Story
If you like leisurely walks and cuddles then I’m the girl for you! I am a very loving girl. I do, sometimes, take a little bit to warm up to new people but it doesn't take long, especially if you have treats! I love my treats. I'd do best in a home as an only dog. I have lived with cats and did very well with them. General Socialization Notes: I am timid and sometimes get scared by noises or other dogs barking at me on walks but all I need is a little reassurance and then I relax. I am well trained, know all my basic cues and have no issues being left in the house by myself, I normally just sleep the entire time. I love attention and snuggling up to people. I also love car rides. I’m a very good girl and am very low maintenance. Does Elphaba like other animals? I’m dog selective and would probably do best in a home as the only dog, sometimes when dogs are barking at me during walks, I get my hackles up and try to pull away because I’m scared. When this happens, I do listen to my human and am able to be redireceted pretty easily. I have lived with cats and done just fine so that is definitely an option. Does Elphaba like children? I do love children but haven’t had much exposure to them, I would be fine in a house with children as long as there is monitoring and I have an adult human to help me adjust. Favorite Toys: I love fetch and playing with lots of toys. I sometimes get the zoomies and just want you to play with me and my toy, when I’m like this, I’m really cute and fun, after playing, I like to nap. Ideal Forever Home: I'd need a family that is willing to work with me and continue to train. I’m looking for a home that can take me for short walks and humans that want to spend time with me. I am a very sweet, low maintenance dog that likes to be around people and I can’t wait to meet my forever family!

Story
Meet Jim (aka Jimbo or Jimmy to his foster family) Jimbo is an incredible dog with a story of strength and resilience. After undergoing a hind leg amputation, this brave boy has bounced back with full confidence—and just the right amount of spunk. His gentle, loving nature makes him a joy to be around, and he’s proven to be a true gentleman with dogs of all sizes and kids as young as 5. That said, Jimmy is a big boy who doesn’t always recognize his own strength. Smaller children could easily get knocked over in his excitement, especially during playtime—he can be a little mouthy when he's having fun. Nothing aggressive, just goofy enthusiasm! He’s also a smart cookie who knows sit, paw, and how to look cute (his specialty). Jim is fully house-trained, non-destructive, and trustworthy with free roam of the house when left alone. He enjoys shorter strolls, but don’t be fooled—if a squirrel or rabbit crosses his path, he’s ready for a quick, joyful sprint! One of Jimbo’s favorite things is simply lounging outside. He can spend hours soaking up the sun on the porch, content and quiet—unless a new dog comes by to say hi, in which case he’ll offer a polite bark of greeting. Jim prefers to enjoy his meals without company and can be protective of his food if other dogs approach his bowl. This is easily managed by feeding him separately—either in another room or in his crate—where he’s comfortable and relaxed. With a simple routine in place, mealtime is smooth and stress-free for everyone. With his sweet spirit, playful heart, and charming personality, Jimmy is an amazing dog who truly deserves a wonderful forever home. Could that be with you? This pup was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Jim had a dislocated hip when he entered the shelter. He had an FHO surgery that was unsuccessful so ended up needing an amputation. Jim was previously adopted, but surrendered to a local shelter months later due to the adopters moving. We scooped him back up and are looking for the perfect home!  Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" - https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639 ##2353880##

He’s a sweetie pie! He lived with my parents for a while but I ended up taking him since he’s more of an inside dog, I’m not able to tend to his needs anymore, just because of financial problems. He’s been around lots of kids, different ages at family gatherings. We have had other dogs before, smaller ones which he’s done well with! No fee is needed to adopt him.

Story
Atreus was born and raised in Texas, on a military base. He's almost 2 yrs old, My son and his friends who are in the army got him as a puppy. They didn't have the time to really train him properly. He is house and kennel trained. He follows most directions when prompted with treats. He's a loveable, happy, strong, busy Boy! He needs a lot of attention, a family who can walk, run and play with him. He loves to fetch sticks and toys. He's got a lot of energy and doesn't want to stop jumping or chewing on us, even though he is gentle the strength behind him makes it difficult to handle. He's careful with my grandkids he runs around playing with them and is very protective of them. The base in Texas band bullies on base so he got dropped off with me, I m in Parker, Co.Just had my knee replaced and I'm not strong enough to walk him.

9825100 - Meet Charlotte (a.k.a. Charlie)! Charlie is a 9-week-old American Bulldog mix with a bold, adventurous spirit. She’s the most outgoing pup in her litter—always the first to explore and try something new. Charlie loves romping around with her siblings and playing with the other dogs in her foster home, keeping everyone entertained with her lively personality. While she isn’t quite as snuggly as her sisters, Charlie still loves to show her affection in her own way—by curling up on your feet or settling down beside you after a fun day of play. This sweet, curious girl is ready to bring both energy and love into her forever home. To adopt Charlie, please complete an application at www.sloppykisses.org/adoptions! ##2511683##

