Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Porkchop!! This handsome dude is around 7 years old, and 60 pounds of personality! Porkchop is seeking a super stable home, with an experienced dog owner.  He can be your couch potato partner if you bribe him with belly rubs, or your backyard companion helping to rid the yard of birds and squirrels (and tennis balls, too!).  Porkchop is super food motivated, so it was easy to train him to sit and we know he'll do great learning lots of other new commands.  He loves to be with his person, and can be somewhat standoffish with new people or situations.  Porkchop will need to be your only dog in the home, or possibly paired with a very docile and confident larger female dog.  Pushy or over friendly dogs don't mesh well with his personality.  No kids or cats for Porkchop, please! Porkchop can be  a vocal dog, he will talk and grumble at you to let you know what he's thinking - we think it’s pretty cute!  Porkchop's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip and current vaccinations and preventatives PLUS a free basic obedience course at Cedar Run Company in Hiawatha.  Last Hope requires that potential adopters current animals be altered, current on vaccinations and preventatives and be kept as indoor pets only.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and a home visit.  Please submit an adoption application for consideration through our website.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 6, 2026, 2:39 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.BB is a 50lb bundle of energy who's looking for the right home to help him shine. This affectionate pup is a fun-loving, loyal guy who is eager to learn and share adventures. BB is a fairly easy walker who enjoys exploring the park and splashing around in natural waters (pools just aren't really his thing). He would thrive with someone who's home more often than not - he's not a huge fan of being left in his kennel for long stretches. BB has lots of enthusiasm for life and would do best with the company of a playful dog companion, close to his size that is confident and calmer than he is. However, he would also do well as an only pet. When it comes to other animals, he is not a match with smaller dogs or cats. We aren't exactly sure what BB's breed mix is, our volunteers have speculated that he sort of looks and acts like an XL Boston Terrier! Pictures don't do this cutie justice, he really is adorable!  This boy is very food motivated and already knows "sit" and "shake." He loves to play ball and his own version of "catch me if you can," but he is also pretty good about giving up his toys when asked. He is still working on staying calm and keeping four paws on the ground, but with consistency and positive reinforcement, he'll make great progress. With that being said, he would not be a match for a home with young children. With the right outlet for his energy and plenty of love, BB will make a fun and loyal companion. BB's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives. Also included in the adoption fee is a free basic training course at Cedar Run #2 in Hiawatha. Last Hope requires that all animals be kept as indoor only pets and that adopters have a history of having kept their pets altered and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. If you are interested in meeting BB, please fill out an adoption application on our website adopthope.org. The adoption process includes a background check, vet history check, and a home visit. Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.September 15, 2025, 2:04 pm

Story
Grayson came to us as a hungry stray, and it’s clear life hadn’t been especially kind to him before that. We`ve been getting to know him day by day and thus far have learned he’s silly, expressive, and has the impeccable comedic timing of a dog who knows exactly how to make people laugh! If you’ve ever lived with a bulldog, you already know being ignored is practically part of the breed standard. Grayson holds true to that as a personality trait. He does respond well with consistency, patience, and (most importantly) snacks. Someone who understands his past of not knonwing where his next meal is coming from. As such, we reccomend boundaries due to some meal time hoarding. If you`re someone who appreciates a dog with quirks, character, and personality but also enjoy going for walks with a loyal companion, this may just be your guy! He looks forward to stealing your spot on the couch, watching TV with you, and being close to his person. His love language is food… heavy emphasis on the food.Grayson is mostly house-trained, though like many dogs coming from a shelter life, he’ll benefit from a refresher once he settles into a new home and learns the routine. Grayson will surely become your shadow, following you from room to room, happily working for treats.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Goose is a charming 10-month-old (estimated) pup who is looking for a family to help his personality truly take flight! He was found as a local stray alongside his wingman, Maverick. Both boys arrived at the shelter quite thin and in need of some extra nutrition and care for their coats. However, this resilient young boy has made incredible strides in his recovery; as he’s already filling out and is getting ready to search for a cozy home to call his own. At just under a year old, he still has the puppy curiosity and a heart full of potential. While Goose can be a bit timid in unfamiliar settings or when meeting new faces, don't let his initial shyness fool you. Once he feels safe, he reveals a genuine zest for life and a goofy, affectionate side that will melt your heart. While we are still getting to know him, he hasn't shown negative behaviors toward other dogs, so we are excited to begin more formal introductions with other potential canine companions soon. We also plan to see how he feels about feline friends in the near future. We eventually did make contact with Goose's previous owner, who is not able to provide for him, and will not be reclaiming Goose. We also learned that Goose's father is Maverick, who is an American Bulldog and the mother is reportedly a Cane Corso Italian Mastiff.  