Sophie was one of those dogs. At 4 years old and weighing just 9.8 pounds, this beautiful Havanese/Poodle mix had every reason to look at the world with uncertainty. Instead, she chooses joy. She wakes up each morning grateful for another day, another cuddle, another chance to simply be loved, and it’s impossible not to feel that gratitude the moment you’re around her. When Sophie first arrived in our care, we immediately knew something wasn’t right. She had blood in her urine, and after an extensive veterinary workup, including X-rays, we discovered she was living with five large bladder stones that required immediate surgery. It broke our hearts knowing she had likely been living in pain for quite some time. Thankfully, our incredible veterinary team was able to remove every one of her bladder stones. During the same procedure, Sophie was also spayed, received a complete dental cleaning, was microchipped, and brought current on all of her vaccinations. Because of the severity of her condition, we also performed bloodwork to ensure her kidneys had not been affected. To our relief, every value came back completely normal. Two weeks later, her follow-up urinalysis came back perfect as well. While there is always a possibility that bladder stones can return, Sophie has been set up for success. She is now on a prescription diet and, with routine veterinary checkups and periodic urinalyses, any future concerns can be caught early, allowing her to continue living the healthy, happy, pain-free life she deserves. Her previous owner simply could not afford the medical care she so desperately needed and ultimately walked away. We never measure a person’s love by their circumstances, but we are incredibly grateful we were able to step in when we did. Watching Sophie transform from a dog living in discomfort into one who greets each day with happiness has been one of the most rewarding journeys we’ve had the privilege of witnessing. There is something incredibly special about the way Sophie loves. She has a habit of gently placing her paw on your arm whenever she wants a little extra affection, and if you stop petting her too soon, she’ll softly paw at you again as if to say, “Just one more minute.” She looks up at the people she loves with complete admiration, patiently waiting to be invited closer, never demanding attention but always appreciating every bit of it. She is gentle, kind, and has a warmth about her that makes everyone she meets fall in love with her. Sophie is house trained and will politely tap at the door when she’d like to go outside. Once she’s finished, she’s happy to come right back in, although if you’re spending time in the yard gardening, enjoying your morning coffee, or simply relaxing outdoors, she’ll happily stretch out nearby and enjoy those quiet moments right beside you. She has incredible recall and quickly learned the name we gave her after arriving in our care. Today, every time you call for Sophie, she comes running with the sweetest smile, simply happy that someone is calling for her. She is crate trained and currently sleeps in her crate each night, though she doesn’t require one. Whether you prefer she sleeps on her own bed or curled up beside you, she’ll be perfectly content with either. She has wonderful manners in the home, walks beautifully on a leash, rides exceptionally well in the car, and is always a favorite during her grooming appointments. She is not a barker and carries herself with a quiet confidence that makes living with her incredibly peaceful. Sophie loves everyone she meets, including men, women, and children. She is wonderful with other gentle, respectful dogs and does beautifully with cats as well. Because she isn’t a high-energy dog herself, she especially enjoys the company of animals who appreciate a calmer pace of life. At the same time, she would be just as happy becoming the center of someone’s world as an only pet. Sometimes rescue isn’t just about saving a life. Sometimes it’s about giving a life back. Sophie has already fought through the hardest part of her journey. Now she’s simply waiting for someone who will cherish every healthy, happy day still ahead of her. She will undoubtedly become your best friend, and while she will always benefit from routine veterinary monitoring and her prescription diet, that’s a very small commitment in exchange for the unconditional love she gives so freely. We promised Sophie that the next family she called her own would love her as deeply as she deserves, and we intend to keep that promise. Her fee helps offset a portion of the emergency diagnostics, bladder stone surgery, spay, dental cleaning, bloodwork, vaccinations, microchip, follow-up care, and the months of love, training, and rehabilitation she has received while with us. More importantly, every adoption makes it possible for us to say “yes” to the next dog facing an urgent medical need, just as we did for Sophie. We would love to add Lola to our trip for the right family 😊 Some dogs have a way of making you feel like you’ve known them forever, even if you’ve only just met. That’s Lola. Lola is a beautiful purebred Yorkshire Terrier, born on April 27, 2024, and weighs just 9.71 pounds fully grown. She is the perfect little size to accompany you wherever life takes you, whether that’s relaxing at home, heading out for a walk, or piling into the car for your next adventure. From the moment she came into our care, she settled into our family as though she’d always belonged here. She has a gentle confidence about her that makes everyone around her feel comfortable. Whether she’s introducing herself to a new person, making friends with another dog, or happily greeting a cat, Lola approaches everyone with a happy heart and a wagging tail. She truly is one of the easiest little dogs to fall in love with. Lola is house trained, crate trained, and walks beautifully on a leash. She absolutely loves going on walks, but she’s just as content spending a quiet afternoon curled up nearby while you work or relax. If you’re sitting at your desk, she’ll happily lie at your feet. If you’re on the couch, she’ll be right beside you hoping you’ll rub her belly, which she will gladly roll over for every single time. She has a wonderfully balanced personality. She’s playful and loves engaging with her people, but she isn’t demanding or high maintenance. She doesn’t feel the need to constantly be the center of attention and is perfectly happy simply being close to the people she loves. She’s quiet, rarely barks, and has such an easygoing nature that she fits into a home effortlessly. Lola is also an absolute joy to travel with. She rides beautifully in the car, making her the perfect companion for everything