Story
Magnolia is a young (born 8.14.22) spayed female Akita. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, on flea/heartworm prevention, heartworm negative, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Magnolia first came to our attention when she was listed on Craigslist as "FREE - Urgent Sick Puppy In Need Of Fenced Yard". Basically, she had been purchased by a back yard pitbull breeder, with the intent to breed her and create pit/Akita crosses, in Washington DC. She had been kept in a crate constantly, leading to pressure sores and urinary problems. We scrambled to find transport, but when we found some and went to contact the poster, the post was gone. A few days later, a new post appeared. Some kind person had rescued the puppy from the previous owner, but was not equipped to keep her. We reached out to them and quickly arranged transport for the puppy. The poor puppy hadn't even come with a name (though we later discovered it had been River, but felt she needed a new one), let alone any medical records. The rabies tag she was wearing belonged to a miniature Poodle from a vet practice in Maryland that had never even seen the Akita puppy. Magnolia is now safe with us, recovering medically, and learning how to live like a normal pup and interact with people. She is super sweet and LOVES playing with other dogs, but is still shy with people. She would do well in a home with a male canine companion.

Cato came to us from a family who could no longer care for him. He's a sweet loveable goof who would do well as an only dog, or *maybe* with the right, mellow female.

He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Valerian was surrenderd to the shelter in Chesapeake, VA when the owner could no longer care for him. He had previously lived outside in a pen and was uncertain and stand off-ish when he first came to us, but he warmed up to a goofy, woo-ing, wiggle butt boy. He is just so sweet! Valerian would be fine in a home with children 12+ due to his high energy level and as an only pet.

Story
AEGON - 6 years old, 50 pounds, house trained, good with kids/dogs,  Fluffy AEGON was surrendered (along with two other huskies) when their owner was no longer able to care for them. Both of his bros have been adopted so let's get this good looking boy a new home as well. Aegon is calm, relaxed and easy going. He is used to be an active member of his family, hanging out with them free to roam while everyone is around. He can also be trusted to roam free when left alone. He doesn't care what kind of toy he has, he will play! Ball, frisbee, plush toy...you name it, Aegon will play with it! He is friendly and calm when around respectful children. We introduced him into our shelter playgroup. We gave proper introductions and saw a boy who might need some time getting used to another dog. He did give proper corrections when others approached too quickly or if they sniffed a bit too much. We are told Aegon is protective around his food and should be fed by himself.  Huskies can be a fun and exciting breed. Do your research so you are well aware of what Aegon will need in a new home moving forward and then come out to meet him! He is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 6, 2025, 10:05 am

Story
Nugget is a fun-loving, one-year-old Siberian Husky mix who is ready to find an active forever home to call his own. With his striking looks and playful personality, Nugget is sure to steal your heart. He is still learning the ropes when it comes to obedience and leash manners, so he is looking for a patient and committed family that can help guide him as he grows. Because of his enthusiasm and ongoing training, Nugget would do best in a home with children eight and older, and he will need to meet any resident dogs before adoption to ensure a good fit. Nugget absolutely loves to run, jump, and play. He is happiest when he is on the move. An active home where he can burn off his energy and enjoy plenty of mental stimulation would be the perfect match. Nugget is not quite suited for first-time dog owners just yet, but with guidance and consistency, he has so much potential. Our team is happy to provide a list of local trainers to help set him up for success. If you are looking for a spirited and adventurous pup who is eager to learn and full of love, Nugget might be the one for you. Come meet him and speak with a Kennel Technician who will be happy to assist.

Story
PUPPY GIO! GIO - 6-8 months old, 20 pounds, house trained, dog and kid social  Beautiful girl Gio was surrendered when her family moved and couldn't bring her along. Not even a year old, this girl is house trained and knows to sit for a treat. She is eager to please you! She loves attention and loves to be near you. Dog social is a perfect description for her! She loves running, chasing, and hanging with other friendly dogs. Although she took corrections very well from others when they felt she was too much for them, she did seem to have her feelings hurt. But she bounced back quickly!  Gio loves to play with toys, all kinds. She is used to being walked several times a day and this is really important for puppies. They have tons of energy and need a positive way to expend this energy. Playtime, walks, and training are all great ways to do this. Gio is scared of loud noises. Who isn't?!? When left alone, Gio knows hanging in a crate but let's not let this time be too long! Gio is a happy and healthy and energetic young girl ready to find a new home with a family to match! She is currently in our medium dog adoption kennel so come on in to meet her!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 6, 2025, 10:05 am
