Story
Hoobie Shoobie looks like someone took a tiny low-rider dachshund body, added little terrier legs, sprinkled on the most ridiculous golden wirehaired locks, and said, “perfect, no notes.” This little guy is seriously SO cute it almost feels unfair. He has that long body, short little legs, scruffy golden hair, and the kind of sweet shy face that makes you immediately want to scoop him up and tell him he is the handsomest little gentleman in the world. And once Hoobie decides he can trust you? Oh it’s over. He turns into a cuddly little lap donut, rolls over for belly rubs, sticks one front paw straight up in the air like he’s politely requesting affection, and suddenly your heart belongs to a scruffy little prince.

Hoobie Shoobie is believed to be a Wirehaired Terrier/Dachshund mix approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 17 lbs. He is a rescue dog and with any rescue, it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. What we can say is that whatever genetic combo created this boy absolutely nailed it because he has the best of everything. The long dachshund body, the little legs, the gorgeous golden wirehaired coat, and the sweetest little personality tucked underneath all that scruff.
Hoobie is a very sweet and cuddly little guy once he gets comfortable. He can be a shy guy at first with new people and in new environments, so he will need a little time to acclimate and realize he’s safe. But once he loves you, he LOVES you. He’ll crawl into your lap, curl up into his little donut shape, roll over for belly rubs, and happily soak up all the affection you’re willing to give him. He is quiet, gentle, affectionate, and just has such a happy little homebody personality once he opens up.
With other dogs, Hoobie has done really well and has been around dogs his size as well as dogs three times his size. When he first arrived in his foster home, it took him about a day to get to know the other dogs, and before long he was snuggling with his foster and her husband right alongside the rest of the pack like he had always been part of the family. Hoobie shares affection well and has also done fine with toys around other dogs. He hasn’t been super interested in the toys himself, but had no issue with other dogs grabbing toys right in front of him. He does like to play with other dogs too, but he’s not the type that wants to play 24/7. We think he would do amazing in a home with another medium-energy dog that enjoys a little playtime but also knows how to relax and hang out.
He has also met our house cat Biggie and met him appropriately and was very respectful around him. He did not chase Biggie, nor was he bothered by Biggie jumping or doing what cats do. Biggie also seemed to feel comfortable around him as well. We do not know if he has ever lived in a home before with a cat and this was our first time seeing him with a cat. If you have a cat in the home, we can arrange for Hoobie to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know!
Hoobie has a sweet playful puppy side, but overall he is a really easy little guy. He has been known to be left free roaming unattended with no issues and also does well in his crate when his foster is gone at work all day, and he does great. He is also potty trained but may need a reminder about where the appropriate potty places are once he arrives at his forever home. Hoobie is a quiet small dog overall. He may bark when someone comes near the fence or approaches the house, but then he stops and goes back to being his good little self. His foster says he is just a really good boy, and honestly that feels like the perfect way to describe him.
Hoobie likes cheese, enjoys affection, and does not need some intense exercise routine to be happy. He walks well on leash, but he is not asking for long hikes or marathon walks. This boy would be totally happy going outside to do his business, sniff around, sunbathe for a bit, and then head right back inside to resume his regularly scheduled cozy life LOL. He can have little bursts of playful energy, but “happy homebody” is much more his vibe than “social butterfly outing dog.”
Hoobie could do well in an apartment as long as it’s not right in the heart of a busy city with constant noise and chaos. He would also absolutely thrive in a home with a backyard where he can lounge in the sun, smell all the smells, and quietly keep his person company. We can totally see him being the perfect little companion for someone who likes to garden, porch sit, drink coffee outside, or just wants a sweet scruffy buddy nearby while they go about their day. At the end of the day, Hoobie is one of those dogs that may need a minute to show you his whole heart, but once he does, he is so worth it. He is sweet, cuddly, quiet, adorable, and just the perfect little golden low-rider for someone looking for a gentle companion with a playful side and a whole lot of love to give.
We are willing to test Hoobie Shoobie with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know.
