Story
Meet Wilbur : The Goofy Gentle Giant Ready to Steal Your Heart! Wilbur is a Miami-Dade Animal Services (MDAS) foster survivor who’s finally getting his chance to shine. This handsome American Bulldog is 70 pounds of love, laughter, and loyalty. His one true wish? To be your best friend and shadow — you’re the center of his world. Wilbur has a big personality and an even bigger heart. He’s goofy, affectionate, and a total ham for belly rubs. He loves his lick mats, tries to rule the roost (with charm, of course), and will keep you smiling with his silly antics. Thanks to the care of his incredible foster mom, Wilbur has blossomed, day by day shedding the stress of his long shelter stay and revealing the sweet, soulful pup he truly is. Bonus: Wilbur comes with FREE professional obedience training! We want to make sure this big boy has the best manners to match his big heart. The training is offered for the south florida area only.  Ideal home: Another dog his size (he plays best with similar-sized pals) No cats, please Kids over 13 years old House preferred for space A yard for playing!  Wilbur is ready to love hard and live happy. Could your home be the one he’s been waiting for? The BasicsAge: estimated 7-8 years oldWeight: 70Spayed/Neutered: YesMicrochipped: YesVaccines Up-to-Date: YesOn Heartworm Prevention: YesOn Flea/Tick Prevention: yesHouse-Trained: yes, wilbur loves 1-2 longer walks per day, truly enjoys his time outside, hes walked 3x per day Crate-Trained: yes wilbur is very comfortable in his crate, he is crated overnight and does go to nap in his crate and play with his toysLeash Skills: wilbur is currently walking very well with a gentle lead, this could shift with trainingMedical: (If nothing special to note, this line can be deleted.) Wilbur as most bigger breeds has arthritis and hip dysplasia managed by medication, supplements  and CBD administration,   Likes/Dislikes: Wilbur may be a total attention-seeker, but he’s also learned how to chill. Whether he’s lounging on the couch or relaxing in his own space, he’s happy to simply be near his people while they go about their day. He’s a joyful, curious pup who loves his toys — especially lick mats, Benebones, Kongs, and puzzle treat games that make him think. His brain loves a challenge, and his heart loves a good cuddle. Since leaving the shelter, Wilbur has made huge strides. He’s thriving in a home environment and has settled into a routine with his foster mom that gives him structure and comfort. Any transition will be  stressful for him, so we recommend keeping a similar routine in place and using his crate as a safe, calming space during the adjustment period. Wilbur was a tester dog at the shelter and is very neutral, he currently lives with a Boston terrier and they have no issues hangin out, just make sure slow intros are adhered too  Patience, love, and belly rubs will go a long way — and Wilbur will reward you with loyal companionship and his signature goofy grin. Wilbur will need time to destress with his transition, and alot of patience. Wilbur does tend to jump up (training should cure this behavior) and Wilbur does want to single handily rid any neighborhood of their ducks or chickens.    Toys: puzzles, kongs, benebones, rope toys, lick matsOther Animals: preferred only dog, or similar dog sizePeople/Kids: loves people, and any attention from visitors, we recommend a slow intro Car Rides: gets excited, needs to be cratedSeparation: totally happy in his crate, must be crated when humans are not home!  Contact/Application Info coco and Tubbs Rescue Questions? Story
Almost Home believes that every animal deserves a loving home regardless of appearance, age, or physical limitation.  We have come together to give animals in need the safe and happy life they all deserve.  Almost Home Animal Rescue believes that no animal is expendable.  Adopting a friend:The animals, lucky enough to find refuge with Almost Home, are all in loving foster homes. If you are interested in the possibility of giving one of the animals a new lease on life, please contact us. The contact information is listed at the end of each biography.  What you need to do to adopt:If you would like to adopt a pet in need from Almost Home, basically, an application must be filled out. We will check two personal references and a vet reference. If you are approved for adoption, there is a trial period of about one week to make sure this is the animal for you and you are the person for the animal. Along with the trial period, a contract must be signed that basically states that if ever you cannot keep the animal that you must return the animal to Almost Home. Last but not least, a home check will be done. Meet & Greets:An approved application is required. This does not mean that you have to adopt but that you are approved to do so if everything works out. Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  *Due to rescuer being very ill, all her dogs are in desperate need!!!   