She may be a bit shy when first meeting new people, but give her a little time and reassurance and she blossoms into the sweetest lap companion you could ask for. Once she feels safe, Winnie loves being close to her person and will happily curl up in your lap for cuddles and quiet time. Winnie does well with adult women and both big and small dogs. She can be a little unsure at first, especially around new dogs, and may try to act tough if another dog approaches her person. She responds very well to gentle correction and quickly learns to accept dogs that respect her space and her tiny size. She does best in calm, respectful dog interactions and is very even-tempered overall. She is leash trained, crate trained, does well in the car, and truly wants to please. Winnie may whine a bit when crated and can bark at unfamiliar dogs, but these behaviors improve as she settles in and feels secure. When she first arrives in a new environment, she may potty a little due to nerves, but that stops once she feels safe and comfortable. She will give a warning growl to other dogs around food or treats, but she has never shown this behavior toward humans. Winnie came from a high-kill shelter and appears to have been mistreated in the past. She is very submissive and will often roll onto her back when approached, a sign of both her gentle nature and her desire to please. It’s clear she’s been craving love and stability, and once she bonds, she attaches deeply to her person. She loves attention, enjoys being outside, and would thrive with someone who wants a lap dog that can also enjoy some outdoor time. Because she is tiny, a secure yard or close supervision outside is important, as she could slip through small spaces. Winnie is looking for a patient, loving home that understands shy dogs and is willing to give her the reassurance she needs. In return, she will give unwavering devotion, sweet cuddles, and the kind of companionship that makes you feel truly chosen.  Winnie is ready for a forever home where she can finally feel safe, loved, and never let down again! Winnie is from Texas. They arrive in Minnesota on 2/7/2026 and will need to be picked up from the Ruff Start Rescue office in Princeton, MN between the hours of 9am and noon. Please plan for their arrival accordingly as we cannot accommodate pickups outside of this time frame. Since arriving in foster care, she has completely come out of her shell—this once&#226&#128&#145shy girl is now confident, playful, and full of joy. She zips off the tops of furniture, chases toys with enthusiasm, chews happily on her doggy bones, and absolutely adores her foster sister. When playtime is over, she transforms right back into a master cuddle bug and the best little buddy you could ask for. She’s gentle, affectionate, and eager to please, with a sweet, loyal nature that makes her easy to love. Matcha is fully potty trained, walks nicely on a leash, and rides well in the car. She knows several commands—Sit, Come, Stay, Down, Leave It, Go Potty, and more—and she’s a smart little lady who enjoys learning. She can be cautious with new people at first, but she warms up quickly and bonds deeply. Matcha is crate trained and sleeps quietly through the night without accidents, though she may bark a bit when first settling in. Hi, my name is Carl, I am from Alabama. From his foster: Carl is a sweet and shy boy who is looking for a quiet home. Carl was recently rescued from a Puppy Mill that was shutdown due to neglect and living conditions. He has had a rough start on life and needs a quiet, understanding home that can help him learn what love is. At this time he is not potty-trained because he is too scared of the new environment of the back yard. We have been taking him outside to get used to it, and are hopeful that once it is no longer a scary place, he can be house-trained. Carl needs a home with no small kids as fast movement and loud sounds are terrifying for him. Carl has done well with the small dog in the house, though he has been pretty shutdown, so there is not much interaction.

Hi, my name is Sage, I am from Alabama. From her foster: Sage came to rescue from a hoarding situation. She is very sweet, but also very hesitant to trust people. She gets along beautifully with dogs and is very gentle. We have learned that she loves mealtime and treats. Sage is still very leery of being touched and I have to corner her to be able to pick her up. She sleeps in bed with all of us at night. She is really good about using potty pads. It has been too cold to start going outside and she has no idea how to walk on a leash so we are staying in for now. She will likely need a dental (paid for by The Bond Between) and will be scheduled for a spay. She is visiting with the vet soon. If you’ve ever wanted to help a dog learn what it is like to be loved, adopting a dog from a bad situation is extremely rewarding. You will need patience, a gentle, quiet personality, and more patience. Sage will feel most comfortable in a home with another dog. I don't know if she has ever met a cat, but I doubt she would hurt one. She is a flight risk. From the Vet: At Sage's Intake vetting exam with our Rescue Medical Team, Sage was noted to have several missing/discolored teeth. TBB will be pursuing a Dental COHAT surgery for Sage to further evaluate, clean and remove any teeth that are severely diseased. This procedure could potentially be coupled with her spay with one or our partner hospitals, so as soon as we are able to medically clear her for surgery with healthy blood work, TBB will schedule the procedure.
