Story
T8R, affectionately known as Tater, is a charming Morkie (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier born Sept 2018) with a heartwarming tale of rescue from the brink of shelter euthanasia. Despite enduring past mistreatment, T8R, fondly called Tate, exudes sweetness once he builds a bond with you, showering you with kisses and embracing moments of being picked up. To ensure his well-being, this endearing boy seeks a tranquil and nurturing forever home where his anxieties can be understood and embraced with unwavering patience and love. While the journey of building trust with T8R may require time, his new companion will play a pivotal role in supporting him every step of the way. Ideal for T8R is a female owner, given his history of abuse from men. Environments devoid of children and large dogs are paramount, as loud noises trigger fear responses, and interactions with bigger canines can be challenging. T8R thrives in the company of friendly small dogs, but may exhibit protectiveness over items due to past insecurities. He may prefer being the sole dog in the household, with occasional small dog playdates for socialization. While he shows maturity in staying alone at home and is mostly housetrained, occasional accidents may occur. T8R is still acclimating to leash walking, but has shown progress under the guidance of his foster mom. Regular grooming may necessitate sedation, a process he handles well. Engaging in ball chasing brings T8R immense joy, even if returning the ball isn't his forte. While he may not be the typical lap dog, T8R's preference for sleeping next to you on the floor highlights his loyal nature.  To aid T8R in overcoming his fears, prospective adopters must commit to meeting a trainer before finalizing the adoption, ensuring a gradual and supportive transition tailored to T8R's pace. Adoptions for T8R are limited to a 50-mile radius of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area to facilitate ongoing access to the valuable training provided by our certified positive reinforcement trainer. The suggested adoption donation for T8R is $300.  We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes. Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the dog’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the pet. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver. If this pet is not spayed or neutered at the time of adoption due to limited vetting availability, a voucher will be given to the adopter to take the pet to be altered at NHS free of charge. Alterations are REQUIRED for all Muddy Paws adoptions. The contract states the alter must be done within ONE month of the adoption date or adopter will be in breach of contract. Adopter is required to provide proof of alter to Muddy Paws Rescue immediately after procedure complete. Thank you in advance for your compliance. Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each dog, based on the dog’s needs. If you and the dog are not a good match, we will help you select another dog, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months. Good with dogs,
Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills. These breeds make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, structure, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. If you are new to German Shepherds (and other herding breeds), please research the breed to make sure this is the dog for you. We ask that you consider the time and financial commitment that your German Shepherd (or other herding breed) dog will require before applying for one. Please review the section on our website (www.heartlandgsrescue.org) 'Is a HUGS Dog Right for You?' for additional information. We rescued Hawthorne and Oolong from a commercial breeding operation. Both young boys are very sweet. They each have their own foster home where they have been getting lots of one-on-one attention. They have been learning about indoor life, how to go up and down stairs, potty-training, and living with loving foster families. There have been lots of 'firsts' for these pups like being groomed, going for walks, getting treats, and they have been thriving and loving their new lives! Looking for a gallon of personality in a pint-sized package? Then Hawthorne is the one for you! This 8-pound Yorkshire Terrier has been living with four German-Shepherd foster siblings since October, and since he doesn’t seem to realize he’s 1/10th their size, we’re not going to be the ones to tell him! Hawthorne is only a year old, and sure has the daily zoomies to prove it, although after a few minutes of zooming, he’s always down to curl up for snuggles. Prior to coming to HUGS, he lived in a kennel, so he had to start from scratch at his foster home, but he’s figured out that toys are awesome, and is still finishing potty training (but has already made huge strides!). Hawthorne’s mom didn’t hear a single sound from him for over two weeks, but he does have a voice, although he really only uses it when playing with his canine friends. Being so little doesn’t stop him from going wherever he wants – he’s becoming more confident every day, and has no problem climbing over dogs and humans in his path. Hawthorne’s main priority in life is to be touching one of his pack members, whether that be falling asleep with his head on one of the other dogs, or snuggled up on mom’s lap while she works. If you’re not giving him enough attention, he has no problem gently pawing you to remind you that he’s right there. Hawthorne has not been cat or kid tested, although foster mom think he’d do well with both. Hawthorne's biggest shortcoming is that he doesn't seem to realize how little he is, and lacking any sense of self-preservation, he nearly give his foster mom a heart attack when he ran towards a hawk instead of away! Thanks to a generous donation, Hawthorne does come with his own little punk rock spiked jacket to deter any future predator issues! The adoption fee for Hawthorn is $500, all of which goes back into offseting our high-cost vetting expenses and rescuing more dogs. We are a 100% volunteer-run rescue group and rely on adoption fees and donations to continue saving lives. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, current on age-appropriate vaccinations, fecal, deworming, flea/tick and heartworm preventative, heartworm tested if old enough (and treated if positive), and microchipped.  Please visit http://heartlandgsrescue.rescuegroups.org/info/adoption for more information about our adoption process and requirements, and to apply. Like any of our dogs, Hawthorn would make a great addition to an active home that will provide the love, structure, good leadership, regular grooming, activity and mental stimulation that her breed needs. Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to provide sufficient stimulation, ward off boredom, and work on leash skills, and manners.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet. Please review the information in the 'About Us', 'Important Considerations' and 'Adopt' sections on our website menu, as it contains useful information about the breed, adoption fees, the adoption process and our requirements, and how meeting the dogs works.November 26, 2025, 1:04 am