Please submit an online adoption application for Goose if you're interested in setting up an appointment time to meet him.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 22, 2026, 8:03 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Maverick is a handsome, 3-year-old dog who is officially ready to find his co-pilot for life! He arrived at the shelter as a local stray alongside his friend, Goose. They both arrived thin, hungry, and in need of some coat conditioning, but Maverick has proven to be a resilient soul. After some much-needed TLC, he has blossomed into a healthy, happy boy whose coat is finally regaining its shine. He has moved past his days of wandering and is now looking for a soft place to land and a family to call his own. True to his name, Maverick has a 'cool under pressure' personality. He is easy-going and seems to take every new situation in stride, making him a joy to be around. While we are still getting to know him, he hasn't shown negative behaviors toward other dogs, so we are excited to begin more formal introductions with other potential canine companions soon. We also plan to see how he feels about feline friends in the near future. We eventually did make contact with his previous owner, who is not able to provide for Maverick and will not be reclaiming their dogs.  We also learned that Maverick is the father of Goose, and is an American Bulldog. If you are looking for a steady and sweet companion to join your crew, Maverick will soon be cleared for takeoff! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Courtesy ListingIntroducing Winston! Not much is known about Winston's past, and he's chosen to keep it that way - so he remains a bit of a mystery. What we do know is that he's a charming, distinguished older gentleman with a big personality packed into a compact frame. If you love the classic English Bulldog attitude but prefer it in a smaller size, Winston could be your perfect match. At just 46 Ibs, he's a pint sized bulldog with a whole lot of character! Winston could be best described as a man-child who refuses to grow up. He approaches life with enthusiasm and curiosity, especially when it comes to investigating his surroundings (and occasionally rearranging them.) If you enjoy an active, entertaining companion who keeps things interesting, Winston will happily oblige.  He has strong opinions about dog beds - mostly that they're unnecessary - and prefers his space to be just the way he likes it. He's also very passionate about games and likes to play by his own rules. When things don't go his way... be prepared for a "mantrum!"  Winston would do best in a home without cats and prefers calm, easygoing dogs who respect his boundaries as he likes to be the one in charge. Because of his enthusiasm and strength, Winston would be best suited for a home with older children (12+) who understand how to give him space and interact respectfully. If you're looking for a fun, confident companion with a big personality and a sense of humor, Winston may be just the dog you've been waiting for. He's not perfect - but he's perfectly Winston.  Winston's adoption fee is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives, plus a free basic training course at Cedar Run #2 in Hiawatha. Winston is seeking an indoor only home with adopters that have a history of having kept their pets altered, indoors, and current on wellness exams, vaccinations, and preventative care. If you would like to meet Winston, please submit an adoption application on our website, Adopthope.org. Our adoption process includes a background check, vet history check, and a home visit.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.January 16, 2026, 2:23 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Atlas is ready to be the king of your world! This handsome bridle boy is happiest when he's running and playing fetch.  Atlas is well trained and knows how to sit, shake, stay, lay down, wait, come, leave it and get up. Atlas is also muzzle trained, he prefers to wear this when meeting strangers or doing scary things like visiting the vet's office.  Atlas would thrive in an active home with adults only who are dog savvy and maintain a relatively quiet home life. We don't know all of his background, but we know that strangers in the home are scary to Atlas and he isn't sure if he's supposed to protect you from them or not!  Atlas loves to play, so another playful dog in the home would make for a perfect match! Atlas is kennel and potty trained, and also loves to give kisses. A 4-6 foot high fenced in yard would be a dream come true for ol' Atlas, here he could run and play to his hearts content and maybe learn some more impressive commands with a little help from his new family. If you are interested in learning more about Atlas please complete an adoption application for consideration at www.AdoptHope.org.  The adoption fee for Atlas is $250 and includes his neuter, microchip, current vaccinations and preventatives as well as a FREE obedience class through Cedar Run in Hiawatha.  Our adoption process includes reference and background checks, a vet check and home visit.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 6:20 pm
