Story
Bona  - Currently in Vancouver!!!   Name: Bona Age: 4 years Sex: Spayed Female Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Color: Gray and Brown Weight: Approximately 4.7 kg (10.4 lbs) Height: Approximately 27 cm (10.6 inches)   Rescue Story   Bona was rescued from a closed dog meat farm in a rural village, where she was found living in a raised wire cage.   Personality & Temperament   Bona is a sweet and affectionate little dog who forms strong bonds with her people. She may be shy when meeting strangers, but she warms up quickly with treats and gentle handling.   Once she trusts you, she becomes incredibly loving, seeks attention, and happily rolls over for belly rubs.   Because of her past trauma, Bona can become defensive if she feels startled or threatened. For example, she may growl or show her teeth if someone tries to pick her up unexpectedly or reaches into her crate to pull her out. These behaviors are fear-based and have improved significantly in foster care with patience and positive reinforcement.   ‍‍‍ Social with People   Initially reserved with strangers Quickly warms up with treats Very affectionate once comfortable Can be picked up by placing arms under her belly, though she may protest if uncomfortable Has not been tested with children under 13 Due to her fear-based reactions, a home with older, respectful children or adults only is recommended   Social with Other Dogs   Bona generally prefers dogs her own size or calm, gentle companions.   She can feel intimidated by larger dogs and may become bossy or jealous with dogs she perceives as less assertive. She tends to do best as an only dog, where she can relax and receive focused attention and training.   Cat Compatibility   Bona lived with a cat for approximately six months and coexisted well overall. She may occasionally chase the cat in play, but she has shown that she can live successfully in a home with feline companions.   Energy Level   Bona has a moderate energy level.   She enjoys walks and outdoor activities, then settles down nicely at home. When excited, she can become quite enthusiastic and playful.   Walking & Leash Skills   Walks well and follows her handler Mild leash pulling Loves sniffing and marking Can panic in unfamiliar environments and may try to hide or flee   Bona must never be allowed off-leash outdoors.   Food & Resource Guarding   Bona may guard food and treats from both people and other dogs.   Her foster manages this successfully by asking her to sit and wait before meals. She may growl if something is taken away suddenly, but she responds well when redirected with another treat or toy.   Home Life   No separation anxiety May bark briefly when excited or when she wants something Crate trained More comfortable entering and staying in her crate than being physically removed from it Best to encourage her to come out on her own using a leash or treats Gets motion sickness, so fasting before car rides is recommended Fully house-trained with both pee pads and outdoor potty habits   Foster’s Notes   “Bona is incredibly affectionate and loves to cuddle, play tug, and learn with treats. She has some trauma related to handling around her hindquarters and being picked up unexpectedly, but she continues to improve with trust and positive reinforcement.   She can become jealous around other dogs and seems calmer and easier to train as the only pet. She may nip when frightened, but she does not bite hard. Because of her small teeth, it usually results in only a scratch. A home with adults or older children who understand her boundaries would be ideal.”   Ideal Home   Bona would thrive in a patient home that:   Understands fear-based behaviors Uses positive reinforcement training Respects her boundaries Provides a calm environment Preferably has no young children May be best as an only dog   With time, trust, and consistency, Bona blossoms into a loving and devoted companion. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Cupcake, a sweet senior Yorkie with a heart as big as her name is adorable.  Born around March 18, 2018, and weighing just 9.7 pounds, this little lady has quite the story to tell. Cupcake was found wandering alone down a deserted country road, covered in painful mats and stickers, clearly having been through a tough time. Despite everything she endured, her gentle spirit never faded. After getting the care she desperately needed—including grooming and the removal of several rotten teeth—Cupcake has made an incredible comeback and is now thriving in her new chapter. Today, Cupcake is happy, healthy, and full of life. She loves going on walks, enjoys spending time with her doggy friends, and walks beautifully on a leash. She’s also fully potty trained, both on a potty pad and during walks, making her an easy and wonderful companion. Cupcake is ready to find her forever home where she can be cherished and spoiled like she deserves. Her adoption fee is $300, and you can apply to adopt her at www.adoggie4you.org . If you’re looking for a loyal, loving companion with a resilient spirit, Cupcake might just be your perfect match This dog is currently in Texas; however, it can be transported to Washington, Portland (Oregon), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington KY or all along the East Coast. If transported, there is an additional transport fee of $225. We do not transport to Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to their regulations.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 20, 2026, 10:03 am
