Story
My name is Piper and I am the cutest little thing. I love everyone. I love to kiss and kiss and kiss. I love to be held. I am playful with people and learning to play with dog toys and other dogs. So far I get along with all dogs but get nervous a bit with large dogs. My rescue was told that I could not walk due to a bump on my back. I was found tied to a bench with a diaper on. After seeing my new vet and arriving at my new foster home, not only can I walk but I can run. I may have a wonky gait but I am getting stronger. Our vet said I most likely have a birth defect where my spine has a strange formation causing the lump on my back. I still need diapers because I cannot control my pee and poop. It just pushes out by itself. The good news is it comes out on its own. In spite of my special needs, I am happy and bouncy and oh so loving. If you can embrace my special needs and my awesome personality, I may be the dog for you. I would love a home with another same sized dog. I will need to have my diapers change but do well with that. I would love a fenced in yard so I know I am safe outside. I would love to go places with you. I ride well in the car. I am just perfect. If you have room in your heart and your arms and lap, please apply for me at safeanimalhaven.orgNovember 5, 2024, 12:12 am

Story
Age: 7 years Weight: 6 lbs. Adoption Fee: $300.00 Fostered in Indian Trail, North Carolina Email: yorkiemommync@yahoo.com 6/26/25 - We are still working through Harley's skin issues. Her skin culture showed she has a very resistant staph infection and there is only one antibiotic that will work. It may cause GI issues, but so far it has been ok. She also had an allergy test, and she is allergic to several grasses, trees, mold, dust mites, and storage mites, so things that are all over the place. We are going to try allergy shots, but they will be drops under the tongue instead of a shot. It can take a year to two years to see a difference with the allergy drops. She has stopped throwing up, so the GI medicine she is on is helping that. It is possible she may have GERD, which is why she just throws up without warning or heaving or anything, it just comes right out without any warning. Harley is getting more and more comfortable and her personality is showing more everyday. She can be quite vocal when you are not going fast enough to get her meal done, or at strangers that come over if another dog barks at them. She loves going for rides in the car and does great in her console car seat. She loves laying in the sun like her foster sister Harper. 4/14/25 - Harley came to YHR because her mom was moving and her medical issues were getting to be too much. Harley has some significant skin issues and itching and throws up occasionally. Her skin issues have caused some of her skin to turn black around her eyes, all over her backend, and her back ankles. Because of her itching, she does have to wear a cone occasionally otherwise she scratches until she bleeds. She will be seeing the dogtor this week, so more to come!! Other than her medical issues, she is opening up and is very sweet. She has been fine with all the other pups and has been very patient with her baths.