Story
This little ball of fluff is looking for a loving family that would like to have a loyal companion in the home.  Layla is a senior Maltese (possibly born in 2017, maybe a little older).  She is crate and leash trained and knows some commands.  She LOVES to go for walks!  She likes to have another dog companion in the house, but she would also do well as the only dog.  Layla plays well with a 2 year old Aussie/Border Collie - it just took a little time for Layla to warm up. Layla is friendly with other dogs, strangers and children.  Because of her size, she would probably be better with older kids (age 6+). The perfect home would have a fenced yard so she can explore.   Layla is usually calm and enjoys being a lap dog and giving kisses.   She will be found close by her humans whenever possible, following them wherever they go! The suggested adoption donation for Layla is $350, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training). Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. We are a 100% volunteer rescue committed to giving animals a second chance at life. All donations go toward that mission. Adoption fees are the primary source of funding for the cost of veterinary care for our animals. In 2022 alone, we provided animal Healthcare totaling over $399,000 covered mainly through adoption fees.   Please Note:  A Courtesy Post designates that an animal is still in the home of its owner and not in a Muddy Paws foster. This means that our exposure to the animal is limited since we only assist the owner in finding a new home for their pet. From time to time, owners find a new furever home for their pets outside of Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue, and there is a delay in removing them from our site. We apologize if the Courtesy Post you apply to adopt is unavailable for adoption.   Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application has completed our prescreen steps, we will put you in touch with the animal’s foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks, and a Home Visit (Virtual in some cases) during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal’s needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.   To learn about Muddy Paws Last Chance Rescue or donate to our animals, please visit our website at MuddyPawsSecondChanceRescue.com or our Facebook Page Muddy Paws Second Chance Rescue Inc.   Alter Agreement: If the dog or cat you adopt is older than 6 months of age and not spayed or neutered, you will receive a voucher to alter the pet at Val Verde Animal Hospital or Omaha Animal Medical Group in Omaha, at no cost to you. Or you can alter the pet at your own vet and be reimbursed $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, of total cost. If the dog or cat is younger than 6 months of age, the adopter will be responsible for the cost of altering the pet at the vet of their choice. If proof of alter is received by Muddy Paws prior to the pet turning 6 months of age, a reimbursement of $100 for dogs, and $50 for cats, will be sent to you to help cover expenses. All puppies and kittens MUST be spayed or neutered by 6 months of age. All dogs and cats MUST be spayed or neutered no later than one month after adoption is finalized.   ##2588508##

Story
Ginger is a snuggly, loving Maltese/Yorkie mix, approximately 2 years old (born 2023). She is potty pad trained and will potty outside. Ginger’s favorite place in the world is either on a lap or next to you on the sofa. She is playful, however, being next to her human is what she longs for. Ginger was found as a stray along with her best friend Fred. They are very bonded, as they survived on the streets together and never separated.  It is preferred they be adopted together. Ginger has been fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and spayed.  She is ready for her forever home. A home with no children and a secure, fenced-in yard is a must. It would be best for Fred and Ginger to be in a home as the only dogs so they can receive all of your love, however, they are accepting of other dogs. Ginger has soulful eyes and is the most pleasant little girl. She will warm your heart with every hug.   Fred and Ginger are ready to dance their way into your life!  They are both such sweet dogs and deserve a home where they get lots of love! Here are a few things about them: House trained and leash trained.   Enjoy quality lap time and like to give kisses. Scared and nervous around small children (might be okay with older kids, age 13+). VELCRO dogs - they stay by each other's side, but also with their person. Both will take off out the front door if given the opportunity.  You'll need to keep an eye on them and away from the door when allowing guests in. Must have secure fenced yard to safely explore and lounge in the sun when the weather is nice.  (They are both very small and escape artists!) The suggested adoption donation for both Fred and Ginger is $600, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Story
Fred is a spunky, loving Maltese boy, approximately 4 years old (born 2021). He is mostly potty pad trained and will potty outside. He loves to play with toys, hide & seek and snuggle with a human on the sofa. He’s not a big barker and a bit of a Velcro dog. He loves people. Fred was found as a stray along with his best friend Ginger. They are very bonded, as they survived on the streets together and never separated.  It is preferred they be adopted together. Fred has been fully vaccinated, micro-chipped and neutered.  He is ready for his forever home.  A home with no children and a secure, fenced-in yard is a must. He would prefer someone who is home most of the time and should not be kenneled/crated as he has crate anxiety.  It would be best for Fred and Ginger to be in a home as the only dogs so they can receive all of your love, however, they are accepting of other dogs. Fred is just a joy. He seeks to make his human smile and is a comical little fellow.  Just looking at him will make you smile. Here are a few things they have in common: House trained and leash trained.   Enjoy quality lap time and like to give kisses. They would enjoy a calm person who is home most of the time. They are bonded and need to be adopted together! Scared and nervous around small children (might be okay with older kids, age 13+). Must have secure fenced yard to safely explore and lounge in the sun when the weather is nice.  (They are both very small and escape artists!) Fred is friendly with strangers.  He should be walked on a harness and not just the collar/leash as he pulls.  He finds comfort snuggling with her person and he loves to run the yard barking at passerby dogs.  He needs someone that won't mind having a little shadow following them around.     The suggested adoption donation for both Fred and Ginger is $600, which includes a lifetime of free relationship-based training for any behavioral problems (not obedience training).  Muddy Paws is a 501c3 non-profit organization meaning that part of your donation MAY be TAX DEDUCTIBLE.
