Story
🐻 Meet Bear—the Alaskan Malamute who takes his name and his belly rubs very seriously.Bear is a young adult, neutered male with approximately 50 pounds of fluff, energy, and complete goofball behavior. He is house-trained, microchipped, does well when left alone, and will politely stand by the door and whine when he needs to go outside.Bear has lived successfully with dogs, cats, and children. He loves people, enjoys playing, and needs an active home that understands northern breeds and can give him plenty of exercise and attention. He can be protective of his food around other animals and may growl if they get too close, so he should be fed separately and given space during meals. He has never bitten anyone. Bear is also currently behind on vaccinations, which his new family will need to update. His current owner is facing a heartbreaking housing change and cannot take him along. This is not Bear’s fault—he is deeply loved, and she wants to find a family prepared to make him a permanent part of their lives.Bear’s only nonnegotiable requirement? Belly rubs. Lots of them.An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Story
Meet Martin 🐺This larger than life fella is a Husky/Malamute mix who came to us after his previous owner was no longer able to care for him. Like many dogs of this breed mix, he can be quite the talker, but that’s all a part of his charming “wolfy” personality. Underneath that big voice is an even bigger baby who just wants attention, companionship, and a home to call his own. Martin does have some separation anxiety and does not do the best when being left alone for an extended period of time. He is also possessive of his belongings and has a tendency to nip, though none of his nips have ever broken skin. Because of this, we do not recommend he be in a home with children. He also cannot be in a home with cats. He does get along with most other dogs, though they would need to be fed separately. Martin is definitely a dog that needs some training and consistency, but with a bit of work? This big fluffball is a very willing participant of any adventures you’re needing a furry plus 1 for, and he will happily be your spoiled companion. 🐾

Story
Hi there! My name is Jules, and I’m a beautiful 5½-year-old female Husky mix who has been in and out of the shelter since December 2024. I’m more than ready to find a family to call my own!I love car rides, long walks, stuffies, and enrichment toys. One of my favorite things is tearing up cardboard and toys—it may look messy, but it helps me burn energy and leaves me feeling happy and relaxed afterward!I’d do best as the only pet in the home because I want all of your love and attention. I promise I’ll make it worth your while with my fun personality and loyal companionship!I’ve been waiting a long time for my forever family, and I hope they come find me soon. If you think we could be the perfect match, please come meet me! ❤️
