Story
Sable is a very unique girl. While her pictures make her appear to be a full-sized husky, she only weights 20-25 pounds. Please don’t expect her to get any larger. Sable came from a hoarding case involving a husky breeder who got overwhelmed. They contacted their local shelter for help, and they contact rescues for help. Sable was one of 50+ huskies on the property. In cases like this, the dogs are usually very unsocialized, lack basic manners, and traumatized by their sudden change in environment. They are expected to be a well behaved house dog, and that wasn’t the life they were sold. Sadly, Sable fell victim to emotional neglect. She does not understand life as an indoor dog, and therefore, prefers to spend time outside. She is very curious about her new routine and has the willingness to learn. She wants to be loved and enjoys romping and playing in the backyard with adults and kids. Sable was starved during her time with the breeder. She had to fight dogs, much larger than her, if she wanted to make it. This resulted in her guarding her food anytime a dog or person tries to take it. We are working with her to overcome this fear/issue. Because she didn’t know when she would get fed again, she feels the need to protect it. Please understand she has not bitten anyone over food and this can be solved with guidance and training. Sable is scared of other dogs. The only dogs she knew were the ones kept on the same property as her. Introduction is key . We do believe she can thrive in a multi dog home, but she needs the right family and handler to acclimate her. This will not happen overnight!!!!!!! Lastly, and most importantly, Sable is a wonderful girl. She gives kisses and wants so badly to trust someone and break free from her ordeal. All she knows is a life of defending herself. She is guarded but not a lost cause. She can be properly socialized because she is still young and eager to please. Remember, sable is a very small girl for her breed. Her behavior can be managed and improved in the right hands. Story
Meet Stella Stella is one of three dogs rescued from a backyard breeding situation, where she was living in poor conditions with little human interaction and no prior vet care. Unsurprisingly, she tested positive for heartworm, but she has now completed treatment, been spayed, and recently had a groom, so she’s feeling better and looking her best. When Stella first arrived in her foster home, she was anxious, pacing and struggling to relax. While she bonded with her foster dad, she was fearful of others and needed time, structure, and a change of environment to reset. We brought in our trusted trainer, Daniel, who has been working with her through a board-and-train program while also fostering her. Stella is now living in a household with three adults, a toddler, a dog, and a cat, and she’s learned to trust her new pack. While still a bit timid in new situations, she’s gaining confidence every day. Stella is crate-trained, leash-trained, and doing well with house training. She thrives on a consistent routine with regular potty breaks and has no accidents in her crate, showing she’s relearned to keep her space clean. She’ll do best with a gradual transition to full roam privileges. Daniel has also begun working on her socialization outside the home. She’s been on neighborhood walks and even to pet stores to build confidence in new environments, and she continues to improve with consistent exposure. The world is still new to Stella, so she’ll thrive with a patient adopter in a calm home who can provide structure and continue building her confidence. She’s incredibly sweet, has a happy personality, and the cutest little prance you’ve ever seen.
