’s dinner time just by the sound of a laptop closing and an office lamp clicking off. Thunderstorms and toddler energy aren’t her favorite things, and she’s shown some anxiety in those situations, including mild nipping when feeling overwhelmed around little ones. Because of that, Geneva would be most comfortable in a family without young children or with kids over the age of five. She’s selective with dog companions and would thrive as the only pet or with slow introductions to calm, smaller dogs. She isn’t compatible with cats or small animals due to her strong prey drive but she is endlessly loving with teens and adults, offering her quiet companionship and goofy antics in equal measure. Geneva is ready for her next chapter with a family who values peaceful evenings, playful weekends, and the kind of loyal friendship only a hound like her can offer. Could that be you? Story
Meet Rey! A thoughtful almost five-year-old Treeing Walker Coonhound mix currently living in Medford, MA, whose heart beats strongest for bacon-scented fetch balls, cozy naps, and training games that come with tasty rewards. With her striking black and fawn coat and expressive eyes that light up for treats, Rey is both clever and loyal! She’s house-trained, crate-trained, and knows an impressive list of commands like “sit,” “stay,” “heel,” “touch,” and even “hold,” where she’ll patiently balance a treat on her nose. Walks around the neighborhood and treat-dispensing puzzle toys are some of her favorite ways to spend the day, and she’s happiest when life follows a calm, predictable routine. Rey is currently taking daily fluoxetine to support her anxiety, and with consistent training and structure, she’s made incredible progress! Her anxiety tends to show up around unfamiliar people and dogs who approach her with interest, and while she can settle quickly when left alone, she needs help managing greetings and space boundaries. Her current caregivers use leash management, positive reinforcement, and distance-based games to help her feel secure during new encounters. It’s important to note that Rey has a bite history. In past situations where she felt startled or overwhelmed—such as when someone disturbed her while she was sleeping or tried to take food—she has reacted defensively and bitten. These incidents were not unprovoked and did not require medical attention, and her signals when uncomfortable are easy to spot with experience. For this reason, Rey is not suitable for homes with children or other pets. She’s best suited for a quiet, structured environment with a caregiver who has experience working with anxious or reactive dogs. Despite her challenges, Rey is deeply connected to her people and incredibly responsive to training. She’s not high-energy, but she’s engaged and eager to learn when motivated by food and trust. We’re including a full month of behavioral guidance from our consultant to help Rey settle in. Her new family will have compassionate support every step of the way to feel confident, connected, and at home. Could your steady, pet-free home be the space where Rey can thrive with calm leadership and loving patience?
