He has a stunning milk chocolate colored coat and a lean, sportive physique. He is great with other dogs, walks well on the leash and does well in the crate. He does well with cats in general but can chase if they are skittish so only cats who are well adjusted and used to being around dogs. He is a great boy who faced euthanasia along with his brother simply for being out of time. He is currently still in Oklahoma where he was rescued but he can only be adopted out of state where people treat animals well. He has to be prepaid and picked up directly from transport at one of our transport drop off locations below. If things don't work out for some reason, which rarely ever happens, we will either find a local foster to take him in or he will go back to Oklahoma on our next transport until a new home is found. Rufus is a strikingly handsome chocolate-colored dog with a sleek, low-shedding coat and captivating honey eyes.  He was born on 9/29/18 and about 60 pounds. He is a gentle soul and tender-hearted love bug at his core.   He's an active dog who would do best as a solo dog in the household. No cats please. He knows basic commands like sit, stay, and lay down, and rides well in the car. While his leash manners are usually excellent, he can get overly excited and pull if he spots a bunny or squirrel.  He's an adventurous pup who would make an amazing hiking, running, or biking companion for an active family or individual.   Rufus has undergone extensive training, and his new family can take advantage of a free session to learn the best techniques for managing his energy. Hi, I'm Stella! I'm a sweet girl that was found as a stray. I'm currently in a foster home awaiting my chance at a forever home! I look to be some Terrier maybe Viszla mix, but who knows.  If you're interested in adopting me, fill out an adoption application online at www.polkcountyhumanesociety.org/adopt where you will also find a link to reserve me for an appointment. Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! Harley is a 4 yr old female GSP mixed. She is very energetic and loves attention. We moved from a home with land into an apartment & she needs more room to run and play. She is a bit aggressive with certain types of dogs but she loves to run and hunt. Hoping she can be rehoused to someone who has land and can be active with her.