Story
Age: 10 years Weight: 7 lbs. Adoption Fee: $200 Fostered in Indian Trail, North Carolina Email: yorkiemommync@yahoo.com 8/22/25 - Bruno is doing well. He still has lots of energy and loves to play with his toys. He loves it when his foster mom chases him with a toy in his mouth or throws the toy for him. We have been dealing with some GI issues for Bruno but are moving in the right direction to make him feel better. He is on meds for protein in his urine and is on a low-fat veterinary diet and other meds to help with throwing up and diarrhea. He has regular checks with his internal medicine doctor and we are monitoring his bloodwork closely because some metrics are off and need to be managed. 9/16/24 - Bruno's skin condition has been in remission for over a year. He no longer takes any medication for his skin. He is just on supplements for his joints since his hips are not the best. He is very sensitive to the food he eats and can get runny poo very quickly, but his foster mom has found a food that is working and he has no longer had any poo issues. He still loves to play with toys and likes to be chased, he crawls under blankets to nap, and unfortunately still has to wear a belly band because he will pee on anything at any time. He still always looks so happy and excited too. 11/30/22 – Today we found out Bruno has an autoimmune disease called Pemphigus Erythematosus that is causing all his skin issues. His dermatologist is going to start him on high dose steroids for two weeks to try and get it in remission as quickly as possible so we can back down and get him ready to have his torn ACL repaired. He will also be going on a medication called Mycophenolate for the autoimmune disease, and that will likely be for the rest of his life to keep it in remission. He is still going to physical therapy weekly and is still not too thrilled with the hydro treadmill. He just does not want to use his back legs to walk while in it. Might just take more time and hopefully once we can get the torn ACL repaired it will get even better. Despite all he has going on, he is still so happy and loving! He gets to spend more time out of the crate now that he is six weeks post hip surgery. Thank you to everyone for their prayers and support for Bruno! 11/2/22 – Bruno had his hip surgery on 10/18. We have been doing his exercises at home, but unfortunately he is not using the leg like he should, so we will be starting with physical therapy on 11/4. We are hopeful this will help to get the leg moving the way it should and build up some more muscle as it feels like he has lost even more muscle mass in that leg. He still needs the ACL repair to happen, but the skin needs to be figured out first. Bruno has also seen the dermatologist and she initially thought his skin issues were from an antibiotic resistant staph infection, but he has had two negative cultures. She is now thinking it could possibly be an auto immune disease, even though she did not see the cells she usually sees when doing a skin scrape in the office. We are spraying him with a topical antibiotic/steroid spray and medicated baths every 3 days. We have a skin biopsy tentatively scheduled for 11/15. We need to get the infection cleared up more before doing a biopsy otherwise it could skew the results. Poor Bruno has so much going on, but even through all of it he is so happy and loving. He will just stare lovingly into your eyes and snuggle into you. 10/12/22 - Bruno went in yesterday and was neutered and had his dental done. After dental x-rays were done, it was found that he had major bone loss around several teeth and the start of bone loss around others. Given they were so bad, as we suspected, he had to have the remaining teeth he had removed. He is doing good with no teeth and ate some food last night and breakfast this morning. The dogtor said as he was under anesthesia and she wiggled a few of the teeth his blood pressure would go up, meaning she could tell they were painful to him. His mouth should feel so much better now. We also went to see the specialist last week as his leg has become worse being on crate rest. It was decided that he will go in on 10/18 for an FHO on his worst hip and if his skin is much better at that time she will also fix the torn ACL. He cannot have any infection for that repair, so we are crossing our fingers. If not, he will have to go in when his skin is cleared up and have the ACL repair. He has been battling the skin issues since December 2021 when his savior took him out of the bad situation. The dogtor suspects it is still flea dermatitis. His skin is better, but not good enough. The hip surgery is estimated to be around $2500 right now. Despite all his ailments he is still such a happy and loving little guy. 9/21/22 – Bruno is a happy go lucky little man that you can just see the smile on his face. He loves belly rubs, lots of affection, and loves to play with toys now that he knows how to. He did not have a great start to his life by living the first years of his life in a building with several other yorkies that were just given food and water a couple of times a day and not having all the love and attention they deserved. A wonderful lady went to help his original owner clean up all the dogs and convinced her to let her take two of the pups in December 2021. When his savior brought him home he had fleas, was not using his back leg, and had a bad rash. She worked very hard to make him feel better. Due to her own health, she unfortunately had to surrender him, which is how he came to YHR. We are still working on clearing up his rash, his bloodwork is slowly improving, but he has very bad teeth that need to be cleaned. He is scheduled for his dental and neuter on 10/12. We saw the specialist today regarding his limping and lameness in his left back leg. He does have bilateral hip arthritis, restricted mobility in both hips, but he also has a torn ACL in he left knee. He is going on crate rest for about 4 weeks to see if he can build scar tissue to naturally heal it and try to avoid surgery. If that does not work, then he will need surgery to repair it. Once we get that fixed, then we will see if his mobility gets better and if not, he may need surgery on the hip to give him mobility. With the issues with the back legs, he does put more pressure on his front legs and sometimes limps on the front legs, but x-rays show there are no issues with the front legs. Bruno really is just the happiest little guy we have seen in a while. He looks like he is smiling a lot of the time. He does great riding in the car and has been doing so in a doggy car seat. His crate rest will be in a stroller, which he does not mind either. He went for a stroll last weekend in the stroller and did great. Given he is older and was never neutered nor trained to go potty outside because he peed where he lived, he does mark a lot. That likely will not change given his age, so he may need to remain in a belly band, which he is great with too. He has lost some muscle mass in his backend, so the bellybands will slip off his hips, but suspenders have worked great to keep it in place. We are not sure about him likely to cuddle given the pain he is dealing with in his knee and hips, so hopefully when that all gets fixed we can see if he is a cuddle bug too.

