We got Mia as a puppy in a rescue situation. Mia is a sweet but anxious dog. I have been unable to properly house train her and now unfortunately don’t have the time to walk her and spend time with her the way she deserves. She would do best with owners who are home often as she has separation anxiety.

Frankie was recently rescued from a NY Shelter where he was picked up as a stray. No one claimed him so DCAR was happy to bring him into our rescue. He was very matted when he was found and had to be shaved down. Frankie listens well, comes when he is called, loves to chase balls and curl up on your lap. He’s a sweet, cuddle bug. He is also doing great on house training. Frankie has settled in well at his foster home but he has developed house guarding issues. He does not like strangers coming into his space. He barks loudly and aggressively in an effort to scare people away. He recently saw a behaviorist for an evaluation and we will be working on correcting this behavior. He will need an adopter who is willing to continue his training and help him feel less anxious. Frankie would be great as an only dog but is good with other dogs too. Frankie's perfect home is a house that does not get a lot of visitors and no small children. Fence preferred but all applications will be considered. This dog is currently being fostered in Rochester, NY and cannot travel prior to adoption. Meet and greets available in the surrounding area only. Visitors welcome. PLEASE READ ALL OF THE INFORMATION BELOW! We currently adopt in the states of NY, NJ, Eastern PA, DE, and some areas in MD. We can not accept applications from other states at this time. If you are interested in adopting this dog, please fill out our adoption application which you can find on our website at www.dutchcountryanimalrescue.org/adopt.html Our adoption fees are on our application. All of our rescues are spayed/neutered, up to date on rabies and DHPP, heartworm tested, treated for worms and fleas and most are microchipped. We are not a shelter, we are 100% volunteer public charity. All of our dogs are in foster homes until they are adopted. Since we are not a shelter, we do not receive government funding. We are a public charity that relies solely on funds through our adoption fee, fundraisers, and private donations. Since we are 100% volunteer based, all funds collected go directly towards the rescue and vet costs of our dogs. We take each rescue personally and spend a lot of effort trying to match the right dog to the right family. Thank you for considering one of our rescued dogs.

**Texas adoption only*** This is Joey, a senior dog with the heart and soul of a resilient soldier. For starters, Joey is a beautiful senior Lhasa Apso mix with a unique personality. He's a polite but guarded gentleman who looks like he's wearing a fancy gray suit! Joey is a very sensitive dog who'll need very sensitive, present, and patient people to take him on. For Joey's adoption process he will need several appointments and meetings to see if it is a good match. Joey enjoys long walks, perhaps one of his favorite activities, and will take you on a nicely paced walk through your neighborhood everyday if you get him on the leash! Joey is well trained knowing both how to behave and be comfortable in a crate and relieve himself outside. Joey also enjoys a good tug of war and was a mean puller during his old army days with the other boys in green. He's a child at heart and loves to play with toys! This fellow would prefer to be the only dog in the house but can be tolerant of other dogs. If other dogs are present Joey might feel a bit insecure and start marking. Please don't move too quickly towards Joey! He likes a very relaxed, low-energy environment and is not afraid to let you know when there's too much going on. Joey would prefer no children or at least older children that can respect him and not stick their hands in his face. In addition, Joey prefers people not be too grabby with him. He enjoys his personal space. Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)
