Story
Jack is a handsome 12-year old male Bulldog who was surrendered by his original owner on August 2, 2023 because he/she was unable to contain him. Jack has a tan-and-white short smooth coat, a tiny docked tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked face with black shading around his eyes, a black button nose on his cute muzzle, and short floppy ears. His original owner told us that Jack was good with other dogs, but we've learned that he is selective about the dogs he gets along with. Jack does NOT do well with cats and should not be placed in a home with cats or where he would have any contact with them. Jack has had encounters in the past which did not end well for the cat(s). Jack loves his people friends and would love to find a home where he could be an 'only child'. Jack has been kept indoors and is house-trained. This sweet guy defies his chronological age and he obviously believes that 'age is just a number' .. Jack was full of playful energy when HSOV Kennel Tech Rachel Elizabeth accompanied him for updated photos on April 1st 2024. Jack loved attention from Rachel while showing off his personality and physique. Jack weighs 60 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash. Jack has already been neutered, so he could leave our shelter immediately with an approved HSOV adoption application. He could also be fostered with an approved HSOV Adoption/Foster application. Update: Jack was adopted on July 5, 2024 but came back to our shelter in mid-August 2024 since he did not get along with the family's dog. Jack is now a 14-year old 'senior citizen'. Jack would love to find a home with someone special where he could spend his golden years as an 'only child'. Jack went home with a foster family on August 16, 2025 so that he could enjoy a real home environment instead of spending his days/nights alone in a small shelter kennel. Jack is still available for adoption and would love to find a forever home where he could spend his golden years being spoiled 24/7 by a special someone.

Story
Bark Twain is a handsome adult male American Bulldog mix (perhaps 2-years old) who was brought to the HSOV on April 23, 2026 by the Washington County Ohio Dog Warden who had picked him up on Walnut Street in Belpre Ohio. Bark Twain was wearing a collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. This magnificent boy has a white shorthaired coat with patches of black/charcoal on his back/left side and at the base of his long tail. Bark Twain has an adorable face with a black/charcoal patch around his left eye, a blue/charcoal button nose, and short floppy ears. These photos of Bark Twain were taken on April 24, 2026 when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard spent time with him in the green grassy area where most our outdoor pictures are taken. Bark Twain was a good sport about wearing a red/black/white bandana which featured a 'checkered race flag' pattern which showed off his white coat nicely. This big boy was a pushover for attention from Jennie, and he 'perked up' for his best poses (and smiles) when he saw another dog (Ares) in the distance who was waiting his turn with the paparazzi. Bark Twain is a fairly big boy when you see him in person. He has not yet stepped on our scales for his official weigh-in, but he likely weighs 70-75 lbs. Bark Twain is very energetic/strong on a leash. Bark Twain has already been neutered. This big boy was literally crying when he was first brought to our shelter and placed in a holding kennel in our Receiving Area. He surely was missing his family and couldn't understand why he was 'behind bars' in an unfamiliar place. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bark Twain will be held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.