from quick errands to long road trips. She also does wonderfully at the groomer, handling her appointments with the same calm, trusting temperament she carries through every part of life. Her previous owner loved her dearly, and it shows in everything she does. Unfortunately, he found himself in a position where he could no longer financially provide the care she deserved. Rather than allowing her to go without, he made the incredibly selfless decision to entrust her to our rescue so we could find her a family who would continue giving her the life he always wanted for her. That decision came entirely from love, and we are honored to help write the next chapter of Lola’s story. Because of her gentle, outgoing personality, we believe Lola would be an exceptional companion for both first-time dog owners and families who have shared their lives with dogs for many years. She doesn’t overwhelm people with an overly strong personality, yet she has enough confidence to settle into new environments with ease. It isn’t given freely or rushed, it is built one gentle moment at a time. And once you’ve earned it, you’ve gained a friend whose love runs deeper than words could ever describe. That is Biscuit. Beneath his cautious first impression is one of the sweetest, happiest little souls you could ever hope to meet, simply waiting for someone to show him that the world is a safe and wonderful place. Biscuit is a handsome Shih Tzu and Yorkshire Terrier mix born on January 8, 2026. He currently weighs right around 10 pounds and is expected to mature between 12 and 14 pounds, making him the perfect little companion for just about any lifestyle. When you first meet Biscuit, he may be a little reserved. New people and unfamiliar situations can make him uncertain, and he’ll look to you for reassurance while he figures things out. What he needs isn’t someone to change who he is, but someone who understands that confidence grows through patience, consistency, and love. Every day we’ve watched him become just a little braver than the day before, and it has been one of the greatest joys to witness. We know his future family will experience that same beautiful transformation as he settles into a home where he feels safe. Once Biscuit knows he belongs, his personality begins to shine. His little tail is constantly wagging whenever he’s happy or excited to be part of your day, and seeing that tiny tail going is enough to make anyone smile. He has such a gentle, joyful spirit and truly enjoys simply being included in whatever you’re doing. While he loves affection and spending time with his people, he also has a wonderfully mellow side. If you’re working around the house, reading a book, or relaxing after a long day, he’ll happily curl up nearby, content just knowing he’s close to the people he loves. He also has a playful side that comes alive outdoors. Watching Biscuit run through the yard with another kind, playful dog is enough to remind you what pure happiness looks like. He enjoys having canine friends, but he certainly doesn’t require another dog in his forever home. As long as he has a person who will spend time with him, encourage him, and include him in daily life, he will be perfectly content. His greatest desire isn’t another dog, it’s a family who will become his safe place. Biscuit came into our care because a young woman who loved him deeply was preparing to leave for college. Knowing she could no longer give him the consistency and commitment he deserved, and with her parents’ work schedules making it impossible for them to take over his care, she made the incredibly selfless decision to ask us to find him a family who could give him everything she knew he deserved. It was a decision made entirely out of love, and we promised her we would find the home where Biscuit could truly flourish. He has wonderful manners in the home and thrives when he has a predictable routine. Biscuit is house trained and does an excellent job going outside every couple of hours. Like many dogs, he finds comfort in consistency, and maintaining a regular schedule will help him continue to succeed. He is crate trained and currently sleeps peacefully in his crate each night, although we have no doubt he would happily transition to sleeping in a dog bed beside yours or even snuggled up in bed if that’s what his future family prefers. He is also a perfect gentleman during grooming appointments and genuinely enjoys being pampered. Grooming days have become little spa days for him, and he handles them beautifully. One of our favorite things about Biscuit is his adorable classic Shih Tzu underbite. It peeks through in many of his photos and gives him so much personality. It’s one of those charming breed characteristics that Shih Tzu lovers know and adore, and in Biscuit’s case, it somehow makes him even more endearing. The one area we haven’t had the opportunity to work extensively on is leash training. Because we’ve focused on building his confidence first, formal leash work is still ahead of him. Thankfully, Biscuit is an incredibly smart little boy, eager to learn, and we have every confidence that with patient guidance and positive encouragement, he’ll quickly master walking on a leash just as he has everything else. Biscuit isn’t a barker, which many families appreciate. He enjoys a peaceful home and generally stays quiet, though he’ll let you know if he hears something truly unfamiliar. As he has settled into rescue life, even those alerts have become less frequent because he’s learned that not every new sound is something to worry about. Because Biscuit is still growing, our veterinarian has recommended waiting until he reaches approximately 10 to 12 months of age before being neutered, allowing him the opportunity to fully mature. For that reason, he will be adopted on a neuter contract. He is current on all of his one-year vaccinations, has been microchipped, and has been thoroughly examined by our veterinarian. As part of his routine care, we submitted a fecal sample to the laboratory, and based on those results, he completed two rounds of deworming to ensure he is healthy and ready for his forever home. He will also go home with an official health certificate from our veterinarian. Biscuit is looking for someone who understands that some of the most rewarding relationships take a little time to blossom. The family who chooses him won’t simply be adopting a dog, they’ll have the privilege of watching a timid little boy slowly discover just how wonderful life can be. They’ll witness the first moments of newfound confidence, the excited tail wags, the happy zoomies across the yard, and the quiet evenings spent beside the people he trusts with his whole heart.