Meatball puts the M in front of HUNK! This big ball of bulldog love is ready to plow right into your couch (and your heart). Meatball loves to flop around in the water and bask in the morning sun. He sticks to his routine and struts his stuff on the way out the door with more personality than you’ve seen in most people! Meatball found himself in a new exciting place when his owner needed a dog sitter while going out of town but he loved watching the pigs and splashing in the puddles at the ranch so much he couldn’t be convinced to leave! He loves everybody but does enjoy leaning on and hugging his pals, so he would do best in a home that doesn’t have small children or older family members. Meatball is just an all around happy guy that is searching for his forever. A good balance between quiet couch potato-ing and long walks with a harness and some guidance (or anything to splash around in) is all you need to keep this Meatball happy! *Guest Posting If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org or 865-236-0830. To fill out an application, go to www.almosthometn.org. If you can't get it to work, let us know and we will send it to you in a different format. Adoption fee $150.ADOPTION FEE: The adoption fee for a cat is $85. The adoption fee for a kitten is $100. The adoption fee does include the kittens being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. The adoption fee for a dog is $200. The adoption fee for a puppy is $250. The adoption fee does include the puppies being fixed and their rabies shot when they are old enough through one of our local vets. Mature pet adoption fees are sometimes reduced. The adoption fee for pure bred dogs and cats will vary due to health and age of pet. This helps support our ill animals and our mutts that get left in the system longer. We do reserve the right to change the fees higher or lower due to the circumstance of the animal but what was stated above are the usual adoption fees.  Microchipped pets will have a higher adoption fee.  Our adoption fees do not cover the cost of the vetting and care the animal has received with us and if it ever does, the money just goes back it to helping other animals in need. November 1, 2024, 8:13 pm

Since we are foster based, this limits the amount of people coming to our homes.  Hi there… I’m Duchess. And I’ve got a story to tell you. One I hope ends with you. You see, not too long ago, I didn’t even have a name. I was just another face in an overcrowded shelter, a place so full that hope had to squeeze in the corners just to breathe. I did my best to be brave, but day after day the noise, the cold floors, and the sadness started to chip away at me. I stopped eating. I stopped wagging. I stopped believing. But then she walked in. A kind lady. She didn’t look past me like the others. She saw how broken I felt and said softly, “You’re coming home with me.” And just like that… the world changed. Oh, what a difference love makes! I remembered how to smile, how to run, how to live. My coat shines now, my tail is always wagging, and my heart? It’s finally full… well, almost. You see, I’ve discovered how much I love people. I want my very own person—my own family—to cuddle with, to protect, to adore. I’m about four or five years old, with a beautiful mix of mystery and charm. I’ve become besties with the tiniest Chihuahua you’ve ever seen (don’t let her size fool you, she’s got sass!). My foster family think I will do well with cats to because of how well and how much I love the Chihuahua. And there’s a big ol’ male dog here too—I let him think he’s in charge, but we both know who runs the show. (Hi, it’s me. Duchess.) I’d love a fenced-in yard to zoom around in and a family who enjoys being active, just like I do. I can sit like a lady and give you my paw—I mean, come on, how do you resist that? I’m crate trained, but honestly, I’m such a good girl I don’t need one. I’ll just curl up by your feet or stretch out like royalty on a comfy bed. Also... I might be the world’s most talented beggar. One tilt of my head, a soft nudge of my paw, and suddenly you’re handing me snacks you swore you wouldn’t share. I can’t help it. It’s the eyes. So here I am—flourished, hopeful, and more than ready. I’ve survived the worst and bloomed into something beautiful. All I need now... is you. Will you be my forever? With all my love and paw-sitivity,Duchess *Guest Posting* If you would like to meet your new best friend, contact the Adoption Coordinator at info@almosthometn.org. Story
Meet Suki, an adorable 4-year-old American Bulldog mix, who cannot wait to show her forever family endless love! Before Suki came to us, she was a scared stray in need of love, but just not sure how to trust. She would run from people and hide away until nighttime. Soon enough, she started to come around to the families in the area where she was staying. They would leave food out for her and talk to her from a distance to gain her trust. Once sweet Suki realized she was safe, she became a completely different girl! Suki now loves all the attention and will not let you walk past her without giving her belly rubs. She gets along great with everyone, even the residents at the shelter! She especially loves MoMo, who is showing her the ropes of the shelter and being an amazing friend. Suki loves to cuddle and go on walks, even though she stops to get love from everyone she meets! She is a very gentle girl and does great around kids and other animals.  Suki has one of the biggest hearts you will ever meet, and she cannot wait to share that love with her future family.
