Story
PWRESCUE.ORG *PHOENIX METRO AREA ONLY* Meet Jilly — A Sweet, Shy Little Terrier With a Big Heart! Jilly is a 1½-year-old, 22-pound terrier mix (likely Parson Russell Terrier/Wire-Haired Fox Terrier) who came to our rescue when her previous owner could no longer care for her. She’s a gentle, sweet girl with a soft spirit and a quiet, cautious way of taking in the world. Jilly is shy and sensitive, and she needs time, patience, and consistency to feel safe. New people and environments can be overwhelming for her, so building trust will be a gradual process—not something that happens overnight. But for someone willing to go at her pace, the reward is truly special. As she begins to feel secure, her affectionate and tender personality starts to shine through. Jilly is not a “turn-key” dog—she’s what we lovingly call a “project” pup. She will need an adopter who understands that her confidence will grow slowly with gentle encouragement and positive experiences. Right now, when she feels unsure, she may “pancake” (freeze) or try to retreat, so she’ll need patient guidance to help her navigate new situations. One thing that really helps Jilly blossom is the presence of another dog. She takes comfort in canine companionship and will require a home with a calm, confident dog who can help guide her and show her that the world isn’t so scary. She gets along beautifully with other dogs, especially those with a gentle, easygoing play style. A secure, fenced yard is also important so she can explore and decompress safely. And despite her shy nature, Jilly has an adorable, playful side—she’s a little collector! Shoes and small “treasures” may mysteriously disappear, only to be found tucked into her bed. It’s a sweet glimpse of the curious puppy she’s becoming. Jilly would thrive in a calm, patient home that values kindness, routine, and understanding. With time and love, she will continue to gain confidence and grow into a devoted, loving companion. If you have a gentle heart and the patience to help a shy dog feel safe, Jilly may be the perfect match for you. Jilly is up to date on vaccinations, spayed and microchipped.    If you are interested in this sweetheart, please visit our website at:  https://pwrescue.org and click on the "Adoption Application" button to complete an application.  Pathways Home Animal Rescue August 6, 2026, 12:34 pm

Story
Meet Ita!  Ita is a tiny but mighty Wiredhair Terrier. Ita is extremely smart and picks up on cues quickly. She watches you for guidance and thrives on praise. She loves tummy rubs and cuddles. It is funny to watch her pounce after flying bugs in the backyard as well as run and leap.  Ita plays tug of war with her toys and chases her ball. Ita plays hard then rests like a little angel cuddled in her bed. Ita gets excited for her morning walk and struts with confidence through the neighborhood. She walks well on a leash and keeps up with the pace of other dogs. As she walks, she observes her surroundings and makes protective growls/barks. She has made a great deal of progress in minimizing her barking when visitor enter the house.  In addition, Ita is responding well to the cue of a training clicker and the following commands: sit, drop it, down, and out (to keep her out of the busy section of the kitchen). Ita is working hard at getting potty trained, and knows she is typically given a treat when she goes on the grass. In case you forget, she will enter the home and point you towards the treat jar.  Ita and her sister, Gigi, enjoy each other, play well together, and keep each other company. Watching them wrestle and chase after each other is extremely entertaining, and I can’t imagine them not being together.  We have a larger female dog, and both Ita and Gigi get along well with her. It is our hope to home them together as a bonded pair. If interested please fill out an adoption application on valleydogs.org or email the following contact: adopt@valleydogs.org (Adoption fee is 500 for both dogs)

Story
My Personality : Playful, Curious, Goofy Meet Gigi! Gigi is a beautiful Wiredhair Terrier who is playful and entertaining. She loves to play with her toys and especially attends to finding and chasing her ball. Her playful nature is fun to watch, as she runs and leaps in the backyard and collect sticks. When she finishes playing, she enjoys a good snuggle nap in her bed. Even when she sleeps, she is fun to watch. Gigi enjoys her morning walks and sniffing around. She walks nicely on a leash and is excited when she sees you take out the leash. She enjoys a cuddle hug and tummy rubs. She is learning these basic commands: drop it, sit, and out (to stay out of the busy kitchen area). She responds well to a clicker for training as well as mini treats. She is working hard at getting potty trained and enjoys the praise when she goes outside on the grass. Gigi and her sister, Ita, enjoy each other, play well together, and keep each other company. Watching them wrestle and chase after each other is extremely entertaining, and I can’t imagine them not being together. We have a larger female dog, and both Gigi and Ita get along well with her. Story
‼️🚨URGENT: Foster needed for Heidi 🚨‼️ Born 7/6/25, Heidi is a beautiful brindle Wire Terrier / Shepherd mix with a mellow, thoughtful personality. She’s the kind of dog who prefers observing the world from a cozy spot rather than being in the middle of the chaos. Calm, curious, and independent, she’s been taking life one small step at a time as she learns about the world around her. Heidi is happiest when she has a comfortable place to relax while her people go about their day. She enjoys watching, learning routines, and slowly gaining confidence in her surroundings. 🛋️🐾 She already has an impressive list of skills: 🚪 Fully potty trained and uses the doggy door independently 🛏️ Sleeps through the night and knows “go to bed” for her crate 🐾 Understands “go outside” and even “walk” 🍖 Food motivated and eager to learn 🏡 Safe to leave out in a tidy space — she isn’t destructive when alone Heidi is also a polite eater who prefers grazing from an auto-feeder and regulates her food well without guarding or overeating. Bath time may not be her favorite activity, but she handled it calmly and politely like a little lady. 🛁 She enjoys playing in the backyard, especially in the mornings after coming out of her crate. Right now she prefers yard time over walks, though that may change as her confidence continues to grow. Heidi does well with other dogs and coexists peacefully. When guests visited the home, she chose to relax quietly in her open crate — her safe space — rather than join the excitement. It’s a perfect example of her gentle, independent nature. Her ideal home will be patient and understanding, giving her time to settle in and feel safe. Dogs like Heidi often form incredibly deep bonds once they trust their people, becoming loyal companions who truly appreciate their home. She doesn’t need a loud or busy household — just a steady, loving place where she can relax, feel secure, and let her sweet personality shine in her own time. 🌸🐾 If you’re looking for a calm, thoughtful companion who will quietly become part of your heart and home, Heidi might be the perfect match. 🏠 Interested in fostering?
