Story
Meet Barbie! This adorable little scruffy girl is just 17 pounds of brindle cuteness. With her wiry coat, sweet face, and gentle personality, she's sure to steal someone's heart. If you love those cute, scruffy, wire-haired dogs, you're going to love her!
Barbie is a little shy when first meeting new people, but don't let that fool you. A little baby talk goes a long way with this girl, and before you know it, she's handing out kisses! She's the kind of dog who just needs someone to make her feel comfortable and show her that she's safe. Once she warms up, you'll get to enjoy all the sweetness she has to offer.
Barbie came to Anderson Humane from our partner shelter in Oklahoma. Unfortunately, when she arrived, she tested positive for heartworm. But that doesn't change what a wonderful little dog she is or how deserving she is of a loving home!
We know that the best place for dogs going through heartworm treatment is often a loving home where they can relax and recover. If you adopt Barbie, our clinic team will be there to guide you through the process, answer questions, and provide support every step of the way.
Treatment generally takes about three months, with some simple at-home care and activity restrictions to help her stay safe. A follow-up test is performed six months after treatment begins. Heartworm is transmitted through mosquito bites, not through casual contact with other pets or people.
This little girl has already been through a lot, and she's ready for her next chapter. She's only 17 pounds, but she's got plenty of love packed into that little scruffy body. All she needs is someone willing to give her a chance, a cozy place to land, and maybe a little baby talk (and plenty of opportunities to give kisses)!
Stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you.
All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.
