Story
Sky is an 10 year old Siberian Husky. I’m looking for a loving home for her. She loves chew toys, bones, and tons of cuddles. She might have a slight addition to belly rubs lol. Sky is fully house trained and very friendly with people, including young children. She takes a while to warm up to other dogs, but once she does, she is just as loving and cuddly. If you have any additional questions, just let me know. I look forward to hearing from you.

Story
Meet Hibiscus, affectionately known as Bisky by her foster family. Bisky was found wandering as a very pregnant and thin stray dog and ended up in a rural county shelter in SC. She gave birth to her puppies at the shelter, which is not a safe environment for her or her puppies who are so vulnerable at such a young age. Thankfully, one of our volunteers became aware of the situation and offered to foster the family and get them to a safe environment.  Bisky has been in her foster home for over 2 months now learning what home life, comfort, and security are all about. Her puppies have all been weaned and she’s been spayed. Motherhood is behind her now, and she’s ready to start her new life. Briskly is currently living with another dog and two cats, and does well as part of a pack. When she first arrived, everything was new to her, but she’s acclimated well to home life and her foster parents have been taking her on outings to get some social exposure outside the home. She’s still very young and learns quickly, and her primary aim in life is to be cuddled up in your lap…she’s very people-oriented.  We checked in with her foster mom, Britany, for a Q&A about Bisky: How does she do as part of your pack? Bisky LOVES to play with our pup, Mowgli. She has met large, excited, calm, and small dogs - she gets the zoomies but gives them their own space. She has been in a home with cats and does great inside with them. However, she will chase cats if she’s off-leash and sees them outside. I don’t think she would harm a cat, but her prey drive does kick in when they run outside. She will chase, but again, when she catches up she just sniffs them and wants to play. Do you think she would be better in a home with dogs or fine as an only dog too? I think she would do fine in either situation. She LOVES people. She wants to be held, in a lap, or rolling around for belly rubs, but she really likes other dogs too. I think she would thrive in a home with a playmate to follow and learn from. Her personality is timid initially when experiencing new things. She comes out of her shell when she sees people she remembers. It only takes a few days though and she is ready to romp. How are her house manners? She is an adolescent pup, we think closer to a year old. She’s still learning basic commands, but is very food-motivated and wants to make her people happy. She is quiet in the house and has no issues being left alone. She likes puppy puzzles but does need the chew-resistant options as she begins trying to shred the lick mats.   She is housetrained and crate-trained and will let us know she needs to go out but she means in that very moment- so a bark means “I need to go now!”.  She sleeps and eats in her crate, and is quiet when hearing other animals and people nearby. As a young dog, she needs someone committed to her daily exercise and stimulation.  Would you say she's an active, moderate energy, or more mellow dog? Overall, she has a medium energy level but seems to adapt to her environment really well. She loves running and would make an excellent companion for someone who enjoys time outdoors. However, she also enjoys mellow evenings inside. Leash walking skills? We go for walks in our neighborhood regularly. She does a great job on the leash even with distractions. She does not pull but sometimes will still walk right under your feet. No reactivity or issues walking near other dogs. Very loud noises will make her get closer to the person walking her, but I have not observed a flight response. The areas we have walked her have high foot traffic, other animals, and cars - she did great with all of that. Have you seen her around kids? Yes, she did great with a toddler and an older child. How would you describe her personality? Bisky is so loving and snuggly. She just wants to be loved. She is shy for a few days with new people but only in the sense that you won't see her full personality until she trusts you. She will still approach strangers for attention but is timid/submissive about it. She is not snappy or nervous. She will still wag her tail and lower her head. She is really the sweetest girl. Once she warms up, she bounces around like a kangaroo! ******** If you are ready to add a very sweet, young submissive pup to your pack who is both adaptable and an ideal size, Bisky is your girl!   BREED ESTIMATE: Huskyish Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT:  38 lbs (need to gain a few lbs - 45lbs at goal weight) APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 1 to 1.5 years old COAT TYPE:  Medium coat ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION:  Centreville, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Meet Polar Bear (PB)!  PB and her siblings were born at a rural shelter in SC after their mom, Bisky, was found roaming as a stray. The shelter is not a safe environment for puppies who are so vulnerable and don’t have mature immune systems or vaccinations to protect them. Thankfully, one of our volunteers became aware of the situation and offered to foster the family and get them to a safer environment. Bisky and her puppies were taken into a foster home when they were only a week old and had a very secure, nurturing home life with their mom and siblings. They spent their first formative weeks in a home with a foster mom and dad, another adult dog, and two kitties. They’ve had exposure to toddlers and multiple visits to the vet office to meet their many friends. Their foster mom worked at a local vet practice, so they have been given great care and had a lot of social engagement at this young age.   ADOPTION UPDATE - 7/8/24 Polar Bear arrived over the weekend and is being fostered in Arlington, VA by Beth, Joe, and their WDR alum pup, Harper. We checked in with Beth for an update to see how Polar Bear is settling in… “Polar Bear (PB) is so sweet. She loves to play and explore. She is also content to snuggle up and nap while I’m working or sit on the couch and cuddle while we watch TV. She has a nice, moderate energy level and is also extremely intelligent. She learned how to climb the stairs by watching Harper and comes EVERY time she is called. We gave her a peanut butter treat a few times when she went in the crate and now she runs up and into the crate every time we go upstairs. She’s food-motivated and is going to be an easy dog to train. PB follows Harper! She runs after her in the yard and copies her. She is puppy-curious and loves to explore the house and the yard. She’s still a little hesitant to play with Harper because Harper is much larger and plays rough. But Harper has been modulating and they have started to play together.  We've gone on a few outings and PB does great in the car too! She has been doing well with potty training and has settled into our routine quickly.  We take her out every two hours and she goes to the bathroom reliably. It has prevented accidents. She slept through the night last night without needing to go out (!!!) and will run to her crate after I give her a few treats. She’s new to leash walking and we started working on her leash skills yesterday. I suspect she will pick it up quickly. She’s a very sweet, laid-back puppy.” ********** Polar Bear is a cuddly, playful good-natured puppy ready to start her new life. She is such a pretty, elegant pup, and has a striking cream-colored coat like her mom, Bisky. She loves meeting new people and other dogs and is good with cats and kids too.  We are looking for a fun, active family that has a flexible schedule and is ready for puppy mode. A family with another social, playful pup in the home would be great for PB, but it’s not required. We expect PB to be an active, medium-sized dog like her mom (45 to 50 lbs) when fully grown. Like all puppies, she will need an owner committed to her basic training.  Preference will be given to adopters with: Flexible, puppy-friendly schedule Another social dog in the home (preferred but not required) An active home in the DC metro and surrounding area Polar Bear is still too young to be spayed, but having her spayed at the appropriate age will be required as part of her adoption terms. We will require that proof of spay is provided to the rescue. Apply today! BREED ESTIMATE: Husky Mix GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: ~  17 lbs (expected to be 45-50lbs at full size) APPROXIMATE AGE:  ~  14 weeks old  COAT TYPE:  short ADOPTION FEE: $400 OTHER INFO: utd on shots/microchipped FOSTER LOCATION: Arlington, VA   FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to https://adopt.worthydog.org and complete the application. Story
Brooklyn is a 5 year old male husky mix. He has a history of trauma before we adopted him. He’s a very active dog, well behaved at home, smart, can be trained to do many commands. Knows basic commands. He’s leash reactive and can be aggressive towards other dogs. We’re rehoming him because we can’t give him the care he needs. He needs a big yard, lots of exercise, walks. A perfect house for him is the house with no kids or dogs.
