Story
HI - I'M MISTO! I am a young (about a year old) husky-shepherd mix rescued from a crowded California shelter not too long ago. I was terrified there -- I mean really scared. I wouldn't even come up to greet people. But after a few days out of there, my sunshine personality came out! I'm a loving, dog-friendly boy who would do well with another dog in the home, or as an only dog, too. I love to play and am happy! Change is a bit scary for me so I would do well with both a patient and active person, who could take me for walks, hikes and other outings. I have the most beautiful blue eyes, and I weigh about 50 lbs. Please email for an application! I currently need a foster or forever home.

Story
Meet Stormy, the husky. You may be wondering why Stormy is missing hair. Well, Stormy came into the Shelter after her prior guardian was unable to continue caring for her. Stormy was an indoor dog who also had access to a securely fenced in backyard. She lived with another dog and a dog-savvy cat and did well with them. Over time, Stormy started to itch and bite at her skin. Her previous guardian did not have the resources to take her to the vet. After realizing how uncomfortable Stormy was, she wanted her to get the help she needed so she surrendered her to the Shelter. The medical team has gotten Stormy on the road to recovery with some oral and topical treatments to help her feel better. Despite her condition, she has been social and tolerant of handling and treatments. As an older gal, she is easy going. She still enjoys her walks and has met other dogs without issue. Stormy’s next adopter will need to be an individual who has the resources (time, finances, etc) to take in a senior dog with medical. This will require more frequent vet visits, especially while working with their veterinarian to get her skin feeling better. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
MEET TENOR & BASS! This happy and loving duo has waited much too long for a home. They are a loving, fun pair of playful dogs who need a foster or forever home! They are very affectionate toward people, and love, love, love each other. They are likely brothers, who found themselves at a crowded California shelter with no adoption interest. Fortunately they were rescued but still haven't found a home yet. They must be adopted together as they are extremely bonded. Both are almost 7 years old. Bass, the brown-and-white pup, weighs only 55 lbs., and Tenor (tan and white) weighs about 60 lbs. They are fun, active pups who love to run, play and snuggle. They would love to be adopted by someone who could take them on hikes, walks and other outings. They currently play with each other for entertainment but it'd be great for them to branch out and see the world. Bass & Tenor love to jump up and give kisses. They are not super friendly with other dogs, so should be the only dogs in the home - but they have plenty of love to give and will be grateful to whomever adopts them. If you can foster or adopt Bass & Tenor, please email for an application.
