Story
This tiny little pooch is Jules, a Yorkie mix with a lot of love to give to the right people. Jules is a big fan of people and other dogs, but she needs a quiet, consistent, and predictable life to feel safe. Because of her anxiety, we believe her ideal home would be one without young children, and maybe a confident canine companion to teach her how to "dog" in her new space. Jules requires regular grooming, and currently has beauty appointments every 4 weeks. If you can keep up with her needs, please keep reading about this little sweetheart below. HISTORY Jules came to her current caretaker from another rescue and has been in that home for the past year. She has been loved and well cared for, but it has become clear that her anxiety-related needs require a different environment than her current home can provide. This decision is based on what is best for Jules long-term and not due to any behavioral problems. Her history prior to rescue is unknown, but her sensitivity to noise, separation, and confinement suggests that she did not always feel secure earlier in life. Jules is located in West Richland of SE Washington. We advertise our dogs in a variety of locations in an effort to improve their chances of finding great homes. We can assure you, this sweet girl is well worth a road trip! SOCIALIZATION Jules lives with other dogs happily, and has never had issues sharing her space, humans, affection, or food around other dogs. She does enjoy the company of older children who understand how to respect a pet and understand when she is anxious or not wanting to engage. Her ideal home would be one with another confident dog or two, and no young kids. Due to her anxiety being heavily triggered by noise in her environment, she would be happiest with teens and adults only. She LOVES going on two walks a day no matter what the weather is like. When weather is not ideal, she wears booties and coats just fine! GENERAL TEMPERAMENT AND BEHAVIOR Aside from her polite requests for a calm and predictable home, Jules has one nonnegotiable: two walks a day, minimum. She is willing to reconsider for a home with another dog that will help her get her exercise out. Jules is looking for a home where life moves at a gentle pace and predictability is the norm. A quiet household with minimal noise and activity will help her feel safe and settled. Sudden sounds, busy schedules, and constant coming and going can be overwhelming for her, so a calmer environment is important. She would do best with someone who is home most of the time and enjoys having a constant companion. Jules is not a dog who wants long stretches alone, and she finds comfort in knowing her person is nearby. A retiree, remote worker, or someone with a flexible schedule would be an excellent match for her needs. An adult-only home or one with older, calm children would be ideal, as young kids and the noise that comes with them increase her anxiety. Jules also does best without confinement. She does not tolerate crates or playpens and feels safest when she has access to a familiar, secure space in the home. TRAINING Jules is a polite pup who is used to living in a home with other dogs and people. She has general house manners and plays very well with others. She walks well on a leash, and loves to go on a stroll. Jules does not do well with crating or containment and feels most comfortable when she has freedom in a familiar, safe space. When left alone, Jules may have an accident due to anxiety as she waits for her humans to return. To help manage this and keep her comfortable, she currently wears a diaper when alone. Though she may have an occasional accident triggered by anxiety, she is known to be potty trained. Her future family should be patient, observant, and willing to meet her where she is. Someone who understands anxiety and responds with reassurance rather than correction will help Jules continue to build confidence. With the right routine, consistency, and gentle support, Jules becomes deeply bonded, affectionate, and loyal. HEALTH STATUS Jules has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and treated for parasites. She appears to be in good health, and weighs around 10 lbs. Based on available information, we’ve designated November 22, 2022. She was previously on anxiety medication, and may need it in times of heightened stress. She is especially terrified of fireworks and other loud noises.
