Acquired: 2.8.20 Adopted: 4.70.20 Returned: 7.30.22 Gabby is a young (born 9.14.19) spayed female Akita. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Gabby came to us with her parents, Kiyoko and Keito, and her two brothers, Gabe and Gordon. They had all been left in the care of a friend of their owner when he fell on hard times. After several months, he told the friend to go ahead and find somewhere for them to go. Gabby was adopted out in 2020, but returned due to a tragedy in the family. She would do well in a home by herself or with the right male, canine friend.

Onyx is an adult born (12.3.16) neutered male Akita. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, on flea/heartworm prevention, heartworm negative, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Onyx was surrendered with his friend, Xena, by their owners who could no longer care for them. Onyx is a very sweet dog and we are still assessing his social skills with dogs other than Xena.

Story
Valerian is an adult (born approx 4.1.17) neutered male Akita. He is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, heartworm negative, on flea/heartworm prevention, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Valerian was surrenderd to the shelter in Chesapeake, VA when the owner could no longer care for him. He had previously lived outside in a pen and was uncertain and stand off-ish when he first came to us, but he warmed up to a goofy, woo-ing, wiggle butt boy. He is just so sweet! Valerian would be fine in a home with children 12+ due to his high energy level and as an only pet.

Lucy is a young (born 5.15.20) spayed female Akita. She is up to date on vaccines, microchipped, on flea/heartworm prevention, heartworm negative, house trained, crate trained, and leash trained. Lucy comes to us from the SPCA of North Eastern NC where her owner was caught on camera dumping her at a local storage center. Lucy is very sweet, but does need some additional leash training. Currently, Lucy needs a home with no children under the age of 18 and no other dogs, this is subject to change after vetting.

Vladimir found himself in Loudon County Animal shelter after his family unfortunately lost their housing. Vladimir is a good kid who has some anxiety that we are working through. Vladimir requires a home where he can be the only dog.

Lulu found herself at our local shelter after her family had relocated. Diesel is Lulu’s former housemate and does well with him other male dogs. They are not a bonded pair and can go together or separately.

Hello friends. Ozzy is roughly four years old and came to us from a neighbor who had to move into a nursing home. We agreed to take him in until we could find a good home but fell in love with him ourselves. Unfortunately due to recent health issues of our own, we had to make the difficult decision to re-home Ozzy after all. He came with no paperwork, but we did have his shots updated shortly before moving to VA less than six months ago. Ozzy is a loving and protective inside dog who likes to be close by. He rarely barks and only howls when he needs to go outside He is a bit anxious at times but can also be left alone in or out of the crate whenever we have to go to the store. He has never had an accident inside. His growl comes out when he plays and can be a bit intense at first but it is only his way of being protective or playful. He has never show any sign of aggression whatsoever. We hope to find Ozzy a good home with a loving family.

***THIS IS A COURTESY POST --Sweet boy who loves to be with people & dogs. Enjoys walks and short car rides. Needs to be in AC for his frequent naps! Good with house training routine, will nudge you to let him out. Blu's family lost their home & were unable to keep him. This is the only home Blu ever knew. UTD on vaccines, 9 yrs old, 73 lb, neutered. NO CHICKEN in his diet. HW negative. Would be best to have someone home with him due to some separation anxiety. A gated room is more soothing than a closed door for his comfort. Contact Isle of Wight Animal Control, 757-365-6318 to meet Blu.
