Story
Pepper has vision. He would prefer to be the only dog. Loves people and cuddling, velcro and will follow you everywhere. Meet Pepper! Pepper was surrendered to a shelter at 13 years old. His history prior to that is unknown. He was saved from the shelter by a local organization who also started his vetting, and he came to us about two weeks later. In spite of all this, Pepper is quite a character! He has a lot of personality, definitely knows what he wants and doesn't want, and will let you know. And what he wants is this ... Pepper feels he has one very important job, and more than anything, he wants to do his job well. That job is to be. with. you. No matter where you are, day or night, Pepper wants to be with you, and he will love you with everything he has in his little 8 pound body. If he is not with you, he will not hesitate to let you know how upset he is. He's a great cuddler and would spend the entire day cuddling in my lap if he could. He would love to keep you warm on those cool fall and winter days! Shortly after arriving at his foster home, Pepper had an urgent dental (20 teeth were extracted, he has six bottom teeth remaining and will need to eat soft food for the rest of his life), was neutered, saw the ophthalmologist (he has nuclear sclerosis in both eyes and a healed corneal ulcer in his right eye), and was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), for which he takes Levothyroxine twice a day. He will need to have regular blood work to monitor his thyroid. Two lumps removed from his forehead were apocrine gland cysts and completely benign. He is nicely managed on pain medication and a joint supplement for arthritis and bilateral luxating patellas, and even runs everywhere! He's also attempted, with some success, to climb over baby gates. Pepper goes through phases where he drinks and urinates quite a bit more than usual, but testing so far has not shown a cause. Housebreaking continues to be a slow work in progress and he is unable to go through the night without urinating. Pepper is fine with the other three dogs in his foster home, but is jealous and upset if he is not getting all of the attention. The other three dogs here are timid and small like he is, and if one is where Pepper wants to be, he will just lay down on top of that dog. Pepper would prefer a home where someone is home most of the time and where he could be your only dog, or with only one other quiet small dog. Due to his size, a home without young children is recommended, and he will also require an understanding owner who is able to carefully monitor any changes in his appetite, behavior, or pottying. Pepper reminds me of a used car. He's a bit banged up, scratched, and is missing paint in some areas, but with lots of love and good maintenance, he'll keep going and going and going! :) BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

Story
Chip Grey is a 4 year old Schnauzer Yorkie mix with a sweet, funny personality to make your heart melt.  He loves to play with his foster brothers and sisters... but his favorite thing to do is sit in your lap and sleep right next to you!  He insists!  If you're watching tv or reading, he wants to be right next to you or in your lap.  He welcomes you home with bounces!   Chip loves toys and sitting at the window or door to see people go by. He walks great on a leash and does excellent on car rides.  He does shed some but with regular brushing his coat is lovely. Chip would be an ideal companion for a loving couple or individual - but in exchange he will need three things:  1)  Time to adjust to you and your home.  2) Trust that you won't let random people pick him up just becuase he's cute and little 3) Time to adjust to you and your home (bears repeating).  If you do these things you'll have a dog who'll love you unconditionally.   Meet the Adoption Criteria. Before you do anything else, make sure you meet our adoption criteria. You must be at least 21 years old. You must live within a 60-mile radius of Richardson, Texas. You must share veterinary records for all pets currently in your home and all pets owned in the last five years. All pets in the home must be spayed or neutered. If you rent your home, you must provide verification that pets are allowed on the property. You must be willing to be interviewed by an adoption counselor and you must undergo a home visit from an RHS representative. Apply. You can complete an application at an MTP event or complete it online by either clicking the button below or the “Adopt” button beneath the pet’s photo in the listings above. Phone Interview or Attend a Meet the Pets (MTP) event. This is a great opportunity to meet the pet you are interested in and see if you connect. We hold these events once a month on Saturday from 1:00-3:00 p.m. We post the pets who are expected to attend on Friday evening on our Facebook page. For exact details and locations, view our event calendar. If an event is over a week away, a counselor may contact you for a phone interview. Home Visit. If all the steps above are completed satisfactorily, we will set up a home visit where you can meet the pet you are interested in again and the pet can meet other pets in the family. We will try to send the foster parent so you can learn more about how the pet is in a home environment. Complete Adoption. If all feel it is a good match, we will schedule the adoption at MTP or an off-site location. The applicant will need to complete the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee. Our adoption fee is $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies (under 1 year) and $125 for cats. Discounts are available for senior-aged pets. APPLY HERE: www.richardsonhumanesociety.org   ##1152540##

Story
Kashie is a 3.5 to 4-year-old Yorkshire Terrier who weighs around 13 pounds. He is intelligent, playful, loving, and strong-willed. He loves walks, enjoys car rides, and combing the aisles at pet stores on the hunt for treats. He enjoys cuddling on the bed while his foster mom gets lost in romcom’s and playing pranks on his foster dad by hiding the remote in blankets. He likes to run and play in the yard with his foster siblings. He is agreeable towards cats. He requires a stable home that he can thrive in and truly be part of the family. Kashie has had a rough life and was passed from one bad home to another, through no fault of his own, as he is a great dog. Please note that we do not recommend Kashie to families with children under 5. We are a RESCUE GROUP, not a shelter, and all of our animals are in foster homes. To start the adoption process, email us at adoptions@earstexas.org requesting an application. Submitting an application does not commit you in any way, but helps us make the best match between people and our available dogs. Your current or past dogs must be inside dogs who have been spayed/neutered and are on heartworm prevention. All of the dogs in our program are inside dogs and are completely vetted including all vaccinations, spayed/neutered, free of internal parasites, microchipped, heartworm negative and on prevention before adoption. Our adoption process includes an application, check of vet records or personal references, interview, neutral site meet & greet with the dog and your family, and a home visit.

Story
Buddy was given away for free on a neighborhood app, due to being adopted 2 weeks prior and the family was not able to care for him. Buddy is so sweet. We have had him for about 1.5 yr. He knows no danger. He gets along with all of our dogs, cat, and small kids. He has cataracts and partially deaf. That does not stop him from knowing when we are eating dinner and waiting patiently for a treat. He enjoys napping and being pet. He is terrified of the sprinklers system outside. He is potty trained and as long as our dog door is open he does not have accidents. He is on thyroid meds but the vet has recently suggested changing his food which due to having 2 other senior dogs we can not figure out how to keep him from their food. This food allergen has caused his skin to flare up and we need him to be able to not be miserable scratching. He truly is such a sweet companion. We have gone to 2 vets and multiple visits and all say he needs a new diet I can not provide due to my other dogs.
