Story
Meet Elmer! He’s a quiet soul, has a gentle heart and is a loyal companion in the making! Elmer is the kind of dog who doesn’t ask for much, just a soft place to land, a kind voice to guide him, and a little time to show you just how special he really is. At first glance, he might seem reserved, but once he knows he’s safe, Elmer reveals his true gift: deep, devoted companionship!
We believe Elmer is a Basset mix of some sort around 2 years old, and weighs approximately 30 pounds! His coat shows that he may have some Border Collie in him as well! Due to him being a rescue, age and breed are our best guesses and cannot be guaranteed! But he is sure to melt your heart regardless of the DNA results!

On leash, he’s a dream! He's responsive, easygoing, and always looking to his person for direction. A simple “let’s go” is all he needs. He follows with trust in his eyes and a little pep in his step. He prefers a quieter world, one where he can settle in at his own pace without the hustle and noise of city life. A calm home, apartment or house, would be perfect for him! Especially if it comes with a cozy spot near your feet.
When we had him out with some of the dogs at our property, he did great! We had large excitable puppies and more chill puppies out in the yard with him. We saw that Elmer does well with other calm dogs who respect his space and let him open up in his own time. He’s not the type to jump right into play, but he’ll gladly share company with a doggy friend once he feels at ease. He even shared a kennel peacefully during transport and would likely enjoy having a gentle medium energy buddy to lounge with in his forever home. He’s also open to coexisting with a respectful, quiet cat! He met Biggie, our house cat, and just tried to avoid any conflict with him! What a respectful pooch! But he also has the personality to be your one and only pet!
He hasn’t spent time around children, but he loved being around the humans! He has a sweet, soft demeanor that makes him a great candidate for a home with older, dog-savvy kids who understand how to move slowly and kindly. If there is a certain age that you are curious how Elmer behaves around, let us know and we would be happy to find out for you! We want to make sure he is perfect for your family!
Once Elmer decides you’re his person, you’ll have a best friend for life. He’ll be the one following you from room to room, offering quiet company and gentle affection, content just to be near you. He may start shy, but when he sticks, he sticks. Just like glue! If you’re the kind of person who appreciates the beauty of a slow bloom and wants a companion who will love you quietly but completely, Elmer is ready to meet you!
Does Elmer seem like the boy for you?

https://g.co/kgs/UQ5Pyai We care deeply about making the perfect match between dog and family for long term success.
Our rescue has a 2 acre property in Texas where we assess every animal with trainers on staff, we modify behavior as needed, and create individualized behavior plans to help prepare dogs for their future families including crate training, potty training, leash walking, etc. Our fosters are able to attend group trainings and socialization play groups to keep dogs adoption-ready. Our on-site trainers support the positive growth of our dogs and we enjoy seeing their progress!
Our commitment to comprehensive medical care sets us apart. We've received glowing feedback from veterinarians who commend our dedication to ensuring the health and well-being of every animal in our care with treatments that often go above and beyond.
Our adoption fees reflect the extensive care and resources that go into each animal we save. The adoption fee is a donation to the mission and goes far beyond getting a fully vetted pet.
The rescue’s hard costs alone for a healthy dog to go through our program typically range between $412 to $859, which includes boarding, food, medications, vaccines, and spay/neuter. For heartworm-positive dogs, hard costs are upwards of $1,120. Additionally, dogs requiring extended boarding, extra training, or extra medical care—such as dental work, vision care, or orthopedic care—can lead to expenses running into the thousands. Also, included in the fee are costs to cover transport up to the Pacific Northwest or East Coast. While adoption fees help cover part of these expenses, we want to emphasize that Three Little Pitties Rescue is not government funded.
It doesn’t stop there! Our adopters also receive these SPECIAL PERKS:

Did you know that the Greater Houston area faces some of the highest stray and overpopulation rates in the nation? We are a non profit charity. Our goal is simple— to reduce the homeless pet population through community outreach, free spay and neuter services, and by rescuing animals from the streets or overcrowded shelters where euthanasia due to lack of space is often the only option. The dog you've found online is not only lucky to be in our program, but also incredibly fortunate to have caught your eye. Thank you for considering adoption and for joining us in our mission!
Follow our rescue journey and connect with us on our website and social media platforms. Together, we can make a difference, one adoption at a time.
