You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Lucy, a one-year-old girl who is the perfect size at a sturdy and manageable 36 lbs. With a unique heritage—her father was an American Eskimo and Great Pyrenees blend, while her mother was a Pit Bull—Lucy is a beautiful mix of intelligence, loyalty, and charm. Lucy came to us from a home where she lived with other dogs, but her previous family realized they could no longer meet her needs and made the decision to ensure she found a home that could give her the life she deserves. Because of her transition, Lucy is a sensitive soul who takes a little bit of time to warm up to new people and unfamiliar surroundings. She isn't the type to jump into a stranger's arms immediately, but for the patient owner, the reward of her trust is well worth the wait. She is looking for a dedicated family committed to her ongoing socialization and willing to help her master her house-training skills. With a consistent routine and a gentle hand, Lucy’s confidence is sure to blossom. If you're interested in meeting Lucy, please submit an online adoption application!   Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 12, 2026, 5:07 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Meet Birch, a handsome young fella who is ready to find a family to grow up with! At around just 5 months old and weighing in at 21 lbs, Birch is a slightly smaller but equally charming version of his sibling Olive. He shares the same unique heritage, with a father who was an American Eskimo and Great Pyrenees blend and a mother who was a Pit Bull mix, resulting in a one-of-a-kind boy with a heart of gold. Being a young pup, Birch is looking for a family that is ready to embrace all the excitement and responsibility that comes with raising a puppy. He is incredibly lovable and sweet, though he does take a moment to find his courage when meeting new people or exploring unfamiliar spots. He will thrive in a home committed to his continued socialization and house training, helping him build the confidence he needs to navigate the world as a well-adjusted adult. Birch has been brought up to date on all his vaccinations and was neutered on April 22nd. At this vet appointment it was found that Birch does have a serious dental concern - it appears that as his permanent adult teeth were forming, the enamel on the teeth never formed.  This is a relatuv rare occurrence which can be caused by several different things, including maternal illness during his mom's pregnancy, or if he had certain diseases or infections during his early life. Enamel is necessary to protect teeth from damage, bacteria and plaque buildup, and without enamel his teeth are eventually likely to be soft and exposed to infection.  Safe Haven tried to reach out to a dental specialist for a consult appointment at Iowa State University Vet Medical Hospital - however they are scheduling right now for January 2027 - so Birch's adopter will need to be prepared for likely dental issues, including extractions as needed. This may be an expensive undertaking that adopters will need to take into consideration if they are adopting Birch, but he will repay some lucky adopter with years of commitment and companionship! While we know he is surely worth it - this medical concern needs to be kept in mind when considering adopting Birch to make sure his adopter can financially plan for this care and expected expense down the road.  If you have the time and love to dedicate to this sweet boy’s journey, and are able to meet his medidal needs - please submit an online adoption application today to meet Birch!Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 12, 2026, 5:07 pm
