Name: Niko Age: 9 years Gender: male Breed: Yorkie Weight: 11 lbs Dog friendly: yes- calm respectful dogs, please Cat friendly: testing available upon request Child friendly: yes, older  school aged gentle children please House trained: yes Crate trained: yes Energy level: low Temperament: sweet, snuggly, docile, easygoing, loyal Adoption Fee: $375+tax To adopt, go to:   www.mendingspirits.org/apply-to-adopt.html Some hearts learn to love quietly first. Nico’s learned to love with everything he has.  Rescued from a hoarding situation with 18 other Chihuahuas, Nico came from a world where space was crowded, attention was scarce, and safety wasn’t guaranteed. And yet—despite all of that—this little one-eyed gentleman chose love. He chose people. He chose closeness. Nico is a true cuddle bug in every sense of the word. If he had his way, he’d spend the entire day curled up on the bed beside you, tucked into blankets and pillows, soaking in the comfort he waited so long to have. He follows his people everywhere, always wanting to be close, always making sure you’re nearby. Treats are one of his love languages (especially a whipped cream pup cup), and car rides feel like tiny adventures he’s always happy to join. Toys are fun for Nico, but he likes to take his time. New environments can feel big, so he may need a little patience before his playful side fully comes out—but when it does, it’s worth the wait. Nico enjoys the company of other dogs, especially when introductions happen slowly and thoughtfully. When it comes to his favorite humans, though, he prefers to keep them all to himself. People are his safe place, and he has so much love to give once he knows you’re his. He loves food but eats in small portions, and he’s still learning boundaries and manners—making wonderful progress every day. He’s working on his leash skills and is quickly learning how to tell his fosters when it’s time to go outside. Nico is house trained, crate trained, and generally very quiet, though being with his people is always his favorite option. This little one-eyed man has a way of stealing hearts without even trying. He’s gentle, affectionate, and always ready for the next cozy adventure—whether that’s a car ride, a short walk, or simply a quiet afternoon at home. Nico would do best in a calm, loving home with older, gentle children or a senior or retired household where he can soak up all the companionship he’s been missing. After everything he’s been through, what he wants most is simple: a soft place to land, steady routines, and someone to love him as much as he loves them. And trust us—loving Nico is the easiest thing in the world. January 29, 2026, 9:58 pm

Story
Hi, my name is Sage, I am from Alabama. From her foster: Sage came to rescue from a hoarding situation. She is very sweet, but also very hesitant to trust people. She gets along beautifully with dogs and is very gentle. We have learned that she loves mealtime and treats. Sage is still very leery of being touched and I have to corner her to be able to pick her up. She sleeps in bed with all of us at night. She is really good about using potty pads. It has been too cold to start going outside and she has no idea how to walk on a leash so we are staying in for now. She will likely need a dental (paid for by The Bond Between) and will be scheduled for a spay. She is visiting with the vet soon. If you’ve ever wanted to help a dog learn what it is like to be loved, adopting a dog from a bad situation is extremely rewarding. You will need patience, a gentle, quiet personality, and more patience. Sage will feel most comfortable in a home with another dog. I don't know if she has ever met a cat, but I doubt she would hurt one. She is a flight risk. From the Vet: At Sage's Intake vetting exam with our Rescue Medical Team, Sage was noted to have several missing/discolored teeth. TBB will be pursuing a Dental COHAT surgery for Sage to further evaluate, clean and remove any teeth that are severely diseased. This procedure could potentially be coupled with her spay with one or our partner hospitals, so as soon as we are able to medically clear her for surgery with healthy blood work, TBB will schedule the procedure.

Story
Hi, my name is Daphne. I am from Alabama. From her foster: Daphne is a resilient little girl, full of energy, who loves snuggles. She's shy and can take a little while to warm up, but once she does she will happily follow you all around the house. She does well with other small dogs. From the Vet: Daphne came into the care of The BB along with several other dogs from a situation with poor living conditions. Her skin needed some help and this has much improved over her time in rescue. At the time of her spay, she needed to have a mammary mass removed. Those results showed a benign growth so no further care is needed. We wish her all the best in her new home!

Hi, my name is Calvin. I am from Alabama. From the Vet: Calvin came from a situation with poor conditions/medical care. His skin needed some TLC that we are supporting with medication/shampoo and other anti-itch therapies. He has fairly severe dental disease so TBB will plan to send him for dental surgery with his neuter procedure. He will receive a thorough cleaning with a possibility of extractions. If adopted shortly after the procedure, he may need some softened kibble or canned food for a period of time. Beyond that, we hope that he finds a soft and deservedly loving forever home. He has been through so much and we can't wait to see him thrive!

Story
Hi, my name is Adele, I am from Alabama. From her foster: Adele was rescued from a hoarding situation in Alabama. It was a very rough start for this sweet girl. She was malnourished, underweight and fearful of human touch. Adele has made lots of progress, healthier and her playful personality is emerging. She's learning to trust humans are good but is still fearful of being touched. Each day Adele comes a bit closer. She eats from my hand, likes to nap on the couch near me, and follows around the kitchen when it is meal time, wagging her tail and tapping her paws in excitement. With time and patience, Adele will be a wonderful companion. She wants so badly to bond. Starting to vocalize when I leave the room. Adele is good about using pee pads. She likes her kennel but prefers to sleep on the couch. Haven't taken her outside on a leash yet. Trying to take it slow. Adele needs someone who is willing to be patient and let her gain trust in people. It's important she is given time to bond without forced contact. She is a flight risk due to her anxiety and fear of people.

Hi, my name is Carl, I am from Alabama. From his foster: Carl is a sweet and shy boy who is looking for a quiet home. Carl was recently rescued from a Puppy Mill that was shutdown due to neglect and living conditions. He has had a rough start on life and needs a quiet, understanding home that can help him learn what love is. At this time he is not potty-trained because he is too scared of the new environment of the back yard. We have been taking him outside to get used to it, and are hopeful that once it is no longer a scary place, he can be house-trained. Carl needs a home with no small kids as fast movement and loud sounds are terrifying for him. Carl has done well with the small dog in the house, though he has been pretty shutdown, so there is not much interaction.