Story
HOMEOWNERSHIP REQUIRED!!!  Dude, where's my dog? Oh wait, Dude is right in front of you! Sweet!  This sweet boy is an 8-year-old American Bulldog mix weighing in at 70 pounds of pure love. Seriously, we sometimes wonder if the amount of love he has is bigger than his body can hold! Dude is all about people - he loves them in every shape, size, and age. However, because he's a bit of a potato (in the best way), we recommend a home without small children, as he might accidentally knock them over. Dude is a training graduate, and boy, does he have some impressive skills! He's mastered commands like sit, and he's learned to sit at doorways, when greeting people, and even on walks when stopped, all through hand signals. This smart pup also knows down, stay, heel, come, and release, making him quite the obedient companion.  To keep this big-hearted boy happy and thriving, he'll do best in an active home with people who can exercise him daily, both physically and mentally. He absolutely adores going on walks and does great on a leash, especially when his leader helps him stay true to his training. With proper stimulation, exercise, and a whole lot of love, Dude will shower you with more love, wiggles, and joy than you can imagine! So, if you're interested in meeting Dude, don't hesitate to apply today. He's waiting to fill your life with endless happiness! Adoption fee includes the following: Spay/Neuter Rabies Vaccination Distemper / Parvo Vaccines (includes series of 3 for puppies) Bordetella Microchip with prepaid lifetime registration Deworming ##397211##

Story
Ariel is an active, affectionate dog who loves running, playing frisbee, and cuddling in bed with her people. She rides well in the car, is crate trained, and has historically been potty trained, but will need help getting back on a consistent routine. She has lived with children though she can lack spatial awareness with young children and may accidentally knock them over. She lived with another dog when she was younger and was noted to play rough so slow and proper intros to new dogs will be important and she doesn`t enjoy dog parks. She does show some anxiety when left alone for extended periods (around 3–4 hours), which can lead to whining and chewing furniture or scratching doors.

Story
I'm a 9yyr old Boxer mix and whatever you’re doing, WE’RE doing together. I have a tough exterior but honestly, I just want to be around you. I am pretty cautious around new people however, I'm easily won over with treats. I just want to hang out with my people. I'm very calm and low energy 90% of the time. The other 10% is full on sassy personality. Don't you dare leave me at home if you go out to get coffee! I NEED a pup cup! When we're hanging out, I'll follow you everywhere like a shadow. When you're gone, I'll patiently wait to greet you with the excitement of best friends who haven't seen each other in years. I bark at new noises and I'll let you know somebody is at the door before they are able to knock. I'd do best in a home as an only dog. Breed: Boxer /Mix Color: Brown/Chocolate - with White I'm very good at just hanging out and blending into your routine. I like to wake up with you in the morning, eat with you, go with you to get coffee (so I can get a pup cup of course) and just generally be around you throughout the day. I know basic cues but I'm definitely not perfect. I'm also super sassy occasionally and will have a full on conversation with you. I'm terrified of people who are afraid of me. They make me feel very uncomfortable and I just struggle to be around people like that. I don't exactly “beg” for food but I will get close to you in hopes of getting a treat. I love my treats! I'm really great about letting you know I need to go outside to potty. I will scratch at the door to get your attention. No other animals please. I do best when I can just hang out with my humans and relax. I had a sister doggo but that was years ago and since then, I am reactive to other animals. I MIGHT be able to adjust although it would take the perfect circumstances and some extreme patience with introductions. I really like children from about 10 years old and up. I love to play “Blanket Monster” where my little humans hide under the blanket as I run around and nibble at them and try to uncover them. This always leads to hysterical laughter and a good time for all. I'm very gentle with my little humans. Younger kids scare me so I'd do best in a home without them. I don't really play with toys. I get my enjoyment from walkies, food time, pup cups and sun bathing followed by more walkies. My Ideal forever home is a family with older kids where somebody is almost always (if not always) home. A stay at home parent, a human that works from home, or a schedule that means I always have a human to hang out with is best. I would like a house with a yard (doesn't have to be big) where I can roam around the backyard and sunbathe whenever I feel like it. My ideal humans would be able to continue to feed me a fresh food diet. It's what has helped me stay so healthy and the food is SO GOOD! I need somebody who understands I'm an amazing doggo who just happens to be particular about certain things. I look forward to us getting to know each other!

Story
“From the side of the highway to your home!" I am a goofy, loving, energetic ball of fun and I love playing with balls and toys. I do take time to build trust with new people and situations so I'd need someone very patient. I would need a home without small children. General Socialization Notes: I am fearful of new situations (new people, new dogs,) which presents as barking and backing away. I have been taking training classes to help build my confidence. I am extremely food motivated. I am getting much better at meeting new people especially when they have treats! I am potty trained and crate-trained. I sleep through the night and love my routine. Does Penny like other animals? I love playing with my 5-year old foster dog brother. He is a well-socialized friend and has a calm demeanor. I do want to chase small animals (rabbits and squirrels) on walks, so I'd likely not do well with small dogs, cats, or other small pets in the home. Does Penny like children? Younger children would be too unpredictable for me, but I might do well with older teens who are calm and take the time to build my trust. Favorite Toys: I love Kongs filled with treats (I'll spend hours working on them.) I really enjoy running through sprinklers. I also love tennis balls, and any squeaky toys to play fetch with. Ideal Forever Home: I need someone who is used to shy dogs like me. I'd love space to play outside and I'd need someone committed to continuing my training so I keep improving and building trust. I'd do well with a larger, well socialized dog. No small children please.