Story
Age: 6 years Weight: 12 lbs. Adoption Fee: $350 Fostered in Indian Trail, North Carolina Email: yorkiemommync@yahoo.com I have serious medical issues, Please Donate! 8/22/2025 - Please welcome Kuzco to Yorkie Haven. He is such a well-behaved and happy boy! He just loves everyone! Unfortunately, we have found out that Kuzco has Diabetes Insipidus Central, which happens when the hypothalamus does not produce any or enough ADH. Signs of this condition were that he was drinking a lot of water and then going potty a lot to the point where he would start peeing standing and then think he was done and start walking and he was still peeing. They can develop incontinence with this condition if not controlled. We have already tried the medication recommended for this condition and it only worked for 24 hours. We also had to recheck his electrolytes after being on the meds and they are out of whack as well. Our next step is to see an internal medicine doctor to see what they recommend we do to help him. He has been transitioned to a low sodium diet, which is recommended for his condition. Kuzco also broke one of his back legs when he was a puppy. His previous family did take him in for surgery to fix it and as he grew and it healed, the plate inside the leg moved so it had to come out. He tends to hold that leg up a lot and we can tell his other back leg bothers him too, so we are seeing a doctor to have them checked to see if there is anything we can do to help that as well. Despite all these medical ailments, Kuzco is the sweetest, most loving boy. He will give kisses, he asks to go outside, loves sleeping in bed with you and curling up on you or next to you on the couch. He is always so happy too. When his foster leaves the house, they just put a belly band on him just in case he has to go while no one is home.

Age: 7 years Weight: 9 lbs. Adoption Fee: $325.00 Fostered in Indian Trail, North Carolina Email: yorkiemommync@yahoo.com I have serious medical issues, Please Donate! 6/26/25 - Nupe is a VERY loving little boy. He wants all your love and affection. He will give you lots of kisses and even nibble on your ear. He has done great with house training and does his business outside. He loves to lay on your lap and sleep in bed with you. He needs to be in a home with female dogs or be an only dog. He has been protective of people and female dogs with other male dogs around. 4/14/25 - Nupe (said Noop) and Quba (said Kooba) are brothers and came to YHR at the same time. Their dad had to surrender them because he was working two jobs and his landlord was doubling the pet fee, so he did not have time for them like he once did. They are both very happy and loving and want all your attention. Nupe has ear infections in both ears and has some scarring in his ears from previous infections. When Nupe was 2 he jumped off an apartment one story balcony and hurt his right hip. At that time, he did have surgery, so he does not have the ball of the hip. He sometimes will drag that foot when he walks but does not appear to be in pain or discomfort. He will be getting neutered and having a dental. Once he is done with those, he will be ready for his new home.

Age: 10 years Weight: 8 lbs. Adoption Fee: $300.00 Fostered in Indian Trail, North Carolina Email: yorkiemommync@yahoo.com 6/26/25 - Jaxon came to YHR with severe heart issues. His heart is at the stage where fluid has started backing up into the lungs. He has already had a congestive heart failure episode and spent some time at the emergency vet in oxygen and on liquid meds to get the fluid out faster. The meds are helping to keep it as stable as possible and after the episode they were adjusted. We are not sure how much time Jaxon has left, but we will do everything we can to keep him happy and comfortable. He loves to eat and even lets his foster mom know when it is medicine time because he gets a treat with his meds. He asks to go outside, but if no one is home he has had accidents in the house, but that is due to the meds he is on for his heart. He loves to be with his people either laying on your lap or next to you and sleeps in bed with everyone. He loves people and barks at everyone new.
