Story
Courage is a healthy, housetrained, 6-year-old, 30-pound Whippet/Beagle mix. A Wheagle? A Bippet? Adopt her and you decide! She arrived with a different name, but it didn't fit. She seemed to shrink when she heard it, as though someone had used it unkindly. So we named her Courage. And she wears that name like she earned it.When you approach, Courage crouches low, as though expecting a blow. But she WANTS you to come closer. She WANTS it to go well. Her tail gives her away, wagging so enthusiastically it's practically a blur. She's gentle, affectionate, and beautifully mannered. But once she's comfortable, another side of her personality emerges: the WHIPPET! All that sweetness... now traveling at approximately 90 miles per hour.Suddenly, she's a zippy, zoomy, four-legged projectile with a mission: CHASE. CATCH. VANQUISH. She'd love a good game of fetch or a flirt pole, and a lure course might be her idea of paradise. Expect her to present you proudly with the deflated remains of a tennis ball or a squeaky toy that had it coming.Courage needs to be your one and only. Her enthusiasm for chasing things is not met enthusiastically by other pets. Here's how Courage came to us: Her people could no longer care for her and brought her to a veterinarian to be euthanized. Thankfully, the veterinarian called Animal Aid Society instead. We don't know what taught Courage to flinch, but she hasn't given up on people. Her tail still wags, her trust is growing, and her preferred speed is full-throttle. Courage has already had one narrow escape. Now she needs a home where she can stop bracing for the worst and get on with the important business of being a dog. Come show Courage that her courage is worth it at Animal Aid Society, 80 Butler Farm Road, Hampton, VA. Visiting hours are 9am to noon, daily, including weekends & holidays.Interested? Come for a visit any day of the week - 365 days a year between 9am - 12pm.
